OBI-WAN KENOBI---Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy said there are plans for a sequel to the miniseries, "I always hesitate to say no to more Obi-Wan Kenobi. Maybe we end up doing something that gets incorporated into some of the other stories that we're doing, or eventually into a movie, but who knows? But right now, it's still our standard stand-alone limited series, we have no plans for expansion right now."

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MUTANT MAYHEM---poster released for the sequel.

FAST & FURIOUS---Vin Diesel said a female-led spinoff movie is underway, “I started developing the female spinoff…in 2017 with other spinoffs, and the sooner I deliver the finale, the sooner I can launch all the spinoffs."

OPPENHEIMER---Christopher Nolan said the J. Robert Oppenheimer biomovie is his longest movie with runtime of almost three hours, "It's slightly longer than the longest we've done. It's kissing three hours." Nolan's INTERSTELLAR has a runtime of two hours and 49 minutes.

CINDERELLA'S CURSE---Louisa Warren will direct this horror movie which she described as, “An incredibly unique spin on the Cinderella we all love and know. There are going to be some truly horrific deaths by her hands.”

TRIVIA---Michael Caine's first credited movie role was playing Pvt. Lockyer in A HILL IN KOREA, in which he played a British soldier whose unit is under attack by large numbers of Chinese troops during the Korean War. Caine, who was a veteran of the Korean War, was a technical adviser on the movie. Also in the movie was Stanley Baker, who played Cpl. Ryker.
Eight years later, Caine and Baker reunited for another war movie, ZULU, in which British 150 troops are under attack by 4,000 Zulu warriors. Caine played Lt. Gronville Bromhead and Baker played Lt. John Chard. ZULU launched Caine's career and made him a star.

THE MANDALORIAN---Pedro Pascal confirmed he only provides the voice for The Mandalorian while Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder actually wear the costume and act on the series, "There was an extended amount of experimentation, being in the suit for a lot of it, and frankly, my body wasn’t up for the task as far as, like, the four months of it. But I was in it. I was in it a significant amount, an elastic amount. But now we’ve figured it out, which is super cool, and amazingly, it gave me the opportunity to be able to go and do something else."

STAR WARS---Natalie Portman was asked if she might return as Padme Amidala after Hayden Christensen returned as Anakin Skywalker in the OBI-WAN KENOBI miniseries, “I have no information on [coming back]. No one has ever asked me to return, but I’m open to it.”

BLACK WIDOW---Florence Pugh commented on how her fans reacted to her co-starring in a Marvel superhero movie, "So many people in the indie film world were really pissed off at me. They were like, ‘Great, now she’s gone forever.’ And I’m like, no, I’m working as hard as I used to work. I’ve always done back-to-back movies. It’s just people are watching them now. You just have to be a bit more organized with your schedule."

TRIVIA---May 24, 2023 is the 82nd anniversary of the Royal Navy battlecruiser HMS Hood being sunk by the German battleship Bismarck in World War II. British actor Robin Hughes was a signalman who was supposed to board the Hood as it set sail to hunt for the Bismarck, but the day before, he was reassigned to officer's training school which saved his life. Of the Hood's crew of 1,418 men, only three survived. Hughes said in in an interview he was "four".
Hughes is probably best known to American audiences for appearing in THE TWILIGHT ZONE episode "The Howling Man" in which he claimed he was an innocent traveler, who was falsely imprisoned by mad monks in an ancient castle. After tricking a man to free him, he revealed himself to be The Devil, who was now free to continue inflicting misery and suffering on mankind.

THE MOVIE CRITIC---Quentin Tarantino commented on the movie critic that inspired his upcoming movie after denying it was Pauline Kael, “He wrote about mainstream movies and he was the second-string critic. I think he was a very good critic. He was as cynical as hell.
His reviews were a cross between early Howard Stern and what Travis Bickle [Robert DeNiro’s character in TAXI DRIVER] might be if he were a film critic. Think about Travis’s diary entries. But the porno rag critic was very, very funny. He was very rude, you know. He cursed. He used racial slurs. But his s— was really funny. He was as rude as hell.
He wrote like he was 55, but he was only in his early to mid-30s. He died in his late thirties. It wasn’t clear for a while, but now I’ve done some more research, and I think it was it was complications due to alcoholism.”

TERMINATOR 7---James Cameron said he is working on a possible reboot of the movie franchise, “In discussion, but nothing has been decided...If I were to do another TERMINATOR film and maybe try and to launch that franchise again … I would make it much more about the AI side of it than bad robots gone crazy.”

THE WITCHER---Dolph Lundgren confirmed he will join the cast of the spinoff series currently filming in South Africa, but he did not provide any details on his role. Speculation is that the series will be a prequel featuring the thievery group called the Rats and Lundgren might play bounty hunter Leo Bonhart.

AMERICAN PIE---Seann William Scott there are talks about a new sequel to the 1999 comedy movie, "I don't know, I just love the character so much. We have to have a great idea, and especially these days, it has to be awesome. You know, comedy is tough, and they have always been tough, but you know, comedies have really changed. But I think, honestly, we have been talking about an idea. I had one and I still have one that we've literally just recently started talking about."

TRIVIA---In Joe Dante's tribute to 1950s B-monster movies, MATINEE, character actor Dick Miller played two roles. JOHN WICK 5---Lionsgate head Joe Drake said JOHN WICK 5 is underway, "What is official is that, as you know, BALLERINA is the first spinoff that comes out next year. We're in development on three others, including [JOHN WICK 5] and including television series, THE CONTINENTAL, will be airing soon. And so, we're building out the world and when that five movie comes, will be organic -- will be organically grown out of how we're starting to tell those stories. But you can rely on a regular cadence of John Wick."
The JOHN WICK franchise has surpassed $1 billion in global ticket sales.

TOP GUN: MAVERICK---Tom Cruise was paid $2 million ($5.6 million in 2023 dollars) for the 1986 movie. Cruise will make $100 million or more for MAVERICK which includes a percentage of the sequel's box office.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE--DEAD RECKONING PART ONE---the sequel's runtime is 156 minutes without credits which makes it the longest movie in the franchise.

BUTTERFLY---Daniel Dae Kim will star in this Amazon Studios tv series based on the spy graphic novel. The synopsis says, “In the series, David Jung (Kim), an enigmatic, highly unpredictable former US intelligence operative living in South Korea, whose life is blown to pieces when the consequences of an impossible decision from his past come back to haunt him, and he finds himself pursued by Rebecca, a deadly, sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him."

CITADEL---Amazon Prime renewed the series for Season 2. A spinoff titled CITADEL: DIANA starring Matilda De Angelis is underway.

QUENTIN TARANTINO---Quentin Tarantino said he will retire from movies after his tenth movie, THE MOVIE CRITIC, but he said he might do a tv series, "I could do a TV show. I didn’t say I’m going to go into the night darkly, all right? I could do a TV show. I could do a short film. I could do a play. All kinds of things I could do, but I’ll probably just be more of a writer."

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS---Elizabeth Olsen confirmed reports that Daniel Craig was originally going to appear in the movie as Balder the Brave, “Yes, that’s what I thought was going to happen too. I saw the art. They made a costume. They had a design.”

TRIVIA---in the STAR TREK episode "Shore Leave", stuntman Paul Baxley played the medieval knight who impaled Dr. McCoy. In the KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER episode "The Knightly Murders", Baxley played a man who was impaled by a medieval knight.
Baxley was a star football player, a Marine sniper who was awarded the Bronze Star in World War II and the stuntman/stunt coordinator for STAR TREK, KOLCHAK THE NIGHT STALKER, WONDER WOMAN and THE DUKES OF HAZZARD. MADDEN---Will Ferrell will play NFL coach John Madden in this David O. Russell biomovie. The synopsis says, “A Prime Video Sports Original, Madden tells the story of one of the larger-than-life personalities to grace an NFL sideline. All Madden ever wanted was to be a head coach and he was one of the best ever. After winning the Super Bowl, the stress of the job began to destroy him. It forced him away from his dream job, and the film focuses on his friendship with Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis, and how Madden found a second act that made him far more famous. ”

AHSOKA---Temuera Morrison (THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT) will reportedly play Capt. Rex in the Disney+ tv miniseries.

FAST AND FURIOUS---Ludacris commented on critics who question why the franchise continues on, "That's the dumbest f*cking question in the world. I'm going to tell you why. CLIIFHANGER 2---director Ric Roman Waugh commented on the sequel to the 1993 Sylvester Stallone action movie, "Stallone’s character will be, of the age he is now – Gabe Walker – he’s got a daughter, he’s got an heir apparent, pseudo son, and they have a mountaineering company, Italian Alps. Tragedy strikes that’s very similar to what happened in the original movie, so the father and daughter have to deal with that and how to overcome tragedy.
[How do we get through traumatic experiences and fight to move forward? It’s what extreme sports like climbing are all about. And of course, there might be some nefarious bad guys that show up in the Italian Alps, and all hell breaks loose.”

HBO---HBO drama head Francesca Orsi commented on a possible THE LAST OF US Season 3 from showrunners Craig Mazan and Neil Druckman, "I think Craig and Neil are still figuring out where they’re going to come to an end. We have loosely heard that there will be a Season 3 idea for the series, but at this point, we’re taking it one season at a time. There’s no guarantee at this point that we’ll have a Season 3, but I know that they both have a vision for Season 3. Whether that lends itself to doing more [seasons], I don’t know yet.”
Orsi also commented on a possible SUCCESSION spinoff series, “No, not at this point now. I know there was some talk about spin-offs, but no, not at all.”

THE WITCHER---director Sophie Holland confirmed there will be a Season 5, “We’re just about to start filming on Season 4with Liam Hemsworth, and there will be a short gap, then we go straight into Season 5.”

TRIVIA---Memorial Day trivia.
In World War II, Lt. Buck Compton was one of the top paratroop leaders of the 101st Airborne Division's Easy Company where he was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star. As a student at UCLA, Compton was am All-America baseball player and was also a football player who played in the 1943 Rose Bowl. As the Los Angeles Chief Deputy District Attorney, Compton successfully prosecuted Sirhan Sirhan for the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy.
Compton was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity where one of his fraternity brothers was Dick Jenson, who later became Gen. George S. Patton's favorite personal aid and was killed during a German air raid in North Africa. Patton said about Jenson's death, "Captain Jenson . . . had volunteered to go to the front as an additional officer in our tank force on the Gabes road. When Stukas came over this morning he was standing only a few feet from one of our generals [Omar Bradley]. Both dived into slit trenches. A heavy bomb landed almost at the edge of the one in which Jenson lay. He was killed instantly..."

STAR WARS---Mark Hamill commented on if he might return as a Force ghost in the upcoming movie starring Daisy Ridley, “Everything is confidential. So, if I were involved, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. And if I were not involved, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. So, I don’t know. We’ll all find out together, I guess...No, I don’t have any expectations of that happening.”

SUCCESSION---Stephen King tweeted his reply to a NEW YORK TIMES article about the end of the HBO series titled, "Succession is Over: Why Did We Care?"

STREAMING PLATFORMS---Quentin Tarantino commented on movies that are made by streaming platforms, "I like the idea of giving it my all for 30 years and then saying, 'OK, that's enough.’ And I don't like working to diminishing returns. And I mean, now is a good time because I mean, what even is a motion picture anyway anymore? Is it just something that they show on Apple? That would be diminishing returns.
I mean, and I’m not picking on anybody, but apparently for Netflix, Ryan Reynolds has made $50 million on this movie and $50 million on that movie and $50 million on the next movie for them. I don’t know what any of those movies are. I’ve never seen them. Have you? I haven’t ever talked to Ryan Reynolds’ agent, but his agent is like, "Well, it cost $50 million." Well, good for him that he’s making so much money. But those movies don’t exist in the zeitgeist. It’s almost like they don’t even exist.”

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.---Chloe Bennet commented on rumors she is returning as Daisy Johnson in a new Marvel Studios project, "Of course. Of course, I would be open to it. Listen, there's a lot of stuff around that. I so deeply love S.H.I.E.L.D.'s fans because it's this tenacity that got the show on air to begin with. I have not once been approached or asked or involved in anything after I wrapped S.H.I.E.L.D. And I am not involved in anything that is coming out. I've not been asked, but I would be more than excited to put on the suit again. And, of course, of course, Daisy is a big part of who I am. EXTRACTION---director Sam Hargrave said a third movie is being discussed, “We’re kind of waiting to see how the second movie is received. Fingers crossed, if people enjoy the second one, there already is – and this is without spoiling anything – but there is a story in development for a third movie in the works. What it is exactly, I can’t say right now, but I believe there is another adventure in the wind for Tyler Rake.”

THE EXPENDABLES 4---Arnold Schwarzenegger confirmed he is not returning for the latest sequel, “It’s done and I’m not in it." He added that he spoke to Sylvester Stallone about not returning, “I said, ‘You know what, we have done this and I’m out of it.’ And he really understood.”

LOST---Damon Lindelof commented on accusations of racism and a toxic work environment during the filming of LOST in the new book BURN IT DOWN, "My level of fundamental inexperience as a manager and a boss, my role as someone who was supposed to model a climate of creative danger and risk-taking but provide safety and comfort inside of the creative process – I failed in that endeavor.
I was like, OK, as long as there are one or two [writers] who don’t look and think exactly like me, then, then I’m OK. I came to learn that was even worse. DEADPOOL 3---a source claims the sequel will have Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Storm (Halle Berry), Jean Grey (Famke Janssen), Cyclops (James Marsden) and an X-Men movie villain and a Marvel villain.

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET---Robert Englund said he will not return as Freddy Krueger because he is too old, “I know who icons are. I’m not an icon. Maybe Freddy Krueger is, but I’m not. I’m just a character actor, a utility actor who’s been very lucky. I’m too old and thick to play Freddy now. I just can’t do fight scenes for more than one take anymore, I’ve got a bad neck and bad back and arthritis in my right wrist. So I have to hang it up, but I would love to cameo.”
He added that Kevin Bacon would be a good choice as his successor, “I know he respects the genre, and he’s such a fine physical actor. I think that in the silences and in the way Kevin moves – it would be interesting.”

THE CONSTANT GARDENER---The Ink Factory is developing a tv miniseries based on the John le Carre novel. The 2005 movie based on the novel starred Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz.

MOANA---Thomas Kail will direct the Walt Disney live-action remake of its 2016 animated movie.

AND JUST LIKE THAT---Kim Cattrall filmed a cameo for the SEX AND THE CITY sequel after earlier saying she would never return due to her feud with Sarah Jessica Parker. The cameo has Cattrall's character, Samantha Jones, now living in London, in a phone call with Parker's character, Carrie Bradshaw. Cattrall filmed her cameo which did not have other cast members present and came after HBO head Casey Bloys asked her to return in a cameo.

AL PACINO--the 83 year-old actor's 29 year-old girlfriend, Noor Alfallah, is eight months pregnant. Pacino has three other children. Alfallah is the executive producer of BILLY KNIGHT which stars Pacino.

TRIVIA---Brenda Vaccaro starred in two movies in which she was the love interest of a pilot whose mission failed.
In AIRPORT '77, Vaccaro played Eve Clayton whose boyfriend, Capt. Don Gallagher (Jack Lemmon), was the pilot of a hijacked 747 jetliner that crashed in the Bermuda Triangle. FAST & FURIOUS---Dwayne Johnson confirmed he is returning to the FAST & FURIOUS franchise. He also commented on his feud with co-star Vin Diesel, “Despite us having our differences, me and Vin, we’ve been like brothers for years. When you lead with the idea of, number one, resolve, but also…you just think about the future, you just think about plans that are much bigger than ourselves. And those bigger plans are the bigger build-outs, those bigger plans are the North Star.”
Film critic Jeff Sneider commented on Johnson's return, “The Rock has had a really hard time getting greenlights. I’m hearing that Dwayne is [having] trouble getting greenlights after his last couple movies, which are JUNGLE CRUISE, RED NOTICE, BLACK ADAM. And so basically, he was forced to go back to the character of Hobbs and do this [FAST & FURIOUS]] franchise. And the thing that doesn’t bode well is that this individual is also saying that RED ONE is not good as well. RED ONE is his upcoming Amazon one, and I’ve heard that Amazon is the latest studio to be like, ‘Yeah, we’re done doing this experience again.'”

SPIDER-MAN---Tom Holland commented on returning for a new sequel, “I can’t talk about that, but I can say that we have been having meetings. We’ve put the meetings on pause in solidarity with the writers. There’s been multiple conversations had, but at this point it’s very, very early stages.”

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE: DEAD RECKONING-PART ONE---sources claim Tom Cruise is “complaining loudly to Paramount executives and others” about DEAD RECKONING opening in IMAX theaters on July 12, but it will be pushed out when OPPENHEIMER and BARBIE premiere in IMAX theaters on July 21. Cruise is reportedly "been furiously showing the film to exhibitors in an effort to convince them to switch their plans from OPPENHEIMER or BARBIE."

Jason knows he’s the flavor of the moment and Vin’s jealous of him. But he doesn’t appreciate Vin trying to poison the public against him. This has the potential to be Hollywood’s next biggest feud.”

COMMUNITY---Joel McHale commented on the status of the movie spinoff of the tv series, "We had a shooting date coming up, which was going to be in the summer. And I think they were extremely close to – I mean, Dan [Harmon] is somebody that tweaks things but, obviously, that’s all stopped. But I think it was pretty darn close."
He added, "It was close, the shoot date was coming up, and we were all excited to do it, and then the writer’s strike happened, which obviously put everything on hold, and rightfully so. The writers are asking for very reasonable things. Writers need to be paid properly.”

EMPIRE magazine's poll picked SAVING PRIVATE RYAN's D-Day Omaha Beach scene as the best battle scene ever in motion picture history.
The 23-minute scene cost $12 million and involved 1,500 cast and crew members. Associate producer Mark Huffam said, "There was a massive team of 400 people involved, and that was just the crew. On top of that we had about 1,000 members of the FCA (Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil --Irish Local Defense Force) and dozens of extras, many of whom were amputees so that we could make the war injuries look very realistic."
He added, "We had an amazing group of prosthetic engineers who made over 1,000 dummies that were so realistic it was incredible. They were so anatomically correct, down to the use of human hair on their heads, each one punched in individually. We really pushed technology and effects to their limits and beyond with PRIVATE RYAN. Normally in a war movie you buy a few gallons of fake blood to do it, but for Curracloe alone we were using 40 gallon drums of it, loads of them."
Huffam said, "It blew me away. It struck me with total fear. And that's what Spielberg wanted to achieve, not just for shock value, but to show what war was really like on those beaches."

MEG 2: THE TRENCH---producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura said the sequel will have more humor and less gore than the original movie, "It's really held its appeal, so in making this movie, one of the things we learned is you could add more comedy than we originally thought in a shark movie, in a way. So I think this movie is probably funnier. There's certainly some big laughs in it. There's more shark attacks. There's more crazy ideas that we've tested out on the audience. So the movie, it's testing well, but more importantly, the audience seems to be relating to it very similar to the first movie."
He explained how the sequel earned its PG-13 rating, "They push back on the blood. As long as you don't do gore, they sort of accept the fun nature of it, you know? And I think because of the fun nature, it takes the edge off it a little bit. But at the same time, the movie needs to have some edge, or else it feels like it becomes a spoof or something, and that's definitely not what it is. So, I think the trickiest thing about THE MEG is keeping that balance between violence and humor."

In 2003, Quentin Tarantino said he wanted to film a remake of CASINO ROYALE based on Ian Fleming's first James Bond novel, "Someday I`m going to get the rights to do CASINO ROYALE, the first James Bond novel, and do it the right way. I really wanted it to be my followup to PULP FICTION and do it with Pierce Brosnan, but have it take place after the events of ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE - after Bond`s wife, Tracy, has been killed.
I want Bond to be in mourning when he falls in love with Vesper Lynd, the woman in the novel. From what I know of Brosnan and read in interviews, I think he`d want to go in the direction I`d want to take Bond, though I`m not certain producers of the series would agree."
Pierce Brosnan added, "I went to them and asked about making CASINO ROYALE which is the first Ian Fleming book. I had hooked up with Quentin Tarantino, who wanted to direct the movie. On the fifth apple martini one evening, he mentioned CASINO ROYALE, which is the blueprint for the psyche of Bond, and I took that idea to the Broccoli family, who produce the Bond movies. They have a way of doing the films, and they are not open to discussion -- they threw my idea out the window."
In 2009, Tarantino was bitter about his 007 movie being rejected, “The reason they did [2006] CASINO ROYALE all comes down to me. I made it a point, I said I wanted to do CASINO ROYALE. They were already on record as saying the movie was unfilmable but then after I said it and talked about it for a little bit — then the big thing on all the internets was that that was what all the fans wanted to see and so that’s when they said, ‘Oh, maybe it’s not so un-filmable.' Actually if I had done the film, I wouldn’t have done it with Daniel Craig, I would have done it with Pierce Brosnan.”

STAR WARS---Michael Shannon commented on why he turned down a role in an undisclosed STAR WARS movie, “They were gonna give me a lot of money, but I was like nah. Big movie, too. But I have to think it’s an interesting story. If I don’t, I can’t do it. I won’t do it. I’m always a bit wary about those giant movies. Because they take a lot of time and I don’t find them very stimulating to work on. I don’t ever want to get stuck in a franchise. I don’t find them interesting and I don’t want to perpetuate them.”
He added, “If l’m making something, I want there to be some kind of purpose to it — I don’t want to make mindless entertainment. The world doesn’t need more mindless entertainment. We’re inundated with it."
Shannon also talked about returning as General Zod in THE FLASH, "I’m not gonna lie, it wasn’t quite satisfying for me, as an actor. These multiverse movies are like somebody playing with action figures. It’s like, ‘Here’s this person. Here’s that person. And they’re fighting!’...It’s not quite the in-depth character study situation that I honestly felt MAN OF STEEL was. Whether people think that’s crazy or not, I don’t even care. I really felt like MAN OF STEEL was actually a pretty sophisticated story. I feel like THE FLASH is too, but it’s not Zod’s story. I’m basically there to present a challenge.”

COYOTES---Jordan Peele and producer Selena Gomez are reportedly developing a tv series based on the graphic novel about a border town cop and a little girl who team up to battle werewolves preying on local women.

BILL MURRAY---director Wes Anderson said he is sticking by Bill Murray after allegations of sexual misconduct by female co-stars, "My experience with Bill is so extensive. Bill was such a great supporter of me from the very beginning. I don’t want to speak about somebody else’s experience, but he’s really part of my family. You know, he’s my daughter’s godfather. In fact, he actually baptized her. He’s the one who splashed the water."

ORION AND THE DARK---Dreamworks Animation/Netflix movie underway based on the book. Charlie Kaufman (BEING JOHN MALKOVICH) is the writer.

CW---CW renewed SUPERMAN & LOIS, ALL AMERICAN: HOMECOMING and cancelled GOTHAM KNIGHTS.

DEADPOOL 3---Zazie Beetz said she is not returning for the sequel, "Well I’m actually not in DEADPOOL 3, so I don’t know what they’re doing [about improvisation]. I’m assuming they’re probably taking a pause...I’m excited to watch it."

TRIVIA---Meryl Streep was 26 years old when Federico De Laurentiis brought in Streep to meet his father, producer Dino De Laurentiis, to star in his remake of KING KONG. Dino said to his son in Italian, “[why do you bring me this] ugly thing?" Streep, who spoke Italian, replied, "I'm sorry you think I'm too ugly for your film, but you're just one opinion in a sea of thousands and I'm off to find a kinder tide."
Streep later posted a Facebook photo of herself on the New York subway after meeting with De Laurentiis (she posted, "Today I have 18 Academy Awards" which probably refers to her then-Academy Award nominations and not Oscars won which is three).

STAR WARS---James Mangold commented on his origin movie, “For me, it’s about, I want to be part of the saga, but I also don’t want to be holding so much lore in the air that you can hardly tell a story. And what I really wanted to do, what I told her, was just can we make a kind of the Ten Commandments of the Force, you know? A kind of origin story of how the Force came to be known, understood, wielded, and harnessed.”

ALIEN---the Fede Alvarez movie starring Cailee Spaeny will premiere on August 16, 2024.

BAMBI---Sarah Polley is in talks to direct the Walt Disney live-action remake of its 1942 animated movie.

DISNEY JUNIOR'S ARIEL---animated tv series based on THE LITTLE MERMAID featuring the adventures of young Ariel.

TRIVIA---Ahmed Best explained why he played Jar Jar Binks after Michael Jackson wanted the role, "Me, Natalie Portman, and George's kids — we were at Wembley arena at Michael Jackson's concert. We were taken backstage and we met Michael. George introduced me as 'Jar Jar' and I was like, 'That's kind of weird.'"
Best then asked Lucas why he introduced Best as Jar Jar, "He said, 'Well, Michael wanted to do the part but he wanted to do it in prosthetics and makeup like THRILLER. George wanted to do it in CGI. My guess is ultimately Michael Jackson would have been bigger than the movie, and I don't think he wanted that."

MONSTER---Giancarlo Esposito will star in the untitled Universal Pictures monster movie. An early script involved a gang kidnapping a group of young people and discovering one of them is Dracula's daughter. Melissa Berrara, Alisha Weir, Dan Stevens and Kevin Durand also star.

THE KARATE KID---a rumor reveals the plot for the Sony Pictures reboot, “It’s about a Chinese 16-year-old who studied at Jackie Chan’s [Kung Fu studio] in China. His family moves to Brooklyn. He falls for a girl whose dad is a 35-year-old washed-up boxer who runs a pizza place. The kid trains the girl’s dad for a comeback.” Sony reportedly offered the father/ex-boxer role to Sam Worthington.

GUILLERMO DEL TORO---Guillermo del Toro said he wants to concentrate on animated movies, “There are a couple more live-action movies I want to do but not many. After that, I only want to do animation. That’s the plan.”
Del Toro also commented on dealing with Hollywood studios, "They still say no to me. In the last two months, they said no to five of my projects. So it doesn’t go away. Making movies is eating a sandwich of *****. There’s always *****, just sometimes you get a little more bread with yours. The rate of productivity against your efforts will remain frustratingly difficult, and frustratingly long. And you will always encounter *******s. But have faith in the stories you want to tell and wait until someone wants to buy them."

SILO---Apple TV+ renewed the series for Season 2.

GAME OF THRONES---Emilia Clarke commented on if she is returning as Daenerys Targaryen in the Jon Snow spinoff series starring Kit Harington, "I don’t think so. Kit, I love you. I’ma watch that one because of you or I’m gonna tell you that I did, but I won’t be in it. No, I don’t think so. He hasn’t called.”

KNUCKLES---the voice cast for the SONIC THE HEDGEHOG spinoff movie includes Christopher Lloyd, Cary Elwes and Idris Elba.

SUPERMAN & LOIS---due to budget problems, Dylan Walsh (Gen. Lane), Emmanuelle Chriqui (Lana Lang), Erik Valdez (Kyle Cortez) and Wole Parks (John Henry Irons) are not returning as regular cast members in Season 4, but they might return as guest stars.

DADDY BALL---Jason Bateman is the star/director of this Netflix dark comedy series based on an ESQUIRE article about Long Island fathers Bobby Sanfilippo and John Reardon, "It starts in the world of Little League baseball and expands into a Beef-like war between two small-time criminal fathers. Both Sanfilippo and Reardon have rap sheets of their own, but what went down in the summer of 2012 at Baseball Heaven will define them and their families forever. Stalking claims, threatening text messages, and an unwarranted arrest later at the heart of it all, it’s a story about the lengths fathers will go for their sons.”

TRIVIA---writer Bill Lancaster, son of Burt Lancaster, only wrote three filmed screenplays, but two of them became hit movies that were at opposite ends of the movie spectrum. Lancaster wrote the hit comedy baseball movie THE BAD NEWS BEARS starring Walter Matthau and Tatum O'Neal. He also wrote John Carpenter's classic sci fi horror movie THE THING starring Kurt Russell.
After THE THING originally bombed at the box office, Carpenter and Lancaster were fired from the horror movie FIRESTARTER based on the Stephen King novel.

Bill Lancaster wrote the screenplay for the hit comedy baseball movie THE BAD NEWS BEARS starring Walter Matthau and Tatum O'Neal.

Lancaster's only other hit screenplay was John Carpenter's classic sci fi horror movie THE THING starring Kurt Russell.

THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD---Andy Muschietti (IT, THE FLASH) will direct the DC Studios Batman movie.

CHRISTOPHER NOLAN---Warner Bros. sent Christopher Nolan a seven-figure "good faith" royalty check in an attempt to lure him back. Nolan had a long relationship with Warner Bros., but he ended the relationship after Warner Bros. decided to release its movie in theaters and on HBO Max during the pandemic. Nolan said HBO Max is, “the worst streaming service.” The royalty check is for Nolan's disappointing Warner Bros. movie TENET. Nolan's OPPENHEIMER was made with Universal Pictures.

THOR---Chris Hemwsworth commented on his future as Thor, “I’ve got to be careful how I word that because I have no idea what’s happening in the next phase. There are always conversations… Before anything is official, people throw around ideas. But officially, I don’t know.
I don’t want to continue to do it until people are so exhausted that they roll their eyes when they see me come on the screen as that character.
If an audience wants to see it, and if there’s something that we believe is exciting and fun, then great. I’ve loved being able to reinvent that character a few times. I don’t have the answer yet, but I would love to try and [figure out] how we can do that again and keep it a little unpredictable.”

THE WALKING DEAD: DEAD CITY---Jeffrey Dean Morgan commented on many fan suggestions of a romance between Negan and Maggie, "I am incredibly amused by it. I find it fascinating that people are shipping them because when I watched the show and when we were playing these scenes, what’s really fascinating is that she might kill me at any minute, or he may kill her. I thought that was more interesting than anything else. But other people look at it like, 'Oh, hey, they should be together.' We both are very amused by the whole thing."

HANNIBAL---Mads Mikkelsen commented on the chance of the horror series being revived, “There’s always a chance. It’s all about finding a home for it. Of course, we’re running out of time. We can’t wait 20 years, but in the next couple of years, if somebody finds a home, I think we are all ready to take it up again”

BILLIONS---Showtime announced the upcoming Season 7 will be the last season. Two spinoff series, MILLIONS and TRLLIONS, are underway.

PRIMAL---Adult Swim renewed the series for Season 3.

VELMA---Max renewed the series for Season 2.

IDOL---HBO denied reports the tv series has been cancelled after only two episodes, "It is being misreported that a decision on a second season of The Idol has been determined. It has not, and we look forward to sharing the next episode with you Sunday night."

TRIVIA---the Rotten Tomatoes movie review website was created by Senh Duong because he was a big fan of Jackie Chan and always thought about creating a website that would include all reviews of Chan's movies. When Chan's RUSH HOUR was about to premiere in 1998, it was the catalyst for Senh to get started on the website which took him two weeks to develop.
Rotten Tomatoes is the 593rd highest-ranked website in the world and the 254th highest-ranked website in the US.
