STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE---showrunner Leslye Headland commented on fan criticism that THE ACOLYTE is too gay, “I was surprised by the question. Amandla [Stenberg] and I just burst out laughing because that’s our knee-jerk reaction to being asked that, but to be honest, I don’t know what the term ‘gay’ means in that sense. I don’t believe that I’ve created queer, with a capital Q, content.
Honestly, I feel sad that people would think that if something were gay, that that would be bad. It makes me feel sad that a bunch of people on the internet would somehow dismantle what I consider to be the most important piece of art that I’ve ever made.”
She commented on fan claims that witches Mother Aniseya and Mother Koril are a lesbian couple, “They’re in a matriarchal society. As a gay woman, I knew it would read that their sexuality is queer, but there also aren’t any men in their community.
So a closeness between the two of them would be natural. It seemed plot-driven. I would say it’s really reductive to call them lesbians. I think it means you’re not really paying attention to this story.
I’m proud of being a gay woman who’s accomplished this feat, and certainly, if my content is called queer, I don’t want to disown whatever queerness is in the show. I would be proud to create something that inspired queer people.”

CHINATOWN---Robert Towne, writer of the original classic movie's script, commented on the status of the David Fincher/Netflix prequel series about the early days of Jake Gittes and fellow LAPD officer Lou Escobar, “All I’m likely to say is yes, all the episodes have been written for Netflix. Working with a force of nature like David Fincher, though occasionally humbling, is never less than enlightening.”

CHINATOWN-1-A-FOTOR.jpg

THE FANTASTIC FOUR---the reboot movie's main villains are Galactus and the Shalla-Bal version of Silver Surfer, but sources claim lesser villains will be in the movie's first act.
Also, Jessica Alba commented on playing Sue Storm in the 2005 FANTASTIC FOUR, “It’s nothing but fond memories. I loved it so much playing that character. I feel like my whole life started in a lot of ways at that moment.
I met my life partner, we’re still together, we have three kids. Tim Story, who directed, is still one of my best friends. We have New Year’s Eve together.
It was great and she was such a cool, inspiring character and ahead of her time, I would say, in the genre. And still, you still haven’t seen someone who is so nurturing and feminine, but then also a fearsome badass. I haven’t seen that combination again.
And so I think she still fills this beautiful kind of space or void in the Marvel universe.”

SPIDER-MAN---movie insider Jeff Sneider said Sony Pictures is developing a live-action Mike Morales spinoff movie.

DCU---Pom Klementieff (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, VOL. 2, AVENGERS) was asked if she is switching from the MCU to James Gunn's DCU, “Do you really think I’m going to answer that question. I just want to keep working with James, so we’re going to keep trying to find ways to do that. Yes, we’ve been talking about one specific character, but I can’t talk about that right now.”

THE WIVES---Jennifer Lawrence will star in the Apple Original Studios murder mystery movie inspired by REAL HOUSEWIVES.

JAMES---Taika Waititi is in negotiations to direct the Universal Pictures movie based on the novel ERASURE which is a reimagining of THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN.

UNTAMED---Eric Bana and Sam Neill will star in the Netflix miniseries whose synopsis says, “The character-driven mystery thriller follows Eric Inman (Bana), a special agent for the National Parks Service who works to enforce human law in nature’s vast wilderness. The investigation of a brutal death sends Inman on a collision course with the dark secrets within the park, and in his own past.”

28 YEARS LATER---the sequel's title is 28 YEARS LATER PART II: THE BONE TEMPLE according to a copyright registration.

TRIVIA---the first feature-length inflight movie was THE LOST WORLD shown on the Imperial Airways flight from London to Paris on April 6, 1925 and was watched by the flight's 12 passengers. Music for the movie was provided by the live Berlin Philharmonic orchestra which was transmitted to the airliner by radio from the Berlin Broadcasting Station and heard on a single loudspeaker. The airliner was a Handley Page W.8 that was converted from the British Type O/400 bomber that, ironically, dropped bombs on Germany in World War I.

SHREK 5---Eddie Murphy said the fifth movie is underway and a standalone is also underdevelopment, “We started doing... [SHREK] 5 months ago. I did this, I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year, we’ll finish it up. SHREK is coming out, and Donkey’s gonna have his own movie. We’re gonna do Donkey as well. So we’re gonna do a SHREK, and we’re doing a Donkey [movie].”

SHREK-FOTOR.jpg

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 6---producer Jerry Bruckheimer commented on the status of the sequel, "We have a script that's being written right now. Hopefully it'll come in in a month or so, and it'll be as good as I think it will be. So let's hope that Disney likes it and they give us an opportunity to make it."

MURDER 101---Jon Watts will direct the movie based on the true podcast about a Tennessee teacher and his students who helped capture a local serial killer.

THE BREED---the FALL stars Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey will reunite for another survival movie in the remake of Wes Craven's 2006 movie in which two women helping stray dogs on a remote island are attacked by a pack of deadly dogs.

ANDOR---Ben Mendelsohn will return as Orson Krennic in Season 2.

THE AGENCY---Michael Fassbender will star in the George Clooney/Showtime series remake of the French spy series THE BUREAU. Fassbender plays an undercover CIA agent who is recalled to London when his girlfriend left behind reappears leading to danger and intrigue.

BLADE---Mia Goth commented on the delays that have plagued the reboot movie, "They really care, they do. They want to make a great movie. That’s the sense that I get from them and that feels good.”

TRIVIA---Andrea Dromm was a successful New York model with the Eileen Ford Agency in 1963 when she decided to become an actress and moved to California. She got her first acting job when Gene Roddenberry hired her to play Yeoman Smith in the STAR TREK pilot "Where No Man Has Gone Before". Desilu Studios Executive in Charge of Production Herb Solow recalled, "Model Andrea Dromm, also fitting the mold [i.e. being cute, shapely, bubbly and not too bright, at least for Gene Roddenberry according to Solow], came aboard for the second pilot as Yeoman Smith. Actually, it was a non-part. But during the casting process, director Jimmy Goldstone overheard Gene say, 'I'm hiring her because I want to score with her.' It was not only a non-part, I'm sure it was a non-score as well." Dromm later commented, "I had no problems with Gene at all. I thought he was a very nice man."
Dromm also commented on her fellow cast members, "William Shatner was very pleasant and professional. Gary Lockwood and Sally Kellerman were guest stars in the pilot. Gary was especially friendly and helpful, because there were a lot of things I had to react to without dialog, like the ship rocking, and I did not know what to do..." Dromm was paid $450 for appearing in the pilot.
Dromm then was offered the role of Carl Reiner's beautiful babysitter in the comedy movie THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING which also starred Alan Arkin, Brian Keith and Eva Marie Saint, "I was offered a role in THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING. They told me that you either do the film or the series. I chose the film, but if I had known that STAR TREK would become such a phenomenon, I probably would have opted for the series. But this episode was still only a pilot. Not only did nobody know if it was going to be picked up as a series, but nobody had a clue that it was going to turn out as big as it did. In fact, William Shatner told me that if the show didn't hit, he didn't know what he was going to do. Since STAR TREK was only a pilot, they could keep you under option for six months and change your character, or even worse, drop you from the show. You had no guarantee that they would sign you for the series. I thought doing the movie would be more exciting and a great thing to do. That was a choice I had to make and you can't look back." However, Solow said budget problems led to two pilot characters being cut for the tv series: Yeoman Smith and Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott, played by James Doohan (later, Doohan's agent persuaded Roddenberry to reinstate "Scotty" back to the cast).
After Dromm decided not to return to STAR TREK, she was replaced by Grace Lee Whitney as Yeoman Janice Rand. Dromm's acting career never took off, so she returned to modelling.

IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD---Eddie Murphy said he is developing a remake of the 1963 comedy movie, “I’m trying to do a remake of that movie...It’s one of my favorite movies of all time and if I do it, if the script turns out right, it’s gonna be a cast of all the who’s who of comedians. Anybody that was funny over the last 30 years is going to be in this movie.” The writer is Jez Butterworth (EDGE OF TOMORROW). The original movie starred Spencer Tracy, Sid Caesar, Milton Berle, Jonathan Winters, Phil Silvers, Mickey Rooney, Edie Adams and Terry-Thomas.

STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE---FORBES magazine reported the female-led tv series is not female-led behind the scenes, "Documents filed by Disney have revealed that its latest Star Wars spinoff series The Acolyte isn't a force for equality despite famously featuring a female-centric cast.
According to the filings, in early April last year, when production of the streaming series was still in full swing, just 30% of the 695 employees are women. Across the entire workforce, women's average hourly pay was 19.4% lower than men’s."

ACOLYTE-2-FOTOR.jpg

THE FANTASTIC FOUR---Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said, "We start shoting at the end of July". He also commented on when the reboot movie is set, "Yes, yes, very much so. It is a period. There were a lot of smart people, who noticed that that cityscape didn't look exactly like the New York that we know, or that existed in the '60s in our world. Those are smart observations, I'll say."

CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD---Giancarlo Esposito hinted about his character's identity, "In my other life, I'm a real badass, and you've seen me play a little bit of that intellectually as Gus Fring, but when you see me in the MCU, you're going to see a badass, and I'm excited for that. Acting is using every part of your body, your emotions, your senses, your feelings, to portray something. But you haven't seen me use my body in a way that I'll be using it. The MCU's exciting; I can't tell you who I'm playing, but you're going to be excited when you see."

EARTH ABIDES---MGM+ tv series based on the novel about survivors of a global plague.

INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE---AMC renewed the series for Season 3.

SNATCHBACK---PRISON BREAK stars Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller reunite for the tv series whose synopsis says, “Inspired by the life of a real covert intelligence officer who is still active in the field today, the series follows a highly skilled privately contracted team of operatives as they recover hostages across the globe from some of the most exotic, and equally dangerous locations on the planet.”

TRIVIA---the 1958 low budget sci fi movie IT! THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE is probably best remembered as an inspiration for ALIEN. The plot, set in 1973, has a spaceship landing on Mars to determine the fate of the first spaceship that landed on the planet. The sole survivor of the first crew is the spaceship's commander, who is accused of killing his crew so he could have their food and water for himself, but he claims a deadly Martian creature killed his crew. No one believes him, until the Martian creature, which entered the second spaceship, begins to prey on its crew.
Female lead star Shawn Smith was constantly in a bad mood during filming for being stuck in a low budget sci fi movie. The movie's low budget could not afford to make futuristic weapons to battle the Martian creature, so the crew used existing props of vintage weapons such as the Colt 1911 pistol (1911), the M1 Garand rifle (1937) and the Bazooka (1942).

FREAKY FRIDAY 2---Lindsay Lohan commented on the sequel, “It’s much freakier than you would expect. There’s been a lot of love, a lot of fun, and a lot of laughs on set. It’s been a great experience. I can’t say much [about the plot] but I am taking guitar lessons and I do have a daughter in the movie.”

TRIVIA---Peter Lorre co-starred with Humphrey Bogart in the classic movies THE MALTESE FALCON and CASABLANCA. In 1977, Lorre's daughter, Catharine, was walking home at night when she was stopped by "Hillside Strangler" Kenneth Bianchi and his accomplice/cousin Angelo Buono, who were posing as undercover police officers. They asked Catharine to get into their car in order to kidnap, rape and kill her, but she refused and told them she was Peter Lorre's daughter and proved it by showing them a photo of herself sitting on her father's lap. The serial killers were fans of Peter Lorre, so they let her go. Only after Bianchi and Buono were arrested and their photos published did Catharine realize who the two men really were.
Catharine died of complications from diabetes in 1985 when she was 32 years old. The two serial killers were convicted of kidnapping, torturing, raping and murdering ten women. Bianchi is serving a life sentence in the Washington State Penitentiary, and Buono died of a heart attack in prison in 2002.

Of course, I love playing Star-Lord, and hopefully there's a chance that I can come back. I just feel so blessed to be able to do any of it, to be considered for any of it. If it's right and the fans would love it, I'd be more than happy to do it."
He also commented on what DC character he would like to play, "I just have to leave that to the fans and people like James to decide. 'm not exactly sure. I'm truly not sure."

SUPERMAN-2-FOTOR.jpg

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE HUNT FOR GOLLUM---Andy Serkis commented on the new movie, “THE HUNT FOR GOLLUM is a work-in-progress title. It may not end up being called that. It’s going to very much be the world of Middle Earth according to Gollum’s experience of it. It is so early; it would be unfair to commit to anything at this point. But I will say that it will be a deep dive where we investigate Gollum’s character. There may be characters that we recognize that might be coming back. I’m not going to say who.”

AVENGERS 5---movie insider Jeff Sneider claims Marvel Studios rejected an offer from co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo to return for the new sequel.

STAR WARS---Joel Edgerton said Lucasfilm should listen to STAR WARS fans, ”There are STAR WARS fans who could write a better STAR WARS TV show than you could imagine because they’ve studied it like the Bible and they’ve imagined all the threads and they know the histories of all the characters. I think it’s worth listening to fans because someone out there is going to go, ‘What if this?’ And you go, ‘Oh, I want to watch that.”

ORION---Drew Van Acker, Andrew McCarthy and Karin Ann star in the sci fi movie whose synopsis says, “The story centers around a heated interrogation between a U.S. Intelligence expert tasked to help an amnesiac astronaut recover his memory in order to determine ‘who’ or ‘what’ killed the rest of the crew before they crash landed back on Earth.”

A VICIOUS CIRCLE---Universal Pictures movie underway based on the graphic novel about an assassin from the future. Ryan Coogler is the director.

NETFLIX---Netflix cancelled two series, HORIZON: ZERO DAWN and ORBITAL, that were being developed by Steve Blackman (THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY) due to accusations of toxicity, bullying, retaliation and punitive actions.

HORROR MOVIES---MaXXXine writer/director Ti West commented on why the Academy Awards and other major awards ignore horror movies, "You know, I think that kind of depends on how much awards mean to you. I think it’s a subjective thing that one award might mean something to somebody but it might not mean anything to someone else. Like the Oscars might be very important for one group of filmmakers and then the Palme d’Or might be very important to others. So, it’s hard to really encapsulate what any of that really means, because it’s different for everybody.”

THE EXORCIST---Mike Flanagan is developing a reboot of the classic horror movie and is also developing a movie based on THE LIFE OF CHUCK, Stephen King's novella.

OUTER RANGE---Amazon Prime cancelled the series.

THE COMPLETE MADE-UP ADVENTURES OF DICK TURPIN---Apple TV+ renewed the series for Season 2.

A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE---director Michael Sarnoski commented on a possible sequel to the prequel, “Absolutely. I Bet you will. But I don’t know — at this point, I’m just recovering from making this one. So I’m sure Paramount will come up with something very fun next."
Sarnoski also commented on what he would like in a sequel, “What attracted me to this story was the uniqueness of Sam, following this dying person who isn’t even really fighting for survival. So, I would want to see something similarly off-beat, like an unexpected character in this world. The QUIET PLACE universe does open itself up to any characters that you want to follow and want to explore. I’m not sure. I put so much into Sam and Eric. That was all the love and care that I had right now to find these characters. I would have to think of a character that I could really fall in love with and really want to be surprised by seeing the world through their eyes.”

STAR TREK: GENERATIONS---Walter Koenig criticized how Captain Kirk was killed in STAR TREK: GENERATIONS and compared it to Commodore Matt Decker's (William Windom) death in the STAR TREK episode "The Doomsday Machine", "It makes me think [of] STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION's first movie… the way they wrote off Captain Kirk was, I think, just unforgivable. He should have died trying to save the ship… He dies on a bridge or something, and he falls down, and he’s dead. If they’re going to kill off somebody as important as Captain Kirk, then it should be heroic.
Now, WIlliam Windom, his mind is going and he’s in bad shape, but at least you understand why he’s doing this and you can feel for him. He has an extraordinary sense of guilt because his crew was all killed. Now, I really think it wouldn’t have taken that much… that Kirk should have had a heroic ending. Could’ve, should’ve. If he was going to die, he should have died trying to save the ship or something of that nature."

I didn’t think that Bond would be successful in the movies. That was one of the greatest mistakes of my career! Every time a new Bond picture became a smash hit, I tore out my hair. Cubby and I have laughed about it ever since.” Sean Connery was picked to play James Bond in DR. NO.

SPIDER-MAN NOIR---Nicolas Cage commented on the Amazon Prime tv series, “The fantasy would be that I could try to aspire to be something more Golden Age. You know, something more like James Cagney or Humphrey Bogart. Or Hedy Lamarr or Bette Davis. I wanted to have that kind of aura, you know, like the more enigmatic, you don’t know too much. That’s why I’m not on social media. That’s the thinking, anyway. I don’t know. We’ll see what happens if I do this Amazon show, and they put me in black-and-white. We’ll see if we can get some of that flavor.“
He added, “Forty-five minutes. I mean, it’s eight episodes. So it’s the equivalent of four movies in five months. And I’ve got another movie I’ve gotta prepare for, and then a movie right after it…One of the things that I like about this potential show is that it’s fantasy. It’s not really people beating people up. Monsters are involved.“

CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD---Marvel Studios changed superhero Sabra, who was Mossad agent Ruth Bat-Seraph, to a former agent in the Soviet Black Widow program, the same as Scarlett Johansson's character. Bat-Seraph is played by Israeli actress Shira Haas. Apparently Marvel caved in to anti-Israeli critics who protested Sabra's Israeli background. Culture critic Brianna Wu said Marvel's changing Sabra's background was due to "political expediency" and added, “Marvel had no issue with ignoring the morons for Black Panther. And even though Marvels was awful, they stuck to their guns. Guess Jews don’t count.”

Britain’s chief meteorological officer James Stagg (Andrew Scott) is called upon to deliver the most consequential forecast in history, locking him into a tense standoff with the entire Allied leadership. The wrong conditions could devastate the largest ever seaborne invasion, while any delay risks German intelligence catching on. With only his trusted aide Captain Kay Summersby to confide in, and haunted by a catastrophic D-Day rehearsal, the final decision rests with Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower. With only hours to go, the fate of the war and the lives of millions hang in the balance.”

STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE---showrunner Leslye Headland confirmed that Darth Plagueis was the one watching from the cave at the episode's end, “This should not feel like a display of power, this should feel creepy. I think we achieved that. I thought it was important that he be in the cave because, you know, the call’s coming from inside the house. He’s already there in a very intrusive way. So, that was the thought around that. But yeah, baby, Plagueis.”
She hinted at the future, “What I think is going on with Plagueis is that he also knows this has happened. He also is aware, or will quickly become aware of this aspect of the Force existing. This is why I gotta say I disagree with the criticism of, ‘Well, so and so didn’t have it, and Palpatine… Why do these women have it?’ First of all, we’re in a completely different part of the timeline. Second of all, if I’m going to tell the story of Plagueis, which I would love to do, like, absolutely love to do, him pursuing that power is so much more interesting as a storyline than him already having it."

TRADING PLACES 2---Dan Aykroyd said he might resurrect his sequel to the 1983 comedy movie which co-starred Eddie Murphy, "I did write a treatment that takes place in the Caribbean with Eddie as a hedge fund billionaire banker who comes to help old Lewis out with a problem", but Paramount Pictures was not interested. Aykroyd said he might try again now that Paramount is under new management, "You know what — I should resend that. I know that Paramount has a new administration. That’s a good idea."

24---producer Brian Grazer and 20th Century Studios are in the early stages of developing a movie based on the 24 tv series that starred Kiefer Sutherland as counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer.

TRADING PLACES 2

HALO---Paramount+ cancelled the series. Amblin Television will shop it to other outlets.

Ironically, in 1970, Dobtcheff appeared in Blake Edwards' World War I romantic comedy DARLING LILI where he played German army henchman Otto Krause, who was accidentally killed in a train by German fighter planes while fighting over a pistol with a German spy played by Julie Andrews and a German army officer played by Jeremy Kemp.

TWISTERS---the movie beat expectations with an impressive $80.5 million domestic premiere weekend.
Director Lee Isaac Chung said the movie's final scene had a kiss between Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones which was deleted based on producer Steven Spielberg's note, “I feel like audiences are in a different place now in terms of wanting a kiss or not wanting a kiss. I actually tried the kiss, and it was very polarizing – and it’s not because of their performance of the kiss. This [no-kiss shot] was the other option that I had filmed on the day, and I got to say, ‘I like it better. I think it’s a better ending.’
If it ends on the kiss, then it makes it seem as though that’s what Kate’s journey was all about – to end up with a kiss. But instead, it’s better that it ends with her being able to continue doing what she’s doing with a smile on her face.”
Edgar-Jones said, “I think it’s a Spielberg note, wasn’t it? I think it stops the film feeling too clichéd, actually. I think there’s something really wonderful about it feeling like there’s a continuation. This isn’t the end of their story. They’re united by their shared passion for something.”
Powell added, “I feel like a kiss would be sort of unrepresentative of the right goal at the end of the movie. And it is a good Spielberg note. It’s why that kid is still in this game. It’s amazing.”

PRESSURE---Brendan Fraser will play Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower in the D-Day movie whose synopsis says, “In the 72 hours leading up to D-Day, all the pieces are in place except for one key element — the British weather. Britain’s Chief Meteorological Officer James Stagg is called upon to deliver the most consequential forecast in history, locking him into a tense standoff with the entire Allied leadership. STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE---showrunner Leslye Headland commented on if she has heard there will be Season 2, "Nothing."
She added, “You have to take a break. Especially after something like this. I don’t even know how many years my brain has been going, STAR WARS, STAR WARS, STAR WARS, ACOLYTE, ACOLYTE, ACOLYTE – just constantly solving problems, constantly thinking about it.
It is very weird to now be in a place where I don’t need to do that. I always say to budding writers, ‘The most important thing that you can do is sit around and do nothing. Because the second you start to manufacture a story, you’re going to get stressed out, and the story can’t start that way.'”
Headland said a Season 2 would include more of the Republican Senate, “A generation or two generations have gone by since the Nihil. There was a lot of drama, so it was just logical to me that there would be more of this button-down [idea]: ‘We’re trying to avoid the mistake. Let’s limit the power. Let’s do that before someone asks us to.’ And it was just logical to me to show Vernestra as the bridge for that.”

SPIDER-MAN 3---Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said director Jon Watts is not returning for the new sequel, “We love Jon. Jon did three of the best Spider-Man films ever for us. He’s got lots of things going on now. So we’ll probably be looking for somebody else, just because he’s busy.”

SPAWN---the official title for the reboot movie starring Jamie Foxx is KING SPAWN. The synopsis says, “NYPD detective Twitch Williams investigates a series of grisly murder scenes, perpetrated by the mysterious supernatural vigilante Spawn."

JURASSIC WORLD---the title for the reboot movie starring Scarlett Johansson is reportedly JURASSIC WORLD: REBIRTH.

NOBODY 2---Bob Odenkirk and Sharon Stone will star in the sequel to the 2021 movie. No plot details were released.

THIS IS SPINAL TAP 2---Rob Reiner commented on the status of the sequel, “It’s going good. Our first screening for our family and friends will be probably in August. And then sometime in September, we’ll start showing it to distributors, and we’re hoping to have it out sometime late spring or early summer of next year.”

SUITS: L.A.---NBC ordered the spinoff series starring Stephen Amell, who plays high-powered Los Angeles attorney Ted Black.

MY ADVENTURES WITH SUPERMAN---Adult Swim announced Season 3 is underway.

TRIVIA---Ray Harryhausen's 20 MILLION MILES TO EARTH includes the classic battle between the Venusian Ymir and a Rome zoo elephant. Ironically, the Ymir's roar is really an elephant's roar that was sped up and modulated at different pitches and rates.
