SUPERMAN---photos from the Cleveland film set show a photo of Superman (David Corenswet) on the cover of the DAILY PLANET stopping a train and a photo of Superman on the cover of the METROPOLIS EAGLE saving 20 people after a building collapsed. Also, reportedly one scene involves an alien spaceship landing in front of the DAILY PLANET.
STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE---showrunner Leslye Headland commented on fan criticism that THE ACOLYTE is too gay, “I was surprised by the question. Amandla [Stenberg] and I just burst out laughing because that’s our knee-jerk reaction to being asked that, but to be honest, I don’t know what the term ‘gay’ means in that sense. I don’t believe that I’ve created queer, with a capital Q, content.
Honestly, I feel sad that people would think that if something were gay, that that would be bad. It makes me feel sad that a bunch of people on the internet would somehow dismantle what I consider to be the most important piece of art that I’ve ever made.”
She commented on fan claims that witches Mother Aniseya and Mother Koril are a lesbian couple, “They’re in a matriarchal society. As a gay woman, I knew it would read that their sexuality is queer, but there also aren’t any men in their community.
So a closeness between the two of them would be natural. It seemed plot-driven. I would say it’s really reductive to call them lesbians. I think it means you’re not really paying attention to this story.
I’m proud of being a gay woman who’s accomplished this feat, and certainly, if my content is called queer, I don’t want to disown whatever queerness is in the show. I would be proud to create something that inspired queer people.”
CHINATOWN---Robert Towne, writer of the original classic movie's script, commented on the status of the David Fincher/Netflix prequel series about the early days of Jake Gittes and fellow LAPD officer Lou Escobar, “All I’m likely to say is yes, all the episodes have been written for Netflix. Working with a force of nature like David Fincher, though occasionally humbling, is never less than enlightening.”
THE FANTASTIC FOUR---the reboot movie's main villains are Galactus and the Shalla-Bal version of Silver Surfer, but sources claim lesser villains will be in the movie's first act.
Also, Jessica Alba commented on playing Sue Storm in the 2005 FANTASTIC FOUR, “It’s nothing but fond memories. I loved it so much playing that character. I feel like my whole life started in a lot of ways at that moment.
I met my life partner, we’re still together, we have three kids. Tim Story, who directed, is still one of my best friends. We have New Year’s Eve together.
It was great and she was such a cool, inspiring character and ahead of her time, I would say, in the genre. And still, you still haven’t seen someone who is so nurturing and feminine, but then also a fearsome badass. I haven’t seen that combination again.
And so I think she still fills this beautiful kind of space or void in the Marvel universe.”
SPIDER-MAN---movie insider Jeff Sneider said Sony Pictures is developing a live-action Mike Morales spinoff movie.
DCU---Pom Klementieff (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, VOL. 2, AVENGERS) was asked if she is switching from the MCU to James Gunn's DCU, “Do you really think I’m going to answer that question. I just want to keep working with James, so we’re going to keep trying to find ways to do that. Yes, we’ve been talking about one specific character, but I can’t talk about that right now.”
THE WIVES---Jennifer Lawrence will star in the Apple Original Studios murder mystery movie inspired by REAL HOUSEWIVES.
JAMES---Taika Waititi is in negotiations to direct the Universal Pictures movie based on the novel ERASURE which is a reimagining of THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN.
UNTAMED---Eric Bana and Sam Neill will star in the Netflix miniseries whose synopsis says, “The character-driven mystery thriller follows Eric Inman (Bana), a special agent for the National Parks Service who works to enforce human law in nature’s vast wilderness. The investigation of a brutal death sends Inman on a collision course with the dark secrets within the park, and in his own past.”
28 YEARS LATER---the sequel's title is 28 YEARS LATER PART II: THE BONE TEMPLE according to a copyright registration.
TRIVIA---the first feature-length inflight movie was THE LOST WORLD shown on the Imperial Airways flight from London to Paris on April 6, 1925 and was watched by the flight's 12 passengers. Music for the movie was provided by the live Berlin Philharmonic orchestra which was transmitted to the airliner by radio from the Berlin Broadcasting Station and heard on a single loudspeaker. The airliner was a Handley Page W.8 that was converted from the British Type O/400 bomber that, ironically, dropped bombs on Germany in World War I.
