My Family Trip to Historic Williamsburg, Virginia (2 Viewers)

The new museum of the American Revolution is also a must see (across the bridge) at Yorktown...the museum store even sells Britains toy soldiers!

A few more from Yorktown:

Guilty, Chuck. Lol.😄

I am pleasantly surprised. I would have thought that based on your collection you were way way way older. I had a vision of a long grey haired gentle older professor type based on your post and collection.
I am sure there are some people who know you in person who are chuckling right now, but you have always come across as a kind educator type of person to me when ever you respond to someone's snarky post on the forum.
It puts your collection and the types of things you collect in different light. More intriguing for sure.

I hope I didn't offend you with this.
Chuck

Chuck,

That is too funny, but I thank you for the compliment. I used to feel like an old man before my second back surgery, but now I am a fairly spry 53 year old.🤣

By the way guys, my wife sent me some way better photos she took of today’s tour, and I will post them when I get back to the hotel.

Great pics. That native looks lonely.:smile2: I have wanted to go back to Williamsburg as I had also heard the numbers of tourist were down as well.
I haven't been there since a child so I mentioned to my wife we need to go before its no longer operating. These pictures just reaffirm that.
We need to go. You guys on the east coast are so lucky in the fact that you can get to these places in a day or so.

Looks like you are having a great family trip!
I always loved Williamsburg, and visited many times when I was stationed at Langley. If you have the time I would recommend visiting Fort Monroe in Hampton.
Visit | Fort Monroe Authority

Also the Mariner's Museum in Newport News.
The Mariners' Museum and Park - America's National Maritime Museum (marinersmuseum.org)

I would add that Ft Monroe has the US Coastal Artillery Museum. And the Mariners Museum has a full scale replica of the USS Monitor (the hull and turret only) that you walk about on the deck. They also have the guns, engines and many artifacts taken from the wreck.

The US Marine Corps museum in Quantico is fantastic with many full scale dioramas. Chris

THanks for posting all the photos Louis, brings back a lot of fond memories. I can tell everyone is having a wonderful time. Yorktown is a great historic town to walk about. Chris

Louis,
glad you are enjoying the trip, I knew you would! We used to go a lot when I was a kid and I take it for granted. We would start the decent into VA and Williamsburg was always the destination with side trips to Charlottesville (Jefferson) or Richmond's Monument Row............................I am glad Williamsburg is still standing unscathed!!!!!!! Can't wait to hear on the firearms!
Tom

PS - I tweaked my back this week and immediately thought of you, holy crap pain. I am supposed to go to the range my self on Saturday at my Aunts and I am having to adjust arms selection.

Yikes Tom! Feel better.👍👍

Williamsburg is a great place to visit. So much history and the local economy is bolstered by many federal and military connections. Making it a higher end place to visit than Gettysburg. You have the original Jamestown settlement, revolutionary war, and civil war sights all in proximity. The only downside is the humidity and bugs in the summer. That must have been a rough place for the original settlers with all the swampy land in the days before A/C with all those mosquitoes
