THE MOVIE CRITIC---Quentin Tarantino commented on the movie critic that inspired his upcoming movie after denying it was Pauline Kael, “He wrote about mainstream movies and he was the second-string critic. I think he was a very good critic. He was as cynical as hell.
His reviews were a cross between early Howard Stern and what Travis Bickle [Robert DeNiro’s character in TAXI DRIVER] might be if he were a film critic. Think about Travis’s diary entries. But the porno rag critic was very, very funny. He was very rude, you know. He cursed. He used racial slurs. But his s— was really funny. He was as rude as hell.
He wrote like he was 55, but he was only in his early to mid-30s. He died in his late thirties. It wasn’t clear for a while, but now I’ve done some more research, and I think it was it was complications due to alcoholism.”

TERMINATOR 7---James Cameron said he is working on a possible reboot of the movie franchise, “In discussion, but nothing has been decided...If I were to do another TERMINATOR film and maybe try and to launch that franchise again … I would make it much more about the AI side of it than bad robots gone crazy.”

But I think, honestly, we have been talking about an idea. I had one and I still have one that we've literally just recently started talking about."

FAST AND FURIOUS---Ludacris commented on critics who question why the franchise continues on, "That's the dumbest f*cking question in the world. I'm going to tell you why. Because no matter what industry we're in; podcasts, music, movies - it's all about a bottom line. It's all about how much you spend compared to how much you make. We're making billions of f*cking dollars. Bro, and I'm saying that like, I'm giving you my heart. I'm not trying to brag or nothing. So when you say - when some of ya'll keep saying, 'Why the f*ck do ya'll keep shooting these movies?' Let me tell you why. 'Cause if you spend $200 million and you make a billion, who the f*ck is going to tell you to stop shooting the movies when you making 800 muthaf*ckin' million dollars. How?"

FAST-FURIOUS-1-FOTOR.jpg

CLIIFHANGER 2---director Ric Roman Waugh commented on the sequel to the 1993 Sylvester Stallone action movie, "Stallone’s character will be, of the age he is now – Gabe Walker – he’s got a daughter, he’s got an heir apparent, pseudo son, and they have a mountaineering company, Italian Alps. Tragedy strikes that’s very similar to what happened in the original movie, so the father and daughter have to deal with that and how to overcome tragedy.
[How do we get through traumatic experiences and fight to move forward? It’s what extreme sports like climbing are all about. And of course, there might be some nefarious bad guys that show up in the Italian Alps, and all hell breaks loose.”

HBO---HBO drama head Francesca Orsi commented on a possible THE LAST OF US Season 3 from showrunners Craig Mazan and Neil Druckman, "I think Craig and Neil are still figuring out where they’re going to come to an end. We have loosely heard that there will be a Season 3 idea for the series, but at this point, we’re taking it one season at a time. There’s no guarantee at this point that we’ll have a Season 3, but I know that they both have a vision for Season 3. Whether that lends itself to doing more [seasons], I don’t know yet.”
Orsi also commented on a possible SUCCESSION spinoff series, “No, not at this point now. I know there was some talk about spin-offs, but no, not at all.”

THE WITCHER---director Sophie Holland confirmed there will be a Season 5, “We’re just about to start filming on Season 4with Liam Hemsworth, and there will be a short gap, then we go straight into Season 5.”

Patton's favorite personal aid and was killed during a German air raid in North Africa. Patton said about Jenson's death, "Captain Jenson . . . had volunteered to go to the front as an additional officer in our tank force on the Gabes road. A heavy bomb landed almost at the edge of the one in which Jenson lay. He was killed instantly..."
Compton and Jenson were featured in two Hollywood hits. Compton was played by Neal McDonough in the Emmy Award-winning miniseries BAND OF BROTHERS. Jenson was played by Morgan Paull in the Academy Award-winning movie PATTON.

STAR WARS---Mark Hamill commented on if he might return as a Force ghost in the upcoming movie starring Daisy Ridley, “Everything is confidential. So, if I were involved, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. And if I were not involved, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. So, I don’t know. SUCCESSION.jpg

STREAMING PLATFORMS---Quentin Tarantino commented on movies that are made by streaming platforms, "I like the idea of giving it my all for 30 years and then saying, 'OK, that's enough.’ And I don't like working to diminishing returns. And I mean, now is a good time because I mean, what even is a motion picture anyway anymore? Is it just something that they show on Apple? That would be diminishing returns.
I mean, and I’m not picking on anybody, but apparently for Netflix, Ryan Reynolds has made $50 million on this movie and $50 million on that movie and $50 million on the next movie for them. I don’t know what any of those movies are. I’ve never seen them. Have you? I haven’t ever talked to Ryan Reynolds’ agent, but his agent is like, "Well, it cost $50 million." Well, good for him that he’s making so much money. But those movies don’t exist in the zeitgeist. It’s almost like they don’t even exist.”

QUENTIN-TARANTINO-FOTOR.jpg

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.---Chloe Bennet commented on rumors she is returning as Daisy Johnson in a new Marvel Studios project, "Of course. Of course, I would be open to it. Listen, there's a lot of stuff around that. I so deeply love S.H.I.E.L.D.'s fans because it's this tenacity that got the show on air to begin with. I have not once been approached or asked or involved in anything after I wrapped S.H.I.E.L.D. And I am not involved in anything that is coming out. I've not been asked, but I would be more than excited to put on the suit again. And, of course, of course, Daisy is a big part of who I am. So I would love to, but I have not been communicated [with] about it."

AGENTS-SHIELD-FOTOR.jpg

EXTRACTION---director Sam Hargrave said a third movie is being discussed, “We’re kind of waiting to see how the second movie is received. Fingers crossed, if people enjoy the second one, there already is – and this is without spoiling anything – but there is a story in development for a third movie in the works. What it is exactly, I can’t say right now, but I believe there is another adventure in the wind for Tyler Rake.”

THE EXPENDABLES 4---Arnold Schwarzenegger confirmed he is not returning for the latest sequel, “It’s done and I’m not in it." He added that he spoke to Sylvester Stallone about not returning, “I said, ‘You know what, we have done this and I’m out of it.’ And he really understood.”

BLADE RUNNER---Harrison Ford recently said Deckard really was a replicant, "I always knew that I was a replicant. I just wanted to push back against it though. I think a replicant would want to believe that they're human. At least this one did."

BEST SERVED COLD---Rebecca Ferguson is in talks to star as mercenary Monza Murcatto in the movie based on the FIRST LAW WORLD books.

THREAD: AN INSIDIOUS TALE---Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiami will star in this INSIDIOUS spinoff movie in which a couple use dark forces to travel back into time to save their daughter but with dire consequences.

LOST---Damon Lindelof commented on accusations of racism and a toxic work environment during the filming of LOST in the new book BURN IT DOWN, "My level of fundamental inexperience as a manager and a boss, my role as someone who was supposed to model a climate of creative danger and risk-taking but provide safety and comfort inside of the creative process – I failed in that endeavor.
I was like, OK, as long as there are one or two [writers] who don’t look and think exactly like me, then, then I’m OK. I came to learn that was even worse. For those specific individuals, forget about the ethics or the morality involved around that decision, but just talking about the human effect of being the only woman or the only person of color and how you are treated and othered — I was a part of that, a thousand percent.
The way that I conduct myself and the way that I treat other humans who I am responsible for and a manager of is a by-product of all the mistakes that were made… I have significantly evolved and grown, and it shouldn’t have had to come at the cost and the trauma of people that I hurt on LOST."

DEADPOOL 3---a source claims the sequel will have Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Storm (Halle Berry), Jean Grey (Famke Janssen), Cyclops (James Marsden) and an X-Men movie villain and a Marvel villain.

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET---Robert Englund said he will not return as Freddy Krueger because he is too old, “I know who icons are. I’m not an icon. Maybe Freddy Krueger is, but I’m not. I’m just a character actor, a utility actor who’s been very lucky. I’m too old and thick to play Freddy now. I just can’t do fight scenes for more than one take anymore, I’ve got a bad neck and bad back and arthritis in my right wrist. So I have to hang it up, but I would love to cameo.”
He added that Kevin Bacon would be a good choice as his successor, “I know he respects the genre, and he’s such a fine physical actor. I think that in the silences and in the way Kevin moves – it would be interesting.”

TRIVIA---trivia for May 31, 2023 which is Clint Eastwood's 93rd birthday.

STAR WARS---Taiki Waititi commented on the status of his STAR WARS movie, “I’ve got a really good idea for it. It’s just as with all films, it’s this middle part. SPIDER-MAN---producer Amy Pascal commented on a new sequel starring Tom Holland, "Are we going to make another movie? Of course, we are. AL PACINO--the 83 year-old actor's 29 year-old girlfriend, Noor Alfallah, is eight months pregnant. Pacino has three other children. Alfallah is the executive producer of BILLY KNIGHT which stars Pacino.

TRIVIA---Brenda Vaccaro starred in two movies in which she was the love interest of a pilot whose mission failed.
In AIRPORT '77, Vaccaro played Eve Clayton whose boyfriend, Capt. Don Gallagher (Jack Lemmon), was the pilot of a hijacked 747 jetliner that crashed in the Bermuda Triangle. In CAPRICORN ONE, Vaccaro played Kay Brubaker, whose husband, Col. Charles Brubaker (James Brolin), was the commander of Capricorn One, man's first manned mission to Mars that was really a hoax.

FAST & FURIOUS---Dwayne Johnson confirmed he is returning to the FAST & FURIOUS franchise. He also commented on his feud with co-star Vin Diesel, “Despite us having our differences, me and Vin, we’ve been like brothers for years. When you lead with the idea of, number one, resolve, but also…you just think about the future, you just think about plans that are much bigger than ourselves. And those bigger plans are the bigger build-outs, those bigger plans are the North Star.”
Film critic Jeff Sneider commented on Johnson's return, “The Rock has had a really hard time getting greenlights. I’m hearing that Dwayne is [having] trouble getting greenlights after his last couple movies, which are JUNGLE CRUISE, RED NOTICE, BLACK ADAM. And so basically, he was forced to go back to the character of Hobbs and do this [FAST & FURIOUS]] franchise. And the thing that doesn’t bode well is that this individual is also saying that RED ONE is not good as well. RED ONE is his upcoming Amazon one, and I’ve heard that Amazon is the latest studio to be like, ‘Yeah, we’re done doing this experience again.'”

FAST-FURIOUS-2.jpg

SPIDER-MAN---Tom Holland commented on returning for a new sequel, “I can’t talk about that, but I can say that we have been having meetings. We’ve put the meetings on pause in solidarity with the writers. There’s been multiple conversations had, but at this point it’s very, very early stages.”

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE: DEAD RECKONING-PART ONE---sources claim Tom Cruise is “complaining loudly to Paramount executives and others” about DEAD RECKONING opening in IMAX theaters on July 12, but it will be pushed out when OPPENHEIMER and BARBIE premiere in IMAX theaters on July 21. Cruise is reportedly "been furiously showing the film to exhibitors in an effort to convince them to switch their plans from OPPENHEIMER or BARBIE."

JUSTIFIED---Timothy Olyphant said he would glad to return for JUSTIFIED projects, “I’d show up. I had a good time. Every time we’ve done this I’ve had a good time.” Executive producer Sarah Timberman added, added: “If he shows up I show up, we all show up.”

OPPENHEIMER---the J. Robert Oppenheimer biomovie received an R-rating.

AL PACINO---TMZ's sources said Al Pacino, 83, had "medical issues" which would prevent him from impregnating Noor Alfallah, 29, and so demanded a DNA test. After the test
confirmed he is the father, Pacino was "shocked".

AUSCHWITZ---director Abel Ferrara said he and Shia LaBeouf ware developing a movie set in the Nazi concentration camp with LaBeouf writing the script.

TRIVIA---Iain Tyrrell, founder of Tyrrell Engineering Ltd., restored the classic Lamborghini Miura #3586 driven by Rossano Brazzi in the original THE ITALIAN JOB.

BEETLEJUICE 2---Michael Keaton commented on the sequel , “BEETLEJUICE is the most f*cking fun you can have working. It’s so fun. It’s so great. And you know what it is? We’re doing it exactly like we did the first movie. There’s a woman in the great waiting room for the afterlife literally with a fishing line – I want people to know this because I love it – tugging on the tail of a cat to make it move.”
He added, "[Burton] and I were talking about it years and years ago, never telling anybody. I said, ‘If it happens, first of all, we’ve both said we’re doing it many times. We both agreed if it happens, it has to be done as close to the way we made it the first time.
Making stuff up, making stuff happen, improvising and riffing, but literally handmade stuff like people creating things with their hands and building something. F*cking great. It’s the most fun I’ve had working on a movie in I can’t tell you how long.”

FAST X---an inside source claims Vin Diesel is now feuding with Jason Momoa, “Vin is embarrassed Jason is being branded the only bright spot in the film and stealing his thunder in the franchise he built himself. Jason knows he’s the flavor of the moment and Vin’s jealous of him. But he doesn’t appreciate Vin trying to poison the public against him. This has the potential to be Hollywood’s next biggest feud.”

THE WINCHESTERS---Warner Bros. Television was unable to find a new network for the CW-cancelled tv series, so it is now officially cancelled.

HOCUS POCUS 3---Walt Disney announced a new sequel is underway.

TRIVIA---June 4, 2023 was the 81st anniversary of the Battle of Midway in which the US Navy's defeat of the Japanese Navy turned the tide of World War II in the Pacific Theater.
The 1976 movie MIDWAY starred Charlton Heston, Henry Fonda, Hal Holbrook and Glenn Ford. Two actors who played Marines defending Midway were Larry Pennell as Capt. Cyril Simard and Tom Selleck as Simard's aide. Six years later when Selleck had achieved stardom on MAGNUM, P.I., Selleck and Pennell reunited for the episode "Double Jeopardy" in which Thomas Magnum investigated who tried to murder movie star Jack Martin, who was played by Pennell.

NAPOLEON---photo released of Joaquin Phoenix starring in Ridley Scott's Napoleon Bonaparte biomovie.

THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER---Chris Hemsworth commented on criticism of the sequel that Taiki Waititi went too far with the humor, “I think we just had too much fun. It just became too silly. It’s always hard being in the center of it and having any real perspective…I love the process. It’s always a ride. But you just don’t know how people are going to respond."
Hemsworth said his son's friend were the best critics, “It’s a bunch of eight-year-olds critiquing my film. ‘We thought this one had too much humor, the action was cool, but the VFX weren’t as good’. I cringe and laugh equally at it.”

I AM SYBIL---Elle Fanning and Sarah Paulson will star in this movie based on the book SYBIL EXPOSED about the woman who claimed she had 16 personalities. The 1976 tv movie SYBIL starred Sally Field.

COMMUNITY---Joel McHale commented on the status of the movie spinoff of the tv series, "We had a shooting date coming up, which was going to be in the summer. And I think they were extremely close to – I mean, Dan [Harmon] is somebody that tweaks things but, obviously, that’s all stopped. But I think it was pretty darn close."
He added, "It was close, the shoot date was coming up, and we were all excited to do it, and then the writer’s strike happened, which obviously put everything on hold, and rightfully so. The writers are asking for very reasonable things. Writers need to be paid properly.”

CAPTAIN AMERICA---Marvel Studios announced the sequel title has been changed from CAPTAIN AMERICA: NEW WORLD ORDER to CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD.

THE LION KING---Walt Disney Pictures head Sean Bailey said a LION KING universe is underway that will be a “big, epic saga” similar to STAR WARS.

LAW & ORDER TORONTO: CRIMINAL INTENT---Canadian spinoff series is underway.

TRIVIA---June 6, 2023 is the 79th anniversary of D-Day, the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied France in World War II.
EMPIRE magazine's poll picked SAVING PRIVATE RYAN's D-Day Omaha Beach scene as the best battle scene ever in motion picture history.
The 23-minute scene cost $12 million and involved 1,500 cast and crew members. Associate producer Mark Huffam said, "There was a massive team of 400 people involved, and that was just the crew. On top of that we had about 1,000 members of the FCA (Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil --Irish Local Defense Force) and dozens of extras, many of whom were amputees so that we could make the war injuries look very realistic."
He added, "We had an amazing group of prosthetic engineers who made over 1,000 dummies that were so realistic it was incredible. They were so anatomically correct, down to the use of human hair on their heads, each one punched in individually. We really pushed technology and effects to their limits and beyond with PRIVATE RYAN. Normally in a war movie you buy a few gallons of fake blood to do it, but for Curracloe alone we were using 40 gallon drums of it, loads of them."
Huffam said, "It blew me away. It struck me with total fear. And that's what Spielberg wanted to achieve, not just for shock value, but to show what war was really like on those beaches."

EMPIRE's Top 10 Battle Scenes are:

1. SAVING PRIVATE RYAN---Omaha Beach
2. ALEXANDER---Guagamela
3. ZULU---Rorke's Drift
4. THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS---Helm's Deep
5. KINGDOM OF HEAVEN---Siege of Jerusalem
6. ALEXANDER NEVSKY---Chudskoye Lake
7. ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT (original)---The French Front
8. BROTHERHOOD---Invasion of South Korea
9. THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK---Assault on Hoth
10. LAWRENCE OF ARABIA---Massacre outside Damascus

MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE---Chris Hemsworth commented on the criticism of the MCU by Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino, "That’s super depressing when I hear that. There goes two of my heroes I won’t work with. I guess they’re not a fan of me."

PERRY MASON---HBO cancelled the series.

BRYAN SINGER---director Bryan Singer is developing documentary which will address allegations that he sexually assaulted teenage boys which led to him being fired as the director of BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY.

TRIVIA---actress Finn Carter is perhaps best known for playing seismologist Rhonda LeBeck, Kevin Bacon's love interest in the sci fi movie TREMORS. Carter is the daughter of journalist Hodding Carter, the Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs, who became famous as the State Department sopkesman in the Jimmy Carter Administration during the Iranian hostage crisis and the disastrous military mission to rescue the hostages.
After TREMORS, Carter appeared on CHINA BEACH, LAW & ORDER, ER, NYPD BLUE, CSI and MURDER, SHE WROTE.

HEART OF STONE---photo released of Gal Gadot playing agent Rachel Stone in the Netflix spy action movie. Gadot said, "I grew up watching Bond, and Mission, and Bourne. I wanted to create a really strong, female-driven action movie that is for everybody, not a male story that’s been done many times already.”

HEART-OF-STONE-FOTOR.jpg

WEDNESDAY---Jenny Ortega commented on Season 2, “We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more. Because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously. We’re ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great.”

THOR---Anthony Hopkins commented on playing Odin in the Marvel movies, "They put me in armor; they shoved a beard on me. Sit on the throne; shout a bit. If you’re sitting in front of a green screen, it’s pointless acting it.”

DOCTOR WHO---Bonnie Langford said she is returning as Melanie Bush for the new season, "This isn’t just a cameo, Bonnie is right in the thick of the action, battling monsters and chaos and cliffhangers, right at the Doctor’s side, just like the old days.”

TRIVIA---Ilya Salkind, producer of the 1978 movie SUPERMAN, said DC Comics demanded approval for the cast of the superhero movie. Salkind submitted a bizarre list for the Superman role that DC approved, “One of the conditions with DC Comics was I had to make a list of actors to play Superman that they had to approve. I had made a list … that was absolutely hilarious because they had approved people like Cassius Clay [Muhammad Ali] then, they had approved Al Pacino, they had approved Dustin Hoffman. They had approved them, they could play Superman.”

GHOSTBUSTERS---artwork released for the new sequel which will be “the next chapter of the Spengler family saga”.

GHOSTBUSTERS-2-FOTOR.jpg

MEG 2: THE TRENCH---producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura said the sequel will have more humor and less gore than the original movie, "It's really held its appeal, so in making this movie, one of the things we learned is you could add more comedy than we originally thought in a shark movie, in a way. So I think this movie is probably funnier. There's certainly some big laughs in it. There's more shark attacks. There's more crazy ideas that we've tested out on the audience. So the movie, it's testing well, but more importantly, the audience seems to be relating to it very similar to the first movie."
He explained how the sequel earned its PG-13 rating, "They push back on the blood. As long as you don't do gore, they sort of accept the fun nature of it, you know? And I think because of the fun nature, it takes the edge off it a little bit. But at the same time, the movie needs to have some edge, or else it feels like it becomes a spoof or something, and that's definitely not what it is. So, I think the trickiest thing about THE MEG is keeping that balance between violence and humor."

SUITABLE FLESH---retro poster released for the horror movie based on HP Lovecraft's THE THING ON THE DOORSTEP. Heather Graham, Barbara Crampton and Judah Lewis star.

THE LEGEND OF ZELDA---Universal Pictures is in negotiations with Nintendo to develop an animated movie based on the video game.

BEWITCHED---Sony Pictures Television-Kids is developing an animated tv series about Tabitha Stevens, the teenage daughter of Samantha and Darrin Stevens, who is a student in the witches academy run by her grandmother, Endora. Sony is also developing an animated THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY tv series focusing on a black family.

TRIVIA---James Brolin played a submarine technician in two 1966 20th Century Fox movies produced by Saul David. In the spy spoof movie OUR MAN FLINT, Brolin played a technician on the evil Galaxy organization's submarine. In the sci fi movie FANTASTIC VOYAGE, Brolin played a technician loading the submarine Proteus before it and its crew were miniaturized and injected into an injured defecting scientist's bloodstream to save his life.

MADAME WEB---producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura commented on the superhero movie starring Dakota Johnson, “It’s a different kind of movie in that universe … It’s almost, in a way, more of a thriller. it’s not an action piece, because, in a way, [Madam Web’s] skill set is not conducive to an action piece.”

JOHN WICK---director Chad Stahelski said Halle Berry will return for future JOHN WICK spinoffs, "Yeah. We have actually been in talks several times to try to... I hate the term spinoff. But they are trying to do other satellite projects off the WICK franchise. Hopefully they'll be good ones."

JAMES BOND---Roger Moore' son, Geoffrey, said he does not approve of a female 007, but supports a female-led spinoff, "Well, then it’s no longer James Bond. I mean, she could be 006, 008 or 009. In the last Bond, I think [Lashana Lynch being 007 temporarily] was the confusion. That she was 007 and then said, 'I’ve got to give it back to Bond. It’s his number.' So, I think that’s very good. I think they were also testing the waters. Maybe there will be a 'From the filmmakers of James Bond comes Jane or Jemima Bond' or whatever. It wouldn’t be the same because it’s Bond. It’s Fleming’s Bond. It’s a guy, unfortunately. In today’s world, a woman would be great. If you look at Charlize Theron in ATOMIC BLONDE…I mean, woman can certainly pull it off and certainly do the fight sequences. And even if not, as a species, ladies are probably smarter! But in terms of the role itself, Fleming’s Bond is James Bond. [Do women deserve their own, equally successful franchise?] It’s right, and they should. But if you want to do a female Bond, you can’t just call her 'James Bond.' Personally, I don’t think that [would work]."

LEPRECHAUN---Lionsgate reboot movie is underway without Warwick Davis.

HERETIC---Hugh Grant is in talks to star in this horror movie whose plot is rumored to involve two young religious women who are stalked by a man in his house.

YOUNG ROCK---NBC cancelled the series.

TRIVIA---more James Bond movie trivia.
In 2003, Quentin Tarantino said he wanted to film a remake of CASINO ROYALE based on Ian Fleming's first James Bond novel, "Someday I`m going to get the rights to do CASINO ROYALE, the first James Bond novel, and do it the right way. I really wanted it to be my followup to PULP FICTION and do it with Pierce Brosnan, but have it take place after the events of ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE - after Bond`s wife, Tracy, has been killed.
I want Bond to be in mourning when he falls in love with Vesper Lynd, the woman in the novel. From what I know of Brosnan and read in interviews, I think he`d want to go in the direction I`d want to take Bond, though I`m not certain producers of the series would agree."
Pierce Brosnan added, "I went to them and asked about making CASINO ROYALE which is the first Ian Fleming book. I had hooked up with Quentin Tarantino, who wanted to direct the movie. On the fifth apple martini one evening, he mentioned CASINO ROYALE, which is the blueprint for the psyche of Bond, and I took that idea to the Broccoli family, who produce the Bond movies. They have a way of doing the films, and they are not open to discussion -- they threw my idea out the window."
In 2009, Tarantino was bitter about his 007 movie being rejected, “The reason they did [2006] CASINO ROYALE all comes down to me. I made it a point, I said I wanted to do CASINO ROYALE. They were already on record as saying the movie was unfilmable but then after I said it and talked about it for a little bit — then the big thing on all the internets was that that was what all the fans wanted to see and so that’s when they said, ‘Oh, maybe it’s not so un-filmable.' Actually if I had done the film, I wouldn’t have done it with Daniel Craig, I would have done it with Pierce Brosnan.”

STAR WARS---Michael Shannon commented on why he turned down a role in an undisclosed STAR WARS movie, “They were gonna give me a lot of money, but I was like nah. Big movie, too. But I have to think it’s an interesting story. If I don’t, I can’t do it. I won’t do it. I’m always a bit wary about those giant movies. Because they take a lot of time and I don’t find them very stimulating to work on. I don’t ever want to get stuck in a franchise. I don’t find them interesting and I don’t want to perpetuate them.”
He added, “If l’m making something, I want there to be some kind of purpose to it — I don’t want to make mindless entertainment. The world doesn’t need more mindless entertainment. We’re inundated with it."
Shannon also talked about returning as General Zod in THE FLASH, "I’m not gonna lie, it wasn’t quite satisfying for me, as an actor. These multiverse movies are like somebody playing with action figures. It’s like, ‘Here’s this person. Here’s that person. And they’re fighting!’...It’s not quite the in-depth character study situation that I honestly felt MAN OF STEEL was. Whether people think that’s crazy or not, I don’t even care. I really felt like MAN OF STEEL was actually a pretty sophisticated story. I feel like THE FLASH is too, but it’s not Zod’s story. I’m basically there to present a challenge.”

COYOTES---Jordan Peele and producer Selena Gomez are reportedly developing a tv series based on the graphic novel about a border town cop and a little girl who team up to battle werewolves preying on local women.

BILL MURRAY---director Wes Anderson said he is sticking by Bill Murray after allegations of sexual misconduct by female co-stars, "My experience with Bill is so extensive. Bill was such a great supporter of me from the very beginning. I don’t want to speak about somebody else’s experience, but he’s really part of my family. You know, he’s my daughter’s godfather. In fact, he actually baptized her. He’s the one who splashed the water."

ORION AND THE DARK---Dreamworks Animation/Netflix movie underway based on the book. Charlie Kaufman (BEING JOHN MALKOVICH) is the writer.

CW---CW renewed SUPERMAN & LOIS, ALL AMERICAN: HOMECOMING and cancelled GOTHAM KNIGHTS.

DEADPOOL 3---Zazie Beetz said she is not returning for the sequel, "Well I’m actually not in DEADPOOL 3, so I don’t know what they’re doing [about improvisation]. I’m assuming they’re probably taking a pause...I’m excited to watch it."

TRIVIA---Meryl Streep was 26 years old when Federico De Laurentiis brought in Streep to meet his father, producer Dino De Laurentiis, to star in his remake of KING KONG. Dino said to his son in Italian, “[why do you bring me this] ugly thing?" Streep, who spoke Italian, replied, "I'm sorry you think I'm too ugly for your film, but you're just one opinion in a sea of thousands and I'm off to find a kinder tide."
Streep later posted a Facebook photo of herself on the New York subway after meeting with De Laurentiis (she posted, "Today I have 18 Academy Awards" which probably refers to her then-Academy Award nominations and not Oscars won which is three).
Dino De Laurentiis picked Jessica Lange to star in the KING KONG remake.

THE CONTINENTAL---photo of Mel Gibson starring as Cormac in the Peacock three-part prequel series to JOHN WICK. Producer Basil Iwanyk said, “The four Wick films take place over a 3 month span. John is either chasing, or being chased. There has been no time to take a breath, to allow the audience to dig deeper into the world and its denizens. In our show, THE CONTINENTAL, we finally have space to explore these characters, how they became who they are, and how The Continental became the epicenter of this world. Combine that with introducing new characters that are as compelling as any in the John Wick universe. Action that’s crazy cool and inventive. Easter eggs that will excite the hardcore Wick fans. And what I love the most: a vision of ‘70s New York that embodies the sexiness, edginess, and visceral style that the franchise is known for. This show will look/sound/smell cooler than any show out there.”

STAR WARS---James Mangold commented on his origin movie, “For me, it’s about, I want to be part of the saga, but I also don’t want to be holding so much lore in the air that you can hardly tell a story. And what I really wanted to do, what I told her, was just can we make a kind of the Ten Commandments of the Force, you know? A kind of origin story of how the Force came to be known, understood, wielded, and harnessed.”

ALIEN---the Fede Alvarez movie starring Cailee Spaeny will premiere on August 16, 2024.

TRIVIA---Ahmed Best explained why he played Jar Jar Binks after Michael Jackson wanted the role, "Me, Natalie Portman, and George's kids — we were at Wembley arena at Michael Jackson's concert. We were taken backstage and we met Michael. George introduced me as 'Jar Jar' and I was like, 'That's kind of weird.'"
Best then asked Lucas why he introduced Best as Jar Jar, "He said, 'Well, Michael wanted to do the part but he wanted to do it in prosthetics and makeup like THRILLER. George wanted to do it in CGI. My guess is ultimately Michael Jackson would have been bigger than the movie, and I don't think he wanted that."

GUILLERMO DEL TORO---Guillermo del Toro said he wants to concentrate on animated movies, “There are a couple more live-action movies I want to do but not many. After that, I only want to do animation. That’s the plan.”
Del Toro also commented on dealing with Hollywood studios, "They still say no to me. In the last two months, they said no to five of my projects. So it doesn’t go away. Making movies is eating a sandwich of *****. There’s always *****, just sometimes you get a little more bread with yours. The rate of productivity against your efforts will remain frustratingly difficult, and frustratingly long. And you will always encounter *******s. But have faith in the stories you want to tell and wait until someone wants to buy them."

Both Sanfilippo and Reardon have rap sheets of their own, but what went down in the summer of 2012 at Baseball Heaven will define them and their families forever. Stalking claims, threatening text messages, and an unwarranted arrest later at the heart of it all, it’s a story about the lengths fathers will go for their sons.”

CHRISTOPHER NOLAN---Warner Bros. sent Christopher Nolan a seven-figure "good faith" royalty check in an attempt to lure him back. Nolan had a long relationship with Warner Bros., but he ended the relationship after Warner Bros. decided to release its movie in theaters and on HBO Max during the pandemic. THOR---Chris Hemwsworth commented on his future as Thor, “I’ve got to be careful how I word that because I have no idea what’s happening in the next phase. There are always conversations… Before anything is official, people throw around ideas. But officially, I don’t know.
I don’t want to continue to do it until people are so exhausted that they roll their eyes when they see me come on the screen as that character.
If an audience wants to see it, and if there’s something that we believe is exciting and fun, then great. I’ve loved being able to reinvent that character a few times. I don’t have the answer yet, but I would love to try and [figure out] how we can do that again and keep it a little unpredictable.”

THE WALKING DEAD: DEAD CITY---Jeffrey Dean Morgan commented on many fan suggestions of a romance between Negan and Maggie, "I am incredibly amused by it. I find it fascinating that people are shipping them because when I watched the show and when we were playing these scenes, what’s really fascinating is that she might kill me at any minute, or he may kill her. I thought that was more interesting than anything else. But other people look at it like, 'Oh, hey, they should be together.' We both are very amused by the whole thing."

HANNIBAL---Mads Mikkelsen commented on the chance of the horror series being revived, “There’s always a chance. It’s all about finding a home for it. Of course, we’re running out of time. We can’t wait 20 years, but in the next couple of years, if somebody finds a home, I think we are all ready to take it up again”

TRIVIA---the Rotten Tomatoes movie review website was created by Senh Duong because he was a big fan of Jackie Chan and always thought about creating a website that would include all reviews of Chan's movies. When Chan's RUSH HOUR was about to premiere in 1998, it was the catalyst for Senh to get started on the website which took him two weeks to develop.
Rotten Tomatoes is the 593rd highest-ranked website in the world and the 254th highest-ranked website in the US.
