THE ROCKETEER---Eugene Ashe will write the screenplay for the Disney+ reboot of the 1991 movie starring David Oyelowo, whose synopsis says, “a retired Tuskegee airman who takes up the mantle of the Rocketeer.” The original movie starred Billy Campbell, Timothy Dalton and Jennifer Connelley.

STAR TREK: PRODIGY---Netflix has picked up the animated series after it was cancelled by Paramount+. Kate Mulgrew thanks fans for their efforts to save PRODIGY, “I’ve always held that the Star Trek fan base is among the strongest and most intelligent in the world. They have shown their collective passion, and we’re happy to be able to celebrate Prodigy once again”.

MARVEL STUDIOS---Marvel is overhauling its television-making process after fan criticism and production turmoil. Brad Winderbaum, Marvel's head of streaming, television and animation, said, “We’re trying to marry the Marvel culture with the traditional television culture. It comes down to, ‘How can we tell stories in television that honor what’s so great about the source material?'”
Marvel tv series had no pilots, no core vision and huge budgets. Problems and creative turnover have been reported with MOON KNIGHT, SECRET INVASION and SHE-HULK: ATTORNEY AT LAW. Marvel is overhauling the upcoming DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN tv series after Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige was unhappy with episodes already filmed and new writers and directors are being sought.

RICK AND MORTY---Dan Harmon aid he recently met with Warner Bros. executives to discuss a movie version, “My philosophy would be to just take a RICK AND MORTY adventure, and spend a bunch of extra money on it and make it 90 minutes long.
Not to try to earn its feature status by virtue of canonical dramatic tone shifts or anything like that, but rather to just make it a super badass episode of RICK AND MORTY… we can let our animators go nuts, and the animation can be fancier and there can be crazy sequences and stuff.”
Harmon said he met earlier with Zack Snyder, “[It wasn’t Snyder] saying, ‘I get to [direct] it,’ or anything like that. He was totally a super fan and was just like, ‘Is there any way I can help get that movie started by using my Snyder-ness?'”
Harmon then joked, “I want to start with a Snyder cut of that movie and then I want to do the director’s cut of a Snyder cut release, so we can just have a six-hour RICK AND MORTY movie and three hours of it is in black and white.”

MONARCH: LEGACY OF MONSTERS---director Matt Shakman said the Apple TV+ tv series starring Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell will introduce new monsters, "One of the great things about this was the chance to create new Titans, new monsters to add to the Monsterverse. So, that's a part of it, using folks that we know and love from before is a part of it. I don't want to say too much so that you can be excited about what you see when you watch it."

TRIVIA---the Ferrari 308 GTS became one of the famous cars in entertainment history after being driven by Tom Selleck in MAGNUM, P.I. However, Thomas Magnum was originally supposed to drive a Porsche 928, but when the tv show's producers asked Porsche to modify a 928 with an extra-large sunroof for aerial shots, Porsche replied its policy did not allow for customer-requested modifications. The producers then chose the 308 GTS which had to be modified to accommodate Selleck's 6' 4" frame.
Selleck was never impressed with the 308 GTS' performance and bought a 928 for his personal car. He also gave a 928 to his co-stars Larry Manetti, Roger E. Mosley and John Hillerman.

The Ferrari 308 GTS became one of the famous cars in entertainment history after being driven by Tom Selleck in MAGNUM, P.I.

Tom Selleck was never impressed with the 308 GTS' performance and bought a 928 for his personal car.

THE WALKING DEAD: DARYL DIXON---Norman Reedus confirmed Melissa McBride is returning for Season 2, and Season 2's new title will be THE WALKING DEAD: DARYL DIXON--THE BOOK OF CAROL.

SUITS--NBC is developing a new tv series in the same universe as the original series and might be set in Los Angeles. It is not known what network or platform will carry the new series.

COMMUNITY---Chevy Chase criticized his fellow cast members in which he said, “I didn’t mind the character. I just felt that it was … I felt happier being alone. I just didn’t want to be surrounded by that table, every day, with those people. It was too much.” Co-star Joel McHale replied, "[Chase] stopped hurting my feelings in 2009...I was like, ‘Hey, no one was keeping you there.’ I mean, we weren’t sentenced to that show. It was like, ‘All right, you could have left if you really wanted that.’ But yeah, you know Chevy. That’s Chevy being Chevy.”

THE GREAT ESCAPER---trailer released for the World War II movie starring Michael Caine which is based on a true story. Also, Caine announced this is his last movie, and he is officially retired, “Funny enough, I’d retired when I was sent the script, and I turned it down three times, but I kept falling in love with him every time I read it, and so I did it. I kept saying I’m gonna retire.
Well, I am now because I figured, I’ve had a picture where I’ve played the lead, and it’s got incredible reviews. The only parts I’m likely to get now are old men, 90-year-old men – well, maybe 85, you know? And I thought, ‘Well, I might as well leave with all this. I’ve got wonderful reviews. What am I gonna do to beat this?'”

BLUE BEETLE---the DC superhero movie earned $128.7 million worldwide in two months which is the lowest ever in the DCEU. By comparison, SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS earned $133.8 million, and WONDER WOMAN 1984 earned $169.6 million.

HALLOWEEN---Miramax Television head Marc Helwig announced it is developing a tv series based on the horror movie franchise, “We couldn’t be more excited to bring HALLOWEEN to television. We are thrilled to expand our long and successful partnership with Trancas and the brilliant Malek Akkad in introducing this iconic franchise to a new form of storytelling and a new generation of fans.”

KNIVES OUT----Rian Johnson commented on the status of the third movie in the franchise, "It’s coming along. I obviously couldn’t work during the strike, and now that it’s over, I’m diving in full force, and so it’s coming along. I’ve got the premise, I’ve got the setting, I’ve got what the movie is in my head. It’s just a matter of writing the **** thing.”

TRIVIA---more James Bond movie trivia.
In THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, Bond Villain Karl Stromberg hijacked three nuclear-powered submarines, including the USS Wayne, hull number 593. Art director Peter Lamont chose hull number 593 after he researched the numbers of operational US Navy submarines and found there was no operational 593 in 1976 when movie production began. However, after the movie premiered in 1977, a fan sent him a letter criticizing the Wayne's hull number 593 which belonged to the USS Thresher, the first Navy nuclear-powered submarine to be lost during deep-sea trials in 1963 killing all 129 men onboard. Lamont felt great remorse for his oversight.

The hijacked USS Wayne, a Royal Navy submarine and a Soviet submarine are in Bond Villain Karl Stromberg's Liparus supertanker.

ZOMBIE PLANE---Chuck Norris, Vanilla Ice and Sophie Monk will star in this comedy horror movie in which a secret government organization recruits celebrities to be secret agents to combat a zombie invasion. Producer Jessica Butland said, “Audiences can expect a wild ride. Vanilla Ice is in his element as secret agent and Chuck Norris having trained him is excellent and it just works.”

UNHOLY TRINITY---Pierce Brosnan and Samuel L. Jackson will star in this Western movie set in 1870s Montana where a man sentenced to death asks his estranged son to kill the man who framed him.

THE TRAITOR KING---Matthew Vaughn commented on the sequel to THE KING'S MAN, “The next one is about the rise of Hitler, and how Hitler did come to power and basically was supported by the English aristocracy. … So I was like, ‘Well, that’s interesting’, and how the world was worrying so much about Communism that Fascism rose up. And I look at the world at the moment, everyone getting distracted and worrying about this [and that] and if you worry too much about [this] bad things can happen here. So it is a story that I think needs to be recalled."

TOP GUN: THE NEXT GENERATION---Nat Geo docuseries underway whose synopsis says, "TOP GUN: THE NEXT GENERATION follows a group of officers as they push their limits on the grueling Advanced Flight Training Program. For the first time ever, they will be embarking on some of the most challenging flight tests possible including landing on an aircraft carrier at sea. ASSASSINATION---Barry Levinson will direct this movie about Chicago mobster Sam Giancana ordering the assassination of John F. Kennedy after Kennedy took on the mob even though the mob helped Kennedy win the presidency. The screenplay is written by David Mamet and Nicholas Celozzi (Giancana's grandnephew). Al Pacino and Shia LaBeouf will lead the cast.

ALIEN: ROMULUS---Fede Alvarez commented on Ridley Scott's reaction to his new movie starring Cailee Spaeny, “I finished the director’s cut a week ago and had to go through the incredibly tense process of obviously sending [it] to Ridley. I wanted him to see it before anybody.
And everyone gave me the heads up that Ridley is really tough. He’s really tough, particularly if it has something to do with his movies. He was really tough on “Blade Runner,” which I thought was a masterpiece, and he had issues with it because it’s really hard for him because it’s his work.
So I was like ‘there’s no way I win this one’. Even if he didn’t ask for it, I was gonna go there and sit at a table and look at him and get it. Even if he was gonna say ‘you destroyed my legacy,’ I wanted to be in front of him and see him in the eye. I didn’t want to get an email where it says Ridley says…. I was like, ‘I wanna see him, if you’ll see me, I want to talk to him right after.’
I drove there. I see his executives, who couldn’t see it with him because he wanted to watch it on his own. Because it was ALIEN. It was very important to him. He didn’t want to have anybody in the room. That makes me even more terrified while I’m waiting.
Then he walks into the room and he did say ‘Fede, what can I say? It’s f—ing great’. For me, it was like…ahhh…My family knows it was one of the best moments of my life to have a master like him, whom I admired so much, to even watch a movie I made but particularly something like this…and talk to me for an hour about what he liked about it.”

A MAN WALKS INTO A BAR---Sam Rockwell and Kumail Nanjiani will star in this dark comedy movie described as, "a mild-mannered new father (Nanjiani) befriends a charismatic yet mysterious man (Rockwell) at a bar, and soon suspects him of concealing a troubling secret."

THEM!---Michael Giacchino commented on his remake of the 1954 giant ant movie, "So, anyway, the development we’re in right now, we’re about to find our writer. We were about to make the deal, and then the writer’s strike happened. So then that went on pause, and we waited for 140-whatever days it was. So now we’re just starting up again.
THEM! was a film in the 1950s about giant ants. It was sort of discussing the oncoming nuclear age that we found ourselves in and were woefully unprepared for as human beings, and so I thought there’s so much going on in the world – that was clearly a lesson that we didn’t learn as humans – and it feels like it’s a story that could be told again today with a lot of the s— that’s going on in the world. I love that movie dearly. It’s a very special film.”

A long-lost STAR WARS X-wing fighter model used in the original 1977 movie sold for a record $3.135 million at a recent auction. The auction price broke the record set by an R2-D2 model used in the movies that sold for $2.7 million in 2017.
The 20" X-wing fighter model is one of four X-wing fighter "hero" models that had servo-controlled wings and lights that were used in scenes including the iconic "trench run" scene. It was part of the model collection of special effects model-builder Greg Jein and was found in his garage after his death. Ironically, Jein was a member of the team that was nominated for an Academy Award for the special effects UFO models used in CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND, but they lost out to the special effects team from STAR WARS.

SINISTER SIX---the new book MCU: THE REIGN OF MARVEL STUDIOS says Sony Pictures' shelved Spider-Man spinoff movie would have featured the Sinister Six composed of Gog, Doctor Octopus, The Vulture, Sandman, Mysterio and The Black Cat. It also states, "By the end of 2014, [Drew Goddard] had a draft that took Spider-Man and his villains to the Savage Land, where Spider-Man would ride a T-Rex."

WEREWOLF BY NIGHT---Michael Giacchino said he has ideas for a sequel, “There’s always talk. But, you know, until somebody decides to spend a penny, nothing happens yet. So, hopefully. My wish is that, yes, there will be more with these characters. I would love to, and I have ideas of what I would love to do with them, and it’s all crazy and nuts, but I think that’s the only way to go about it. So, hopefully, one day. Hopefully, one day.“

THE AUTHORITY---Matthew Vaughn confirmed he has talked to DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran about directing THE AUTHORITY, "DC has reached out and Gunn and Peter, we've been talking. Never say never, at the moment I'm enjoying creating my own things. The franchise is in the best hands, so let's see what happens."

In the STAR TREK episode "Wolf in the Fold", Enterprise Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott (James Doohan) is accused of murdering several women on Argelius II by chief administrator Hengist (John Fiedler). Later, it is discovered that the real serial killer is an alien entity, who has traveled among planets possessing bodies, including Jack the Ripper on Earth, and now possesses Hengist.
In reality, Doohan and Fiedler were friends and roommates early in their acting careers.

STAR WARS---Matthew Vaughn said he is not receptive to directing a STAR WARS movie now compared to the past, but if he did do a STAR WARS movie, he commented on his version, “If they said to me they’d reboot STAR WARS and actually have Luke Skywalker, Solo and Vader and do your version of it. Everyone would say you’re an idiot to try, but that would excite me.
Why are the characters so hallowed that from 1977 you can’t re-do it for a new audience? STAR WARS is the Skywalker family and that’s where I think they’ve gone wrong. They’ve forgot.They’ve done brilliantly in TV but it needs an epic new film. That’s what I would do [i.e. reboot Luke]. Everyone is going to go bat***** crazy but let’s bring it on. If you want a new generation, make the movie for them. The old generation, hopefully you make it well enough that they enjoy it.”

KATE WARNE---Emily Blunt will star in this untitled Amazon Studios biomovie about Kate Warne, the first female detective with Pinkerton National Detective Agency. Jaume Collet-Serra is the director.

BIOSHOCK---writer Michael Green commented on the status of the Netflix movie based on the video game, “You have to measure your words, or you’ll start to see a laser pointer at my forehead from the Netflix legal. Netflix has been amazing about it. They were excited about it before the strike, they’re excited about it now, post-strike. Yes, I got called, the, ‘How’s it coming along?’ the minute the strike was over, ‘You about ready … ?’ Been meeting regularly with Francis Lawrence and his team to refine a draft to go back in. We’re all optimistic. We all love it. It’s a great big sprawling nightmare world we wanna see real. So, here’s hoping. I would love to have an update for you soon.”

LOT NO. 249---Kit Harington and Freddie Fox will star in the Mark Gatiss/BBC holiday movie based on the Arthur Conan Doyle mummy short story. The synopsis says, "The story follows a group of Oxford students, one of whom undertakes research into the secrets of Ancient Egypt and becomes the talk of the college. THE PROBLEM WITH JON STEWART---the show is ending because of creative differences involving issues and guests between Jon Stewart and Apple TV+.

Dean Norris is easily recognizable as DEA Agent Hank Schrader in BREAKING BAD and BETTER CALL SAUL. However, Norris is not easily recognizable as Tony the mutant in TOTAL RECALL. In one scene, Tony confronts Quaid/Hauser (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and snarls, "You got a lot of nerve showing your face around here, Hauser," and Hauser/Quaid replies, "Look who's talking."

STAR TREK 4---Matt Shakman commented on why he left the STAR TREK sequel to direct the FANTASTIC FOUR reboot movie, "I love STAR TREK. I’m a huge STAR TREK fan – loved NEXT GENERATION when I was a kid, and then obviously reruns of the original series. Loved the movies, and the chance to play in that world was hugely exciting. And I’m a big fan of what J.J. [Abrams] has created and loved that cast. So that was hugely exciting.
It was a bummer that it didn’t end up happening with me there. I worked on it, developed the script, designed ships, had lots of great storyboards with the Enterprise, all sorts of stuff that a STAR TREK fan just loves to get to do. But movies have different momentums, and we weren’t able to move ahead into production.
I was offered this opportunity to go over to Marvel to work on FANTASTIC FOUR, and it was impossible to turn down something that was another world that I loved, and that was equally exciting, and that was already moving in the right direction. So, I hope STAR TREK 4 comes to pass. They’re working really hard on it. That cast is amazing.”

MCU---Kevin Feige's forward for the new book MARVEL STUDIOS: THE MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE-AN OFFICIAL TIMELINE has created a controversy among MCU Fans which indicates Marvel tv projects are not part of the MCU "Sacred Timeline". Feige's forward says, “On the Multiverse note, we recognize that there are stories – movies and series – that are canonical to Marvel but were created by different storytellers during different periods of Marvel’s history. The timeline presented in this book is specific to the MCU’s Sacred Timeline through Phase 4.
But, as we move forward and dive deeper into the Multiverse Saga, you never know when timelines may just crash or converge (hint, hint/spoiler alert).”
Darkhorizons.com said, "That’s pretty succinctly spelled out in the book itself which makes no real mention of the Marvel Television shows suggesting they don’t ‘count’ per se. The statement has drawn understandable reactions of anger, annoyance, frustration and excitement from the fandom."

SUPER HEROES---Matthew Vaughn said he is optimistic that DC Studios and Marvel Studios will be successful in dealing with superhero movie fatigue, “I think at least DC is under; I think James Gunn and [Peter Safran] they’ve got a good chance of popping, and hopefully, [Kevin] Feige will go back to less is more and make less films and concentrate on making them great.”
He also said, “maybe we all need a little bit of time off” from superheroes and maybe in the future, someone will “make something so great that we will get excited again”.
Vaughn liked THE FLASH, “What really freaked me out was that I really enjoyed THE FLASH. I thought it was a really good film, right? And it died at the box office, right? And I’m like, Wait, hold on, this is a good movie. What happened?
I don’t know whether that was superhero fatigue; you’ve just seen it done. So even now that we’ve made it well, there was some really, really complicated, hard, and quite special, unique filmmaking in that film. Which I don’t think Muschietti got enough credit for what they pulled off.”

THE WAGER---Martin Scorsese, 81, said he might get a co-director for his movie based on the book about the mutiny aboard the HMS Wager in 1741, "We’ll get working with writers and see if we get it on the page. And maybe it’s something I could co-direct, so to speak. It’ll be difficult [to shoot a movie out on the water.] But there are ways now, with certain technical things we could do, to make it bearable. Depending on how we get the script together."

X-MEN---Daniel Radcliffe denied rumors he will play Wolverine in the X-Men reboot movie that started because he started to work out, “I got buff because I am obsessive, and I want to… You’ve seen my parents, they’re like insane fitness people. So that’s just been passed on. But no. No Wolverine. Flattered, but no.”

SPAWN---Jason Blum commented on the upcoming movie starring Jamie Foxx, "Yes, I’m going to bring the Blumhouse edge [to SPAWN]. It’s going to be edgy and original as compared to other superhero movies. It’s gonna definitely feel like the Blumhouse version of a superhero movie.”

The sci fi movie THE INVASION, starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, was the third remake of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS. Doctors, including Dr. Carroll Bennell (Kidman) and Dr. Ben Driscoll (Craig), battle an alien bacteria plague that takes over the minds of those infected. The movie was a box office bomb, but during filming, Craig was called by James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, who told him he was the next James Bond and would star in CASINO ROYALE. Craig took a break from the INVASION filming and flew to London for the announcement.
Ironically, Jeffrey Wright co-starred with Craig in THE INVASION and CASINO ROYALE.

In THE INVASION, Dr. Carroll Bennell (Nicole Kidman), Dr. Ben Driscoll (Daniel Craig) and Dr. Stephen Galeano (Jeffrey Wright) battle an alien bacteria plague that takes over the minds of those infected.

STAR WARS---Shawn Levy commented on his STAR WARS movie, "When Kathy Kennedy brought me on board to make a STAR WARS movie, her central mandate to me was ‘I want a Shawn Levy movie. I want a story and a tone that reflects you and your taste and what you bring to your movies – with a STAR WARS story.’
So I have felt extremely empowered. We are in early days, unfortunately, because the development process was abruptly paused [due to the WGA strike], but I feel very empowered to trust my instincts in the development of this story and movie.”
Levy was asked if his movie will be a prequel to THE FORCE AWAKENS and focus on the early days of Kylo Ren, “Your words, not mine! As you know, Adam [Driver] is a buddy, and I’ve always been a huge fan of Kylo Ren. But no comment."

DOCTOR WHO---two photos were posted from the 60th anniversary specials. The first photo shows Doctor Who trying to repair the TARDIS with a sonic screwdriver. The second photo is a hint of David Tennant's possible regeneration for the 15th Doctor Who.

THE LIFE OF CHUCK---Karen Gillan, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Jacob Tremblay will co-star with Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill in the movie based on the Stephen king short story.

NOVOCAINE---Jack Quaid will star in this movie about a bank employee afflicted with CIPA (Congenital Insensitivity to Pain) and cannot feel pain, who must rescue his girlfriend who has been taken hostage by bank robbers.

FRASIER---co-showrunner Joe Cristalli said David Hyde Pierce did not want to return as Niles which led to changing the revival series' plot, "For a long time, the idea was that Frasier and Niles were going to run a black-box theater, like how they bought that restaurant and brought it back to life. But it’s hard for Frasier and Niles to run the theater when you don’t have Niles, so we had to step back from that." Cristalli added that Pierce was, “not the bad guy in this, and he was so lovely about it.”

THE THING cinematographer Dean Cundey claimed in the "Eye Gleam Theory" that real humans had a gleam in their eyes and The Thing's replicants did not. In the movie's cryptic ending, MacReady had the gleam in his eyes and Childs did not. John Carpenter commented on Cundey's claim, “He has no clue. Yes, I know. I know who’s The Thing and who’s not in the very end. [Cundey] doesn’t know. He has no idea. He puts the lights up. He puts the lights up and we were in the snow. He has no clue. You tell him that. Tell him he’s full of sh-t.”

WORLD WAR Z---David Fincher commented on his cancelled sequel, "Well, it was a little like THE LAST OF US. I'm glad that we didn't do what we were doing, because THE LAST OF US has a lot more real estate to explore the same stuff. In our title sequence, we were going to use the little parasite… they used it in their title sequence, and in that wonderful opening with the Dick Cavett, David Frost-style talk show."
When Fincher was asked if the sequel was closer to the original novel, he said it was not, but hinted a new sequel closer to the novel might be underway, "No, no. But there is some talk of doing that."

MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE---X-MEN writer/producer Simon Kinberg offered some advice to Marvel Studios' reboot movies, "If I had one piece of advice, honestly, it is a very cliché thing, but it just is true: The strength of the X-MEN is the characters. As much as there's great storytelling and great plot and incredible action sequences and all of those things are going to be required of the movies, as they are in the comics, what sets, for me, the X-MEN apart is that they are the richest collection of characters in any comic book ever... So it's really about the characters that will get you the best actors. Those actors will bring those characters to life in a whole new way that honestly I cannot wait to see. I really am such a fan of what Marvel does and I'm obviously a massive, massive fan of the X-MEN. Like the STAR WARS movies. I read two comics when I was growing up religiously. I read others, but the religious ones were for me, BATMAN and X-MEN."

MOVIE LENGTH---with acclaimed movies like KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON having being three hours and twenty-six minutes long and OPPENHEIMER being three hours long, director Alexander Payne (SIDEWAYS) said current movies are too long, “You want your movie to be as short as possible. There are too many **** long movies these days. If your movie is three-and-a-half hours, at least let it be the shortest possible version of a three-and-a-half-hour movie.
Like THE GODFATHER PART II [and] SEVEN SAMURAI are super tight, three-and-a-half-hour movies and they go by like that. So there’s no ipso facto judgment about length.
Film is a constant search for economy. You want the screenplay as short as possible. You want the acting as brisk as possible, given whatever the basic rhythm of that film is. And then in the editing you want it to be as short as it can possibly be, but no shorter.”

SEX AND ROMANCE---UCLA's Center for Scholars & Storytellers conducted a survey of 1,500 people from the ages of 10-24 on sex and romance in movies and tv. The survey found 47.5% think sex and romance is too prominent. 51.5% want more friendships and platonic relationships. 39% want more aromantic and asexual characters. 44.3% think romance is overused.
The survey's co-author, Dr. Yalda T. Uhls, said, “We know that young people are suffering an epidemic of loneliness and they’re seeking modeling in the art they consume. While some storytellers use sex and romance as a shortcut to character connection, it’s important for Hollywood to recognize that adolescents want stories that reflect the full spectrum of relationships."

BEAU IS AFRAID---Ari Aster commented on the movie starring Joaquin Phoenix earning only $11 million worldwide, "The film ends on a theater just very gradually emptying out over the credits, with a very indifferent audience. I wasn’t quite ready for just how prophetic that ending was going to be.
One thing that excites me about BEAU is that there are certain things that I buried in that film that still haven’t been talked about, and I was kind of disappointed by the way people were maybe engaging with the film on first release because it was very verdict based like, ‘Well, it doesn’t all work.’ It’s like, ‘Well, wait, what doesn’t work?’
The film is an experiment in so many ways. Even what he finds up in that attic is a very specific provocation. I’m deliberately blowing up the whole film. People talked about it as a letdown when clearly – yeah, that’s the joke! Interpret this, right?”

LISA FRANKENSTEIN---synopsis released from the comedy zombie movie directed by Zelda Williams, daughter of Robin Williams, “The film is about a misunderstood teenager and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse. Academy Award-winning composer Elmer Bernstein is best known for his scores for THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, THE GREAT ESCAPE, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD and many others. However, during the 1950s McCarthy era, Bernstein was "greylisted" because of his liberal views which resulted in him composing scores for B sci fi movies. The most dubious of these was ROBOT MONSTER in 1953 which is considered one of the worst movies ever made and featured an alien invader played by an actor wearing a gorilla suit and a diver's helmet with antennas. Also, in 1953, Bernstein composed the score for another sci fi B movie, CAT-WOMEN OF THE MOON which misspelled his name "Bernstien" in the opening credits.

Obviously a cinephile. We are working on it actively. He's actively working on the script with Michael Bacall. And our hope would be that it is a movie that, again, all fingers crossed and luck and everything else go our way, that Edgar could maybe direct next year... BATTLESTAR GALACTICA---Sam Esmail (MR. ROBOT) commented on the status of the Peacock reboot sci fi tv series, “Well, I can’t speak to the movie version, but for the TV series, we are working on it. And in fact, I just read a great outline and it’s in great shape. Because the strike is over now – at least the WGA strike is over – we’re back into developing it.”

GOOD GRADES---Josh Hartnett will star in this M. Night Shyamalan movie which involves a father and his daughter at a concert. Shyamalan's daughter, Saleka, will play a pop star.

THE AVENGERS---writer Zak Penn commented on being replaced by Joss Whedon, "All the other directors we had been talking about, Joss wasn't on the list. I heard he was going to rewrite the script himself. He didn't even want to meet with me - which, by the way, I always call the writer I'm replacing. I feel like that's courtesy."
Penn said he contacted Whedon after being replaced, "He said to me, 'No, it's not awkward for me. I'm rewriting you.' It became pretty apparent that he had less than zero interest in, in any way, having me involved with the movie."
Penn added, "I think he's a dick. I think he's a bad person, and it was really surprising. Remember, my bonus is based on my credit. So literally millions and millions of dollars, which is not the issue here, but that just came out of my pocket and went into Joss's pocket."

SHE RIDES SHOTGUN---Taron Egerton will star in this movie based on the novel about an ex-con who flees with his daughter after they are targeted by his former crime gang.

CONCEPTION---synopsis released for the dystopian sci fi movie starring Keira Knightley, "CONCEPTION is a sci-fi thriller set in the not-too-distant future of Britain, where the government has taken authoritarian rule over parenting. The film follows Rita (Knightley), a loyal civil servant and believer in the unforgiving system she upholds, until unexpected events endanger her own parental status, rendering her victim to the same laws she so readily inflicted on others.”

FANTASTIC BEASTS---director David Yates said the fantasy movie franchise is on hold, “With BEASTS for a minute, it’s all just parked. We got to the end of [the third film, FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE SECRETS OF DUMBLEDORE] and we’re all so proud of that movie, and when it went out into the world, we just needed to sort of stop and pause, and take it easy.”

I took my son to something called "Five Nights at Freddy's" a movie based on a video game. The audience was mostly a 13-20 crowd. They were in complete rapture. It is not my cup of tea but a new generation of "horror" fans via You Tube and video games. For better or worse.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 30

SNOW WHITE---Disney has delayed the premiere of the live-action remake of its classic 1937 animated movie from March 22, 2024 to March 21, 2025. Disney also released an image from the remake showing Snow White and seven CGI dwarves. An earlier photo showed seven possibly stand-ins of different genders, sizes and races which led to a wave of criticism, including Peter Dinklage, who criticized the remake for not keeping the Snow White's all-dwarf allies as in the original. Another wave of criticism began after star Rachel Zegler made negative comments about the original movie.
One entertainment reporter claimed the premiere was delayed for reshoots to answer the criticisms of the remake, "Disney has almost completely rewritten its live-action SNOW WHITE film, with extensive reshoots. The movie has been delayed by a full year from March 22, 2024 to March 21, 2025. Among the things that ended up on the cutting room floor are the ‘diverse’ dwarves, replaced now with CGI dwarves that look close to the original cartoon."

STAR WARS---Shawn Levy commented on his STAR WARS movie, "The one thing I’m allowed to say: it is not an Ewok origin story… [It’s] not as far along as I’d like. I definitely have an idea; again, a long pause, but very much re-engaging development. I mean, it’s early development."
He later added, “And, obviously, Kathy [Kennedy], and [Dave] Filoni, and all the kind of the brain trust at Lucasfilm they’re trying to juggle and coordinate a lot of pieces in film and in television, but the spirit of Kathy’s outreach to me, which was, ‘Your movies have a consistent sense of fun and warmth and that’s what we want the Shawn Levy STAR WARS movie to be. That’s what we want STAR WARS to be.’ I’m running with that mandate. It’s the only way I know how to approach the work anyway. So to play in that sandbox, it’s a blast. And every day just cooking up ideas.”
Last year, Kennedy said recent STAR WARS movies were lacking the fun of the original movies, “What I was so taken with is how much fun we were having. It amounted to this moment of realization: I do think a little bit of fun has gone out of making these gigantic movies.
The business, the stakes, everything that’s been infused in the last 10 years or so. There’s a kind of spontaneity and good time that we have to be careful to preserve. I keep holding on to: It better be fun."

SICARIO 3---producer Molly Smith said she is hopeful that the sequel will reunite the original cast of Benecio Del Toro, Emily Blunt and Josh Brolin, “Our idea is to get the cast back together with Benicio, Emily, and Josh, and we’ve got a great story to tell…Benicio, by nature of just working with us most recently, has been probably the closest to it at the moment.”

CONSTANTINE 2---director Francis Lawrence commented on the sequel to the 2005 Keanu Reeves movie, "Those kinds of dark DC characters, Vertigo characters, have bounced around, and we’ve tried to gain control. We finally have, and Keanu, I, and Akiva Goldsman, who did the movie together originally, are batting around ideas, but we got sort of halted by the strike. However, we are actively coming up with ideas to create a part two, and it will be very rated R... this is an older version of John Constantine."

POLTERGEIST---Amazon MGM Studios is developing a tv series based on the 1982 horror movie that " will be set within the world of the film."

LEVON'S TRADE---Jason Statham will play Levon Cade in this action movie written by Sylvester Stallone and directed by David Ayer. The synopsis says, “He wants to live a simple life and be a good father to his daughter. But when his boss’s teenage daughter Jenny vanishes, he’s called upon to re-employ the skills that made him a legendary figure in the shadowy world of black ops. His hunt for the missing college student takes him deep into the heart of a sinister criminal conspiracy creating a chain reaction that will threaten his new way of life.“

NOW YOU SEE ME 3---Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Morgan Freeman are returning for the sequel.

BLUMHOUSE HORROR---TRUE DETECTIVE creator Nic Pizzolatto said he has written a horror movie screenplay for Blumhouse Productions, “Blumhouse contracted me to write and direct a horror movie, which I gave them the script for last week. It’s kind of an occult detective story.
But I just took a meeting with them once and we just kind of shot the ***** and we had some common friends and we were wrapping up and Couper [Samuelson], the VP of Blumhouse, said, ‘Look, if you ever have an idea for a horror movie…’

Always enjoy these movie updates.

Hoping Constantine 2 is made, the original remains one of my favorite movies. It was underrated at the time, but is now recognized for its true worth. Same with On Her Majestys Secret Service, which now enjoys a higher profile in the Bond franchise.

As for Snow White, surprise surprise, apparently people don't like the classics being messed with. Makes me wonder how these movie 'experts' receive so much money, when they're clearly making stupid decisions.

AVENGERS---Marvel Studios is in early talks to develop a new AVENGERS movie with the original cast. This would involve resurrecting Iron Man and Black Widow who were killed off earlier. A major obstacle to the new movie would be the budget---Robert Downey, Jr. was paid $25 million for IRON MAN 3.

THE FLASH---Nicolas Cage commented on his cameo as Superman, “When I went to the picture, it was me fighting a giant spider. I did not do that. That was not what I did. I don’t think it was [created by] AI. I know Tim [Burton] is upset about AI, as I am. It was CGI, OK, so that they could de-age me, and I’m fighting a spider. I didn’t do any of that, so I don’t know what happened there.”
Cage said he was on the film set for "maybe three hours" and added, “What I was supposed to do was literally just be standing in an alternate dimension, if you will, and witnessing the destruction of the universe. Kal-El was bearing witness [to] the end of a universe, and you can imagine with that short amount of time that I had, what that would mean in terms of what I can convey. I had no dialogue [so had to] convey with my eyes the emotion. So that’s what I did.”

ROBIN AND THE HOOD---Gwendoline Christie (GAME OF THRONES, Naomie Harris (SKYFALL), Mark Williams (HARRY POTTER) and Darcey Ewart will star in this movie whose synopsis says, “Robin and the Hood follows the tenacious 11-year-old Robin (Ewart) and her loyal band of friends, called The Hoods, for whom the patch of overgrown scrubland at the end of their cul-de-sac is a magical kingdom. BLADE---movie insider Jeff Sneider said a top Marvel Studios executive, who was in charge of BLADE, was fired after Mahershala Ali threatened to leave the movie over the script, “There were allegations about Blade being the fourth lead in one of the drafts. I’ve gotten pushback on that, I don’t know if that’s 100 percent accurate; although, here’s what one source said …. I really don’t want to name the person, but I’m told when the executive, who is working on BLADE … Basically, he tried to obscure what was going to be in this draft from [writer] Stacy Osei-Kuffour. He either intentionally tried to obfuscate what the draft was going to entail or, as another source put it, he didn’t sound the alarm on the process or about what trouble the project was in. I’m told that he was fired. Another source said it was a parting of the ways."
He added, “I pushed back against that because who leaves Marvel? This is the dream job for most geek executives … My source said, Marvel didn’t comment on anything about this, but they said it’s one of the few times they ever heard Kevin Feige yell at someone … so the executive on BLADE is no longer with Marvel and that is confirmed.”
Sneider also commented on the new writer, Michael Green (LOGAN), “My source said that Michael Green, it’s in good hands with him. They feel like he has a good handle on BLADE and they’re really committed to getting that right.”

YELLOWSTONE---Paramount+ has greenlit two new spinoff series. The spinoff starring Matthew McConaughey has the working title of "2024", and the other spinoff has the working title of "1944", which led to speculation it has a World War II setting.

DOCTOR WHO---the BBC released a photo of Neil Patrick Harris as villain Celestial Toymaker for the 60th anniversary specials.
Also, the episodes "The Daleks" which were the first to feature the Daleks and ran from December, 1963 to February, 1964 will be colorized and return on November 23, 2023 as part of the 60th anniversary specials.

VETERAN---Michael Mann is developing a remake of the South Korean movie about a police detective who takes on a billionaire corporate family that buys the heir out of constant legal problems.

LOKI---Season 2 premiere drew 446 million minutes which is a 39% drop from 2021's premiere of 731 million minutes.

SUPERMAN & LOIS---CW announced that the upcoming Season 4 will be the last season.

PRISON BREAK---Hulu is developing a new series set in the same universe as the original series. Elgin James (MAYANS M.C.) is the writer/show runner.

FUTURAMA---Hulu renewed the series for two more seasons.

STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS---creator Mike McMahon said he wants a LOWER DECKS movie, “I have an idea for an animated LOWER DECKS movie. I have ideas for live-action LOWER DECKS movies. And I have ideas for brand new, totally original STAR TREK movies that don’t tie into anything we’ve seen before.
I think STAR TREK is an amazing genre to think about. I love the idea of not micro but small-budget STAR TREK movies, where you get the bigness of a movie set, but you get to tell a STAR TREK story that drives across a moment instead of a thing that has to be dealt with, like a Khan.
I think there are cool ways to make STAR TREK movies that aren’t quite like the Marvel system and aren’t quite like DC or the superheroes in general, but I would love a world where there’s going to be STAR TREK movies all the time, and when you go, you don’t know which crew it’s going to be about or if it’s going to be a comedy or suspense or a drama.”
