MAD MAX---George Miller said he is working on another prequel set one year before FURY ROAD, “In doing what we did in the preparation of MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, we also wrote what happened to Max in the year before we encounter him in [that film]. And as we get towards the end of [FURIOSA], the chronology, basically, we had to see that Mad Max was lurking around somewhere because we do know what happened. The writers know what happened to Mad Max in that year before, and we have a whole story of that, which I would like to do sometime if I get the chance.”
He added, “Well, we are certainly working on it. And as I say, we wrote that basically as a novella, and now we’ve got a chance, we will get that into a screenplay form, and then we’ll take it from there.”

THE POPE'S EXORCIST---the sequel to the Russell Crowe exorcism movie is underway.

FLESH OF THE GODS---Oscar Issac and Kristen Stewart will star in the Panos Cosmatos vampire movie which is described as, "Isaac and Stewart will portray Raoul and Alex, a married couple in glittering ’80s L.A. who descend each evening from their luxury skyscraper condo and head into an electric nighttime realm. When they cross paths with the mysterious and enigmatic Nameless and her hard-partying cabal, Raoul and Alex are seduced into a glamorous, surrealistic world of hedonism, thrills and violence."

THE BETTER SISTER---Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks will star in The Amazon Prime miniseries based on the novel. The synopsis says, “The series explores the terrible things that drive sisters apart and ultimately bring them back together. Chloe (Biel) moves through the world with her handsome lawyer husband Adam and teenage son Ethan by her side while her estranged sister Nicky (Banks) struggles to stay clean and hustles to make ends meet. When Adam is brutally murdered, the prime suspect sends shockwaves through the family, laying bare long-buried secrets.”

THE GRAY MAN 2---Ryan Gosling apparently is not returning for the sequel to the Russo Brothers/Netflix movie.

THE NAKED GUN---Paul Walter Hauser will play Captain Ed in the reboot movie starring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson.

MUFASA: THE LION KING---director Barry Jenkins (MOONLIGHT) replied to accusations directing MUFASA means he has sold out to "Iger's soulless machine" and he become a "shill", “There is nothing soulless about THE LION KING. For decades children have sat in theaters all over the world experiencing collective grief for the first time, engaging Shakespeare for the first time, across aisles in myriad languages. A most potent vessel for communal empathy.”

TRIVIA---before James Caan and Robert Duvall starred in Francis Ford Coppola's classic THE GODFATHER, Caan and Duvall starred in Robert Altman's COUNTDOWN. In COUNTDOWN, Caan played a NASA astronaut who is sent on a hurried mission to the Moon to beat three Russian cosmonauts who were launched earlier, and Duvall plays the astronaut who trains Caan for the mission.

BOX OFFICE BOMBS---THE MARVELS was 2023's biggest box office bomb with a net loss of $237 million. THE FLASH was second with a net loss of $155 million.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD---photo released showing Anthony Mackie in the new Captain America suit.

SACRIFICE---Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Evans, Brendan Fraser and Salma Hayek Pinault will star in the Romain Gavras movie whose synopsis says, "A high end charity gala is raided by a violent group of radicals on a mystical quest to fulfill a prophecy."

THE DEATH OF ROBIN HOOD---Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer will star in the movie which is described as “...a darker reimagining of the classic Robin Hood tale. Set of its time, the film will see the title character grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, a battleworn loner who finds himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman who offers him a chance at salvation. Michael Sarnoski (PIG) is the director.

CINEMA SEX---THE ECONOMIST film data analyst Stephen Follows said cinema sex has dropped almost 40% since 2000. Movies with no sex at all increased from 18% to 46% in the same period. The biggest drop was in action movies with 70% having no sex. The sample was 250 of the highest-grossing movies since 2000.

THE FANTASTIC FOUR---Paul Michael Hauser (RICHARD JEWELL) has joined the cast in an undisclosed role.

THE EXORCIST---Mike Flanagan (THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE) is in talks to direct the next sequel.

THE MAGIC FARAWAY TREE---Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy will star in the fantasy movie based on the children's book.

TRIVIA---character actor Joel Polis appeared in two movies in which scientists found an alien spacecraft frozen in Antarctica which thawed out releasing an alien creature in a research station.
In THE THING (Kurt Russell), Polis played biologist Fuchs, who is thought to have killed himself before he could be assimilated by The Thing.
In ALIEN HUNTER (James Spader), Polis played Defense Department official Copeland, who persuaded Secretary of Defense Bayer to request a Russian submarine fire a nuclear missile to destroy an Antarctic research station after its scientists found a frozen alien spacecraft which thawed out and released an alien and a deadly virus that could kill mankind.

STAR TREK---William Shatner said he is willing to return as Captain James T. Kirk if the right script comes up, “It’s an intriguing idea. It’s almost impossible, but it was a great role and so well-written, and if there were a reason to be there not just to make a cameo appearance, but if there were a genuine reason for the character appearing, I might consider it.
A company that wants to freeze my body and my brain for the future might be a way of going about it. ‘We’ve got Captain Kirk’s brain frozen here.’ There’s a scenario. ‘Let’s see if we can bring back a little bit of this, a little salt, a little pepper. Oh, look at that. Here comes Captain Kirk!”
Shatner said he could play a young Kirk which may be possible because of a movie de-aging company he promotes.

ERUPTION---studios and streamers are in negotiations for the unfinished Michael Crichton novel that was completed by James Patterson. The plot involves a catastrophic volcano eruption in Hawaii and a military secret.

STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW---director Jon watts commented on the special effects used in the Disney+ series starring Jude Law, "I got to use all the cool stuff on my most recent Star Wars show. We had pre-viz, MOCAP, we shot on the volume, we did everything. But the most fun part was we also used all the old school techniques as well.”
He added, “We got Phil Tippett to do stop-motion. We did matte paintings, like real old-fashioned matte paintings. We got an ILM painter out of retirement to come out and do that. So to me, all that stuff is fun, but it’s just another tool, and it depends on how you use it.”

THE MAZE RUNNER---20th Century is reviving the franchise with Jack Pagien (ALIEN: COVENANT) in negotiations to write the script.

MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE---Giancarlo Esposito confirmed he is joining the MCU, but he did not release any details other than his appearance will be “sooner rather than later” and "better than you can imagine”.

THIS BLUE IS MINE---Elizabeth Debicki and Zazie Beretz will star in this psychosexual sci fi movie in which a man introduces his new girlfriend to his family which creates problems with his adult daughters.

TRIVIA---character actor Lawrence Monntaigne is best known to sci fi fans as appearing on STAR TREK as Romulan Sub-Commander Decius in "Balance of Terror" and Vulcan Stonn in "Amok Time". When Leonard Nimoy was possibly leaving STAR TREK to co-star in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, Montaigne was the lead candidate to replace him as Spock.
Ironically, Montaigne's first acting role was in the Ray Harryhausen's classic sci fi movie THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS in which Montaigne played a soldier battling the Rhedosaurus.
Montaigne's favorite role was Haynes "Diversions" in THE GREAT ESCAPE.

SUPERMAN---James Gunn posted a photo of David Corenswet as Superman.

THE CARPENTER'S SON---Nicolas Cage and FKA Twigs will star in the horror movie based on Jesus' childhood. The synopsis says, “THE CARPENTER'S SON tells the dark story of a family hiding out in Roman Egypt. The son, known only as ‘the Boy’, is driven to doubt by another mysterious child and rebels against his guardian, the Carpenter, revealing inherent powers and a fate beyond his comprehension. As he exercises his own power, the Boy and his family become the target of horrors, natural and divine.”

THE FALL GUY---Ryan Gosling commented on a possible sequel, “Oh yeah. We already – I mean, we love these characters so much that we wanted to know, just for ourselves, what happens to Colt and [Emily Blunt’s character] Jody after the movie ends? What’s the next phase for them? And we know exactly what it is. So hopefully the audience wants to know, too.
The sequel sort of wrote itself. We already know [the story] intimately. We’re just hoping that people like this movie enough that we get to keep telling the story of these characters. We love them so much, and we love this world, and I feel confident that we can do it."

SPEED 3---Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock commented on a possible sequel to the hit 1994 movie whose 30th anniversary is in June. Reeves said, "We’d freakin’ knock it out of the park", and Bullock said, “Before I die, before I leave this planet, I do think that Keanu and I need to do something in front of the camera. Are we, you know, in wheelchairs or with walkers? Maybe. Are we on little scooters at Disneyland?” Reeves added, “It does feel like there is a siren call to it, like there’s something that wasn’t done. I would love to work with you again before our eyes close.“
Bullock commented on the sequel that bombed, “I have one [that] no one came around to and I’m still embarrassed I was in. It’s called SPEED 2. I’ve been very vocal about it. Makes no sense. Slow boat. Slowly going towards an island.” Earlier, Reeves said he did not return for the sequel because he did not like the script, “At the time, I didn’t respond to the script. I really wanted to work with Sandra Bullock, I loved playing Jack Traven, and I loved SPEED, but an ocean liner? I had nothing against the artists involved, but at that time I had the feeling it just wasn’t right.”

RIDDICK: FURYA---synopsis released for the sequel with Vin Diesel returning, "Riddick finally returns to his homeworld, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins. But there he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new monster. And some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined."

GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, DON'T DIE---Sam Rockwell, Michael Pena, Haley Lu Richardson, Zazie Beetz and Juno Temple will star in the Gore Verbinski comedy sci fi movie in which a man from the future enters a Los Angeles diner to recruit its customers in order to save the world in one night.

THE MANDALORIAN---Gina Carano commented on reports she is open to returning to the STAR WARS universe and has no ill will towards Lucasfilm after being fired for controversial social media posts, "I think people need to remember the media twists and turns your words into what they interpret it as and not the words that were actually spoken in the moment. Great thing is. There’s video proof and it shows how corrupt and slanted the ‘media’ and people who call themselves ‘journalists’ can be. If you didn’t hear it from my mouth. Don’t believe the headlines. Look at the full story, not their sound bites they use for cheap attention. Distinguish good journalism from the posers pushing agendas. Big mistake, huge."

HEAD GAMES---Samuel L. Jackson and Henry Folding will star in the sci fi action movie whose plot is described as, “a corporate spy poses as a personal chef to infiltrate the villa of a former founder of a neuroprosthetics firm in order to steal his seismic-shifting new invention. Nothing is as it seems as the mind games begin.”

WONDER WOMAN---Chris Pine said he was surprised Warner Bros. and DC Studios dropped the WONDER WOMAN franchise, “I’m stunned that they said no to a billion-dollar franchise and decided to pivot elsewhere. I don’t know what the reasoning was behind that; it’s above my pay grade, but Wonder Woman is an incredible character; Patty is such a thoughtful director.”

TRIVIA---when the comedy buddy movie MIDNIGHT RUN was being developed at Paramount Pictures, the studio wanted Cher to play the accountant who stole millions of dollars from a ruthless mobster because Cher's Academy Award in MOONSTRUCK and for "sexual overtones" with the bounty hunter played by Robert De Niro would boost ticket sales. But director Martin Brest wanted Charles Grodin for the role and Paramount lost interest. After the movie moved to Universal Studios, Brest was able to give to role to Grodin.

HORIZON: AN AMERICAN SAGA---photos released from the Kevin Costner four-part Western movie series.

BLADE RUNNER 2099---Michelle Yeoh will star in the Amazon Prime miniseries in an undisclosed role. The miniseries is reportedly female-led and involves female Blade Runner Olwen, who is pursuing female android Cora, and leads to the discovery of a vast conspiracy. Jonathan van Tulleken (SHOGUN) will direct the first two episodes.

I PLAY ROCKY---Peter Farrelly will direct the movie based on the making of Sylvester Stallone's ROCKY. The synopsis says, "A struggling actor with a partially paralyzed face and a speech impediment writes a script that a big movie studio wants to buy, but he refuses to sell it unless he gets to play the lead. Turning down an offer of life-changing money, he instead works for pennies to get the movie made with himself in the starring role. The movie becomes the biggest box office hit of 1976, notching ten Oscar nominations and winning Best Picture. The true story of the making of the iconic movie ROCKY."

THE SEA HAWK---movie underway based on the book that inspired the 1940 Errol Flynn movie about a galley slave who became a famous Barbary pirate.

MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE---Disney head Bob Iger said Marvel Studios will release less projects after box office bombs like THE MARVELS and disappointing tv shows, “We’re slowly going to decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four, and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two or at the maximum three.”

THE NAKED GUN---Danny Huston has joined the cast of the reboot movie in an undisclosed role.

MATCHBOX---Sam Hargrave (EXTRACTION) will direct the movie based on the Mattel toy car line.

TRIVIA---the 2004 FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX (Dennis Quaid, Mirando Otto, Giovanni Ribisi) was a remake of the 1965 THE FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX (Jimmy Stewart, Richard Attenborough, Hardy Kruger) in which a cargo plane carrying oil rig workers crashed into the dessert with the survivors using the cargo plane's wreckage to build a new plane in order to return to civilization.
In the remake, Miranda Otto played oil rig supervisor Kelly Johnson, who was named after legendary aeronautical engineer Kelly Johnson. At Lockheed, Johnson oversaw the design of famous aircraft including the P-38 Lightning, the U-2 Dragonlady and the SR-71 Blackbird.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE HUNT FOR GOLLUM---the first of a new series of movies in the franchise is underway with Andy Serkis returning as the star and director. Peter Jackson will be the producer and the co-writers are Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.
Serkis said, “Yesssss, Precious. The time has come once more to venture into the unknown with my dear friends, the extraordinary and incomparable guardians of Middle Earth Peter, Fran and Philippa. With Mike and Pam, and the Warner Bros team on the quest as well, alongside WETA and our film making family in New Zealand, it’s just all too delicious…”.
Premiere will be in 2026.

HEAT 2---Austin Butler is reportedly in talks to join the prequel cast as Chris Shiherlis, who was played by Val Kilmer in the original movie.

NCIS---the new spinoff tv series with Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo returning is titled NCIS: TONY & ZIVA.

TRIVIA---San Francisco Police Department Inspector Dave Toschi was the chief investigator for the Zodiac Killer in the late 1960s. In David Fincher's ZODIAC, Mark Ruffalo played Toschi.
Toschi was the inspiration for Clint Eastwood's San Francisco Police Department Inspector Harry Callahan, who investigated the Scorpio Killer in DIRTY HARRY. Steve McQueen used Toschi as his inspiration for San Francisco Police Department Lieutenant Frank Bullitt in BULLITT.

JURASSIC WORLD---Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (THE LINCOLN LAWYER) is in negotiations to play the lead male character with Scarlett Johansson as the female lead character in the latest dinosaur franchise movie.

TENZING---biomovie underway about Nepalese-Indian mountaineer Tenzing Norgay who helped Edmund Hillary climb Mount Everest in 1953. Tom Hiddleston will play Hillary and Willem Dafoe will play expedition leader Colonel John Hunt.

BELLY OF THE BEAST---Ben Stiller will play Norman Mailer and Colin Farrell will play convict/writer Jack Henry Abbott in the movie about Mailer helping Abbott get paroled from prison and was later convicted of mansalughter.

THE BREED---Grace Caroline Currey will star in the remake of the 2006 Wes Craven cult classic horror movie in which “a rebel icon and badass on a mission to search for abandoned dogs on a remote island which leads to complete adrenaline-fueled terror.”

THE HUNTING PARTY---Melissa Roxburgh will play ex-FBI profiler Rebecca Henderson in the NBC crime series whose synopsis says, “The series follows a small team of investigators who are assembled to track down and capture the most dangerous killers our country has ever seen, all of whom have just escaped from a top-secret prison that’s not supposed to exist.”

TRIVIA---'The King of the Cult" Roger Corman's credits of cult sci fi and horror movies include LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS, TEENAGE CAVEMAN, THE WASP WOMAN, A BUCKET OF BLOOD and many others. THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU---Sigourney Weaver is in negotiations to co-star in the Lucasfilm movie based on the Disney+ tv series. Her role was not disclosed.

GODZILLA x KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE---Legendary Pictures has signed Dave Callaham (SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE, SHING-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS) to write the next sequel.

KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES---the sequel earned an impressive $129 million worldwide. Producers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver commented on plans for five more sequels. Jaffa said, “With KINGDOM, we really feel like we’ve set the foundation for at least two more movies with these characters. But we’ll see. A lot of it depends on the audience’s reaction, too." Silver added, “When you first came up with this idea, the APES franchise way back, you saw nine movies. We thought, ‘This is crazy ambitious.’ But here we are. We’re at four.”

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS---FORBES reported the Marvel movie's total cost was a whopping $415 million and it earned $956 million.

THOR 5---George Miller was asked if he would like to reunite with his FURIOSA: A MAD MAX SAGA star Chris Hemsworth for a THOR movie, “I would work with Chris on anything. I really would. He’s a wonderful actor. He’s got the full range of all the skills. I mean, you’ve got to be athletic, physically. But, you also gotta be athletic emotionally and intellectually to take on these very, ultimately fairly complex, any role really.”

TRIVIA---in INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM, surprisingly, many fans never noticed Dan Aykroyd's cameo as British Army officer Art Weber, who arranged for Indiana Jones, Willie and Short Round to escape on a cargo plane at Nang Tao Airport. Aykroyd's cameo is only 18 seconds long and may be the shortest movie appearance of his career.

JURASSIC WORLD---Rupert Friend (OBI-WAN KENOBI) will co-star with Scarlett Johansson in the reboot movie in an undisclosed role.

REACHER---7' 2" Olivier Richters will play Paulie, Zachary Beck's bodyguard in Season 3.

TRIVIA---the original Pink Panther movies starred Peter Sellers as Inspector Jacques Clouseau and Burt Kwouk as Clouseau's manservant, Cato. In the 2006 THE PINK PANTHER reboot, Steve Martin played Clouseau and the role of Cato was offered to Jackie Chan. However, Cato was removed from the script because it was feared he would be a Chinese stereotype that would be offensive. Cato was replaced by Clouseau's sidekick, Gendarme Gilbert Ponton, who was played by Jean Reno.

STAR WARS---George Lucas commented on criticism of his STAR WARS franchise, “They would say, ‘It’s all white men’. Most of the people are aliens! The idea is you’re supposed to accept people for what they are… the idea is all people are equal.”
He also commented on criticism of how women are depicted in STAR WARS, “Who do you think the heroes are in these stories? What do you think Princess Leia was? She’s the head of the rebellion. She’s the one that’s taking this young kid who doesn’t know anything and this boisterous, I-know-everything guy who can’t do anything and trying to save the rebellion with these clowns."
He added, "And it’s the same thing with Queen Amidala. You can’t just put a woman in pants and expect her to be a hero. They can wear dresses, they can wear whatever they want. It’s their brains and their ability to think and plan and be logistical. That’s what the hero is.”

THE SIMPSONS---in a recent interview Harry Shearer commented on THE SIMPSONS becoming too woke, “Folk say the show has become woke in recent years and one of my characters has been affected. I voiced the Black physician, Dr. Hibbert, who I based on Bill Cosby. Back then he was known as the ‘whitest Black man on television.’ Then, a couple of years ago, I received an email saying they’d employed a Black actor, who then copied my voice. The result is a Black man imitating a white man imitating the whitest Black man on TV.”

THE TERRIFIER 3---FX artist Tom Savini (FRIDAY THE 13TH) has joined the sequel cast in an undisclosed role.

NIGHT ALWAYS COMES---Vanessa Kirby will star in the Netflix movie based on the novel. The synopsis says, Risking everything to secure a future for herself and her brother, Lynette sets out on a dangerous odyssey in Portland; confronting her own dark past over one propulsive night."
