STAR WARS: LANDO---the ATLANTA brother team of Donald Glover and Stephen Glover will write the Disney+ tv series which has Donald Glover returning as Lando Calrissian. Writer Justin Simien left earlier to work on HAUNTED MANSION.
STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE---cast member said the upcoming Disney+ series set a century before THE PHANTOM MENACE will have lots of lightsaber battles. Manny Jacinto said, “If you loved that sequence with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan and Darth Maul, I think you’re going to enjoy this show.”
Charlie Barnett added, “I will say too — not to shade’ but we have a lot more tangible physical moves than I saw in that fight. As badass as it is, there’s a lot more grounded work that goes into our stunt training and our stunt performances.
Dafne Keen said, “I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this, but I will just say it. There’s a lack of guns, which personally, as someone who loves fighting and stunts and stuff, I love. Because it gives you that body-to-body choreography – that dance feeling. It actually looks like a real fight as opposed to just I point, and I shoot, which is kind of an easy cop-out in a way. We get a lot of that body-to-body.”
BARBIE---the Margot Robbie movie has earned an impressive $528.6 million worldwide in less than a week. By comparison, OPPENHEIMER earned $265 million in the same time period.
OPPENHEIMER---J. Robert Oppenheimer's grandson, Charles Oppenheimer, criticized the biomovie and the book it was based on for the scene in which his grandfather poisoned his professor's apple with cyanide after the professor was critical of Oppenheimer's lab work, “The part I like the least is this poison apple reference...If you read AMERICAN PROMETHEUS carefully enough, the authors say, ‘We don’t really know if it happened.’ There’s no record of him trying to kill somebody. That’s a really serious accusation and it’s historical revision. There’s not a single enemy or friend of Robert Oppenheimer who heard that during his life and considered it to be true."
He added, “Sometimes facts get dragged through a game of telephone. In the movie, it’s treated vaguely and you don’t really know what’s going on unless you know this incredibly deep backstory. So it honestly didn’t bother me. It bothers me that it was in the biography with that emphasis, not a disclaimer of, this is an unsubstantiated rumor that we want to put in our book to make it interesting.”
EYES WIDE SHUT---Academy Award-winning writer Frederick Raphael, 91, took jabs at Stanley Kubrick, Tom Cruise, Cruise's then-wife Nicole Kidman and others after co-writing the screenplay for EYES WIDE SHUT, Kubrick's last movie. In his new book, LAST POST, Raphael uses imaginary letters to criticize members of EYES WIDE SHUT. In his imaginary letter to Kubrick, Raphael took a jab at Cruise, "I have never been called a liar by anyone as I have been by the Harlan clan and by Tom Cruise, egocentric control freak to whom I have never spoken."
In another imaginary letter to Kubrick, he wrote, "Was there something just a touch naïve in your idea that casting a married couple as a married couple would enable you to put ‘the truth’ on the screen? One thing you can be pretty sure of: whatever any conjugal duo may disclose in public about their relationship, they rarely let any crucial cat out of the bag. Did you honestly suppose Cruise and Kidman were bound in genuine passion, rather than embraced in a careerist merger?"
In another letter, Raphael skewered Nicole Kidman, "Kidman has been a star for many years for many people: can you think of a single movie of hers you wanted to see again?"
Raphael also scorched Kubrick's wife/writer, Christiane Harlan, and her brother, Jan, “There has been an incessant campaign, led by the Harlans, whom I never met during the two or three years of addressing myself exclusively to you, to deny that I had anything much to do with the final version of Eyes Wide Shut...Until the Writers Guild intervened, they tried to eliminate me from the credits. The Harlans and Master Cruise have managed to insert some derogatory stuff in my Wikipedia entry."
SAW X---new photo of Billy and the synopsis released for the sequel, "It’s the untold chapter of Jigsaw’s final games. Set between the events of Saw I and II, a sick and desperate John travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer – only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. The infamous serial killer returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through devious, deranged, and ingenious traps."
