One thing about Dylan is that he’s a great contrarian. He never did/does what people want. I don’t how many of you have seen A Complete Unknown but the movie more or less gets right what he did at Newport in 1964. He didn’t want to be pigeon holed anymore and had greater visions than being seen as just a folkie so he went his own way but then a couple of years later changed direction again after his worldwide tour. In all honesty, if he hadn’t, the way he was going he might have ended up like Janis and Hendrix.
 
This is one of Bob’s most beautiful songs about loss and missing love. It’s so evocative. The song is based on his relationship with Suze Rotolo who was traveling to Italy in 1962 for study. The song focuses on their relationship which was ending.
