Mike Tarantino's Toy Soldier Collection (4 Viewers)

Hi Mike,

Very cool addition to your collection. I really enjoy the Kober figures I have in my collection.

Thanks for sharing

Dave

Hi mike,
I saw these and thought them very interesting, so what's the back ground on the Mfg. and what do they cover?
Ray

Hi Ray,

I started a Josef Kober thread a couple of years ago under More Glossy Manufactures, which thanks to Brad James and Bob Hume, answers a lot of the questions you may have. Please take a look at it when you get a chance.

Mike

Those sets caught my eye as well, but didn't bid as they don't fit into my rather narrow period of interest (WW1). Glad you picked them up. I did manage to snag the Frontline Austrian sets thus filling a void. Wonder who got all those nice Bastion sets? Would've loved to pick up a few of those. Am now trying to redo some poorly painted. ripoff Bastion AH sailors sold on eBay as the original thing. Fie on the seller!

Bosun Al

Hi Al,

I also bid on the Frontline sets, but I already had four A-H sets, so I was just going to have a larger display group if I had won. Glad you were able to pick them up. There were two bidders, neither of whom I know, who were using a snipe app who aced me out every time on the Bastion sets. Interestingly, these were only six-figure sets in green boxes rather than eight-figure sets in maroon boxes like I have in my collection. Some of those six-figure sets went for $137.50, $133.50, and $127.51. FYI: I will be bringing more than a dozen eight-figure Bastion sets to the West Coaster to sell (all duplicates in my collection) at $125 each.

Hi Dave,

Thanks again for the Josef Kober catalog. This will be the first Kober set in my collection, since I ultimately gave the first set I bought a couple of years ago to Bob W. on his birthday. I will post photos of the other two Kober sets I won on this thread and the ones I didn't win on the Kober thread mentioned above when I get a chance to copy, paste, and reduce the size of the photos. The Kober set 2504 KAISERJAEGER lists for 139 Euros (about $167) in the catalog; I was able to pick it up for the bargain price of $62.65.

This is Josef Kober set 2504 JAEGERTRUPPEN "TIROLER KAISERJAEGER" IM GEFECHT which includes offizier, fahne, trumpeter und 17 mann. Boy, my college German professor would be proud of me, but I must give credit to Dave D. who kindly sent me a 2012/2013 Kober Zinnfiguren Katalog where I found all this German.

Nice figures indeed, love them too - congrats {sm4}{sm4}{sm4}
Thanks for showing and ... - well you know
Kind Regards
Wolfgang

This is Josef Kober set 2030A UNGARISCHE INFANERIE IN PARADE which has offizier zu pferd, offizier, fahne, trumpeter, trommler und 10 mann. It lists for 110 Euros (about $132) and I got it for $90. All the Josef Kober sets come in small, clear plastic boxes.

The third Josef Kober set I won is 2625 ITALIEN INFANTERIE which I cannot find anywhere in the catalog. I was able to pick them up for $65.66. I suspect that the list price is similar to the JAEGERTRUPPEN or 139 Euros ($167). In any case, it is another interesting set.

I received three Bastion Models sets today from Australia; all are various Austro-Hungarian units. The first set is A.48 BOSNIAN INFANTRY, 1910. Ironically, I had this set in my collection until about five years ago until I sold it at the West Coaster. I paid about twice as much for it as I received when I sold it. This isn't the first time I have done this and I am sure it won't be the last. Oh, well.

Minor correction: on the previous post I should have said shipped on January 15th and received on January 23rd.

Another Hiriart set that I received on the 23rd was 1218 BATALLON FLORIDA de INFANTERIA No 1, URUGUAY. The photos are of Fred's standard catalog set; mine has two extra men not shown. I received ten sets on this order representing Latin American countries, including sets from Paraguay, Columbia, and Venezuela which represent the first in my collection from these three countries.

This is a new stock photo of a Hiriart non-catalog band set that I received on the 23rd which was based on catalog set 1045 WAFFEN-SS. When I photograph the tied in set as received, I'll post it here.

Although I am not a fan of the anti-American, authoritarian, radical socialist Maduros government in Venezuela, set 1295 ACADEMIA MILITAR SIMON BOLIVAR, VENEZUELA is a great looking set. As I mentioned before, this is the first set of toy soldiers that I have from Venezuela in my collection.

This is my first set of Columbian toy soldiers: Hiriart set 1102 ACADEMIA MILITAR, GENERAL JOSE MARIA CORDOVA, COLUMBIA. This is a special variation of the catalog set with the figures marching rather than standing. The Germans must have had quite a few military missions in South America. The Chilean, Venezuelan, and Columbian uniforms, in particular, are almost exact copies, style-wise, of 19th century German uniforms.

This is Hiriart catalog set 1288 GUARDIA PRESIDENCIAL, BATALLON de INFANTERIA No. 37, COLUMBIA. All of the Central and South American sets I have been posting here also come with corresponding non-catalog, 19 figure band sets. I have several of these bands in my collection, but Bob W. pretty much has all of them.

This Hiriart order included five double sets for my collection: two artillery gun teams and three bands. I previously posted photos of the non-catalog WAFFEN-SS BAND. This is catalog set 1021 RED DEVILS MUSICAL BAND.

This is Hiriart catalog set 1191 ESCUELA NAVAL ARTURO PRAT, CHILE which I ordered with one extra man. The school's coat-of-arms shows it was established in 1818. On January 23rd, at Bob W's house, we watched a U-Tube video of a Chilean Military Parade which had this naval school and the army and air force academies goose-step marching on parade to the music from their respective bands. There were other units of the Chilean armed forces, too, including infantry and lancers.

This is Hiriart set 1008 REGIMIENTO CABALARIA No 4, ACA CARAYA LANCEROS, PARAGUAY. If the name doesn't seem like it is in Spanish, it is because it is an indigenous Indian dialect instead. This is the only set in Hiriart's catalog representing Paraguay and is also my first set from this country.
