N.f.l. 2010 season (1 Viewer)

Guess it must be me but I don't Rogers had that great a game (although he has the gaudy stats), certainly not deserving of MVP in my book. I thought Jennings might get it.

If you look at the game stats, aside from the final score (which is the only one that counts), Pittsburgh won in every category: time of possession, first downs, passing percentage, so forth and so on -- and I mean every one -- Pittsburgh wins. Unfortunately, the one they won that was crucial to the game was giving up turnovers. Had any one of those three TO's not been made, Steelers win.

I'm not ready to anoint Rodgers just yet in the class of Brady or Manning (who is generally lame in the playoffs). He had a great game agains the Falcons but was ok in the Eagles game and disappeared in the second half of the Bears game. To rate Vick (who after the Giants game disappeared) or Brees before Ben is just nuts. Heck, to equate Eli with Simms is also a little whacko. Aside from last night, the guy just wins. If that's not the definition of success I don't know what the heck is.

Taking his team to three SB appearances in 6 years is quite an achievement in my book.
LOL Brad I think you watched a different game if you think Rogers was not the MVP. As Louis rightly notes, he would have had over 400 yards had his receivers not choked on 5-6 catches. More importantly, he was the Packers offense last night. Take away Rogers and the Steelers win easily. As to Jennings, yes he made some of the clutch catches but he also had some of those drops. Rogers earned the MVP without any question.

As to whether he is in the class of Brady or Manning yet there can only be two answers. For a career, obviously not, he does not have their experience and only time will tell if he can match their excellent careers. For this season, yes he was very much in their class and near the top at that. Just look at the numbers and how relatively important he is to his team.

Ben did not have his best game last night but I thought he played with true grit, as he usually does. I have said before that I don't think he is an elite QB but he certainly can win and there are a number of QBs in Canton that are there for just that reason. No matter what though, I certainly would rank him above Vick, who beyond being a felon, is just not that impressive to me. He is one of several QBs I am glad the Skins, despite their problems, do not have.

Hi Bill. Agree about Vick. Skins got enough on their hands with "Roadrage" Haynesworth on the loose.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Not that impressive? He was in the running for league MVP until the Eagles stumbled down the stretch, I guessed you missed that Giants game where he was lights out.

If the Deadskins had him, they'd be going somewhere they haven't been since Christ was in a crib; the playoffs............

I have one big question to be asked now that the Superbowl is over: Will we have football in 2011, or will we have a lockout or a strike?

There is nothing I, as a fan, hates more than a lockout or a strike. The NFL is an 8 Billion Dollar annual industry, and the Packers, the team in the smallest market (but, as a publically owned company, the only team forced to disclose its income) showed a 7 Million dollar profit last season.

I don't care how the really rich owners and the rich players carve up this 8 Billion dollar pie, the ingredients for the pie come from the fans, who pay for season tickets (done that), PSL's (refused to do that), TV advertising (as a consumer, I pay for my share of that) merchandising (I watched the Superbowl in my Giants 2007 Championship long sleeve t-shirt under my 1986 Official #56 Lawrence Laylor Jersey, one of 5 Giants Jerseys in my closet, so I've been there and done that).

I hated the NFL Strike in 87, with games played by replacement players, which ruined the season after my team's first Superbowl for me. I've hated every strike in every sport (in MLB, the 1994 strike knocked out the Yankees, who were in 1st place, from what would have been their first post season appearance since 1980 - hey, I've been spoiled since 1996, but back in 1994 I was crushed when the post season was cancelled).

If there is a strike or a lockout, I personally will boycott the NFL once it is resolved for as many games as the lockout cost me. I won't buy tickets, merchandise, or watch games on TV for that period. I am praying that it doesn't happen, but I am really afraid that it will.

I wouldn't put anything past Danny boy in DC. btw: is one of our new smiley faces wearing a nazi hat? LOL. Can't wait for someone to start that discussion on the forum.:salute::

George I saw that game and he has flashes but he also makes incredibly poor decisions and can throw bricks. The only where the Skins would be going with Vick is further down the toilet. (Did I mention he should still be in jail?) Nope, give me a QB that knows when to hold them and deliver strikes; I don't care if he can run or not. It still burns me that the Skins passed on Rogers; yet another brilliant decision of Snyder's management of the time.

All that said, while we are friends, I can do without the silly Skins putdowns. Like most simple slurs, it is insulting and really does ignore the details. There are some fine players on the team and there have been for many seasons. Yes there are many holes but at least we have an "honest" coach. That is the level at which I find your deadskins and christ in the crib observations FWIW.

He was charged with a crime, convicted and sent to prison and did his time, his debt to society has been paid.

Sorry if that is not good enough for you.

Oh and he just won comeback player of the year by the way.

If you feel that strongly about it, blame the commissioner for letting him back into the league.

The Patriots have gone 16-0, 11-5, 10-6 and 14-2 since Belichick got caught "cheating", ie, try to steal defensive signals; signal stealing is the crime, it's done all the time, just ask the offensive line coach of the Colts, he's a master sign stealer/lip reader.

Your coach got caught playing with the salary cap while in Denver and his team was notorious for chop and cut blocking, broke Ted Washingtons ankle that way, tried to do the same to Vince Wilfork.

The notion of cheating; guess it all depends on what side of the fence you are standing on as to the degree or severity of it.

Oh and the cheater just won coach of the year too.

So there you go.

NO it is not good enough for me. I don't think his debt is at all paid. That he has won any award is also irrelevent to me.

I never said Bill was not a good coach, merely giving you a crude example of how your own crude half truths resonate. I hope you get the point eventually.

I know I'm going to regret asking this, but what else do you want to happen to Vick beyond what has already taken place; star athlete, on top of the world, loses it all, as in every dime and goes to prison.

This retort should be a four star award winner..............

First off he didn't really lose it all; his financial future looks pretty good at this point I'd say. Moreover when your net worth after the "loss" is measured the the multiple millions, I really don't think lost it all quite fits. Secondly, what he lost was to me less than the pain he inflicted so his debt is still on the books for me and many others. Maybe it will be eventually but I am not there yet.

As to your continued sarcasm, I don't really appreciate it and, choose your next one well since it may be that last words we exchange. If you don't care, well that is your choice. It is one thing to have a friendly debate; which is fine on any subject, football or felons. It is another to demean for no reason the person you are debating with. My continued point for the last few responses has been directed at just that. I know you can make your point without resorting to such remarks and to be banter, both people must see it that way. I truly hope that is four star enough for you.

If I can get a word in edgewise between the two of you, (aside from the Vick discussion) we are talking about sports, right? It doesn't seem to me that's something that should cause heated acrimony or for two reasonable individuals to not talk to each other again.

Couldn't agree more.

Somewhere between comments about the Redskins, Belichick and Vick, the thread jumped the shark.

Football season is over, so is my participation in this thread.

.

AFC...COLTS...JETS...RAVENS...STEELERS... CHIEFS... PATRIOTS
NFC...EAGLES...PACKERS...SAINTS...GIANTS...SEAHAWKS...RAMS

Sammy, two things: the Chiefs are an AFC team, and 6 teams make the playoffs from each conference.

Move the Chiefs to the AFC and add the Patriots and you are probably right.

Add Giants, Falcons and Bears to your 3 NFC picks and you probably have something there as well.

I like Patriots hosting the Jets for the AFC Championship, and Packers hosting the Giants (who I dream will sign shut down cornerback Namde Asemwa [spelling?] as a free agent from the Raiders to make their defense the best in the NFC).

I agree with Louis on the six teams in each conference.

One thing the Jets need to do and it may not be possible unless they win the Division (possibly a tall order) is to host a playoff game. You're asking a lot year in and year out to win three games on the road. Trouble is unless you win the division, the best they can do is a number 5 seed and could only host the championship game against the number 6 seed. This was the situation Sammy was probably hoping for this year: Ravens beating Steelers and hosting Jets.

Hi Guys,
A question.

I note the final was in Dallas but the teams from much further north. How do they choose the stadium ?

Thanks.

Regards
Brett

It's rotated from year to year. Usually the team or teams from the city in question make a bid to hold the game in their city. It's usually in a warm weather city. I'm not sure if any payment is made to the league but it is usually a big boon to tourism in that city for the week before the game. Next year, it's in Indianopolis (indoor stadium).
