Geez. Mike, with all those troops you better build an addition to the hose so the family can squeeze in! Keep both the collection and the showing thereof going . . .

Well Al, actually, I don't need an addition to the house since Jean and I live in a house with more than 3,000 square feet. What I need is more than one 400 square foot, former bedroom, to display them in. However, that is not going to happen. You can tell who wears the pants in this marriage.

These are Frontline's FRENCH ARMY Dutch Grenadiers sets FDG.2 six Column attack; FDG.4 Officer Emperor's Colours and NCO; and FDG.2 Officer and Drummer. The NCO is missing from this photo because I accidently put him with the Westphalian grenadiers---I subsequently moved him to his correct place.

Front row Frontline's WESTPHALIAN ARMY 1st Regiment, Center Company, sets WLI.2 six column attack; WLI.4 Officer Emperor's Colours and NCO; and WLI.5 Officer and Drummer. Top row WESTPHALIAN ARMY 1st Regiment, Grenadier Company, sets WLG.5 six advancing and WLG.4 Officer and Drummer. The NCO next to the drummer on the top row is the misplaced Dutch Grenadier. You can also see that he has been damaged during the earthquake and no longer stands straight up. I have bent him and others similarly damaged back to as vertical as possible without breaking them off at their bases. Also, the Frontline catalog set description says Emperor's colours, but I believe it should be more actually described as Regimental colours.

Frontline's SWISS ARMY 3rd Regiment, Grenadier Company, sets SFG.5 six advancing and SFG.4 Officer and Drummer. There are no center company sets in the Frontline catalog; that's too bad, I would have liked to have had them in their red coats and shakos.

These are Frontline's BRITISH ARMY 1st Battalion, 42nd Regiment Black Watch Royal Highlanders. My original intention was to include the Black Watch sets on my table top Napoleonic display, but I didn't have enough room for them, so I put them with the "other European nations" sets in the curio that I have been posting here. The Scots were well represented on the table top display, in any case, with the 92nd Regiment Gordon Highlanders and the 71st Regiment Glasgow Highland Light Infantry.

I always thought that the eyes on some of these highlanders looked a little cross eyed, but on display are sets NBW.10 six advancing; NBW.5 Officer with King's Colour and NCO; NBW.6 Officer with Regimental Colour and NCO; and NBW.6 Mounted Officer.

I meant to take notice in the previous post about how good the Frontline King's and Regimental British Army flags are. However, they are quite heavy and some (e.g., the Gordon Higlanders flag pole broke off at the flag attachment point) were damaged in the earthquake, but repaired. Some of the other European nations' flags are fairly small by comparison.

Did Hiriart ever do a set of the Russian Preobrazhensky Regiment?

Did Hiriart ever do a set of the Russian Preobrazhensky Regiment?

Hi Zach,

No, they never have. However, I am currently ordering a series of Imperial Russian cavalry for Bob Walker and me. We have received the Grodno Hussars so far and will be getting the Life Guards this year. In future years, the Dragoons, the Grenadiers a Cheval, and 15th Hussars are to follow. Frontline Figures made a series of Preobrazhensy sets as a part of their retired glossy Parade Dress series. There were several sets offered on June's Old Toy Soldier Auction. I have the color party in my collection which I believe I posted here in the past.

This is Frontline's BRITISH ARMY 95th Rifle Brigade sets 95RB.2 six marching at the trail and 95RB.5 Officer, NCO, and Bugler. On my table top diorama I also have (not shown) set 95RB.1 three kneeling firing and three kneeling loading.

In post #1058, I partially showed, from the heads up, a grouping of Frontline's BAVARIAN ARMY 3rd Regiment, Prince Charles, Center Company. Here is a better photo of these sets: BNI.2 six marching, BNI.4 Officer Regimental Colour and NCO, and BNI.5 Officer and Drummer. The second photo is a close up of their flag.

This is the only set I have from Langley Models, The Boy's of the Old Brigade. It is a Royal Navy Landing Party pulling an artillery piece. Several other manufacturers have made versions of this set.

In this month's shipment from Uruguay, I received 11 new Hiriart sets for my collection. The first is a non-catalog set of JAPANESE IMPERIAL GUARDS, 1904.

Another new Hiriart set I received this month is a variation on set 1156 FRENCH CHASSEURS ALPINS, mountain infantry. I ordered them with skis and dark pants rather than the catalog version without skis and wearing white pants. I also ordered two extra men, not shown. I also particularly like the French alpine horn.

Another new addition to my collection is Hiriart set 1342 L'EQUIPE des MULES, LEGION ETRANGERE FRANCAISE.

Mike . . . . What era are these figures? They're a nice set and I may want to replicate them.

Hi Al,

They are circa 1900. I'll attach a couple of color plates for you.
