Mike Tarantino's Toy Soldier Collection (2 Viewers)

This is the only set I have in my collection from Bolivia, it is Hiriart set No. 1287 REGIMIENTO de INFANTERIA N. 1 "COLORADOS," BOLIVIA. It is also the only Bolivian set in Hiriart's catalog.
I think this a very handsome set. The red and tan uniforms work well. -- Al

Thanks Al, I agree that it is an interesting color combination. I also like the tri-colored pompoms on their kepis.

I have two Hiriart sets from Chile in my collection plus four more that are on order for this year. I therefore have more sets from Chile than any other Latin American country; Argentina is next with five sets. However, Hiriart has just added a new Argentine set to its catalog, 1361 ARTILLEROS de IRIARTE, ARGENTINA, which I will add to a future order.

This is Hiriart's set No. 1062 REGIMIENTO CAUPOLICAN, CHILE which is a smart looking infantry regiment in their white tunics and grey stahlhelms and pants

I forgot to mention those poms. The dash of yellow and green really sets the unis off. ^&cool -- Al

This is a stock photo of my Hiriart set No. 1096 CARABINEROS, CHILE. The Chilean carabineros are a paramilitary police force similar to the Italian carabinieri, Spanish Guardia Civil, or French gendarmeres.

The first of the four Chilean Hiriart sets I have on order this year is set No. 1132 FUERZA AREA BANDA, CHILE which is, of course, a Chilean Air Force band.

Also on this year's Hiriart order is set No. 1071 REGIMIENTO LANCEROS, CHILE. They are wearing the same uniforms as the Caupolican Regiment in post #923, but with red stripes on their pants and different color collar tabs.

The third Chilean set that I have on order this year is set No. 1103 ESCUELA MILITAR BERNADO O'HIGGINS, CHILE. You may have noticed the strong Prussian and later German influence in Chilean uniforms.

Much better looking mountain screw gun than the WB version . . .

Bosun Al

It's a mountain gun but not a screw gun. The "screw gun" was so named because the barrel and breach were carried seperately and then screwed together.

The fourth and final Hiriart Chilean set that I have on order this year is set No. 1191 ESCUELA NAVAL ARTURO PRAT, CHILE. It comes with an officer, Chilean national flag bearer, 2 escorts with swords, and five cadets with rifles. I ordered one extra cadet rifleman so it can be displayed 1 x 3 x 3 x 3.

I currently don't have any sets from Columbia in my collection, but I do have two sets on order this year. The first is a marching version of Hiriart catalog set No. 1102 ACADEMIA MILITAR, COLUMBIA. The regular catalog set has them at present arms.

The second set on order is Hiriart set No. 1288 ESCOLTA PRESIDENCIAL, COLUMBIA. They certainly look like Prussians except for the Columbian national flag.

The South American countries certainly had a fine collection of colourful uniforms, you have some great looking figures in your collection Mike.

Thanks Jeff, I am glad you like them. The uniforms are colorful and sometimes, very unique to the region.

This is stock photo of Hiriart set No. 1275 ESCUELA MILITAR ELOY ALFARO, ECUADOR. My actual set is comprised slightly differently with an officer with black plume, two flag bearers with black plumes (national flag and academy flag), two escorts with yellow plumes, and eight men with white plumes. It can be displayed 1 x 4 x 4 x 4. This is the only set from Ecuador in Hiriart's catalog.

Very handsome uniforms. The gray, black, and yellow work very well together. Nice sets. -- Al

These are really nice looking uniforms, as well. The gray and red are sharp looking in combination. I really like all these Central and South American uniform color combinations. They show some impressive originality. -- Al
