Mounted Winston Churchill and Attacking Dervish (1 Viewer)

Two years ago at the Chicago Show Toy Soldier and Model figure magazine was selling the Trophy mounted Churchill for twenty dollars at the show. No dervish figure but I did get the mounted Churchill. I don't know if they still have any figures left. They used it for people who signed up for the magazine. Leadmen

Lance, plan on $150-175, as an avid collector of trophy i feel this is the going price unless you hit an auction on ebay that ends at an odd time and has somehow slipped thru the cracks which is rare. Good luck

Trophy is hot, no doubt about it, but there are deals to be had and this does show up, mainly the Trophy Model Figure special.

Did anyone catch the Dr. Watson wounded on Horseback Afghan Special figure this month on ebay, over 500 British Pounds, wowee!

Again, it all depends on who is bidding.

Gentlemen - thank you for the posts. This is a great forum.

Tom, I saw Dr. Watson, very nice, but very expensive. Any particular reason that it went for so much?

Thanks

Hi Lance,

Your thread has come "full circle".

When it comes to the winning bids for Trophy sets, the sky is no limit.

The brand Trophy of Wales commands a certain premium value as reflected in the increasing costs of most sets.

The bid levels can just go way out of sight. You may see all good sense and prudence just cast to the wind:confused:.

Certain popular Trophy sets trigger an early bidding frenzy, especially among the newbies to eBay.

The more experienced Trophy bidders "go for the jugular" very late or just simply sit back and watch the show;).

Bottom Line: When bidding on Trophy sets, be prepared to dig deep into your wallet.

Best, Raymond:).

As can be attested by this auction for Lt. Chardhttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=190283206389
$75 for one figure? I bid $45 and I thought that was a lot!

Mike,

As Tom has written, it also depends on who is bidding;).

Raymond:)

Could some-one post a link to the Dr Watson auction please. I cannot find it.

Thanks for the link Mike
It is a nice looking set.
I doubt if I would have paid that for it.
Trophy really needs a decent book.
I wonder if Norman Joplin or Mr Hillstead would be interested

Damian,
Agreed wholeheartedly...What did you find out a while ago on the Taylors(alive, dead, another industry, retired?) They or Maison Militaire:( might be able to help catalog. I wish I had the time and resources, I'd help .
Mike

Tom,
I didn't know there were only nine of those made...$500. It's becoming like art dealing:eek:
Mike

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the link.

I had to see this for myself to believe.

The hefty winning bid price may be because only 9 sets were made.

Any idea of other Trophy sets in the "Holy Grail" category?

Best, Raymond.

I’m not so sure this was a Trophy collector who won this.

The Ebay members ID (sherlockcollector) indicates he is a collector of Sherlock Holmes related memorabilia

Or as Sherlock might have said “It's elementary, my dear Watson.”

Cheers

Martyn:)

hi martyn, ken jackson did not happen to mention anything about the napoleonic range did he? i guess one might be able to special order a set if the order was big enough. say 20 sets of wa18 french imperial garde advancing. was not that the way len did things? maybe you could post the contact information that you used to contact ken. thanks

Hi HAWKEYE

He didn't mention the napoleonics only AZW, WW1 and Civilians

Here is the link I found the phone number on

http://www.maisonmilitaire.com/Index.htm

The number I spoke to him on is (UK number 01723864453)

Hope this helps

Well, I am a Sherlock afficionado myself and I have run in to this gentleman on other figures/Royal Doulton, etc and I am 0 for ......5. He has deeper pockets than me I am sad to say. Funny thing is, it is better to get him out of the way, I have been able to accumulate most items once he has his!!!!

TD

PS, agree on Zulu War, jeez I tried on the Drift enough times I think I am content with all Britains and my full Imperial set. I give up on the Trophy version. I think I might actually ebay some of those hand to hand sets although somehow selling a Trophy set when not a duplicate can bring a grown man to tears.

Tom,
Nothing wrong with a little 501.3c Charity. It'll make you feel better. I'll PM you with my address...I'll pay for shipping!:D
