LOL Brad I think you watched a different game if you think Rogers was not the MVP. As Louis rightly notes, he would have had over 400 yards had his receivers not choked on 5-6 catches. More importantly, he was the Packers offense last night. Take away Rogers and the Steelers win easily. As to Jennings, yes he made some of the clutch catches but he also had some of those drops. Rogers earned the MVP without any question.Guess it must be me but I don't Rogers had that great a game (although he has the gaudy stats), certainly not deserving of MVP in my book. I thought Jennings might get it.
If you look at the game stats, aside from the final score (which is the only one that counts), Pittsburgh won in every category: time of possession, first downs, passing percentage, so forth and so on -- and I mean every one -- Pittsburgh wins. Unfortunately, the one they won that was crucial to the game was giving up turnovers. Had any one of those three TO's not been made, Steelers win.
I'm not ready to anoint Rodgers just yet in the class of Brady or Manning (who is generally lame in the playoffs). He had a great game agains the Falcons but was ok in the Eagles game and disappeared in the second half of the Bears game. To rate Vick (who after the Giants game disappeared) or Brees before Ben is just nuts. Heck, to equate Eli with Simms is also a little whacko. Aside from last night, the guy just wins. If that's not the definition of success I don't know what the heck is.
Taking his team to three SB appearances in 6 years is quite an achievement in my book.
As to whether he is in the class of Brady or Manning yet there can only be two answers. For a career, obviously not, he does not have their experience and only time will tell if he can match their excellent careers. For this season, yes he was very much in their class and near the top at that. Just look at the numbers and how relatively important he is to his team.
Ben did not have his best game last night but I thought he played with true grit, as he usually does. I have said before that I don't think he is an elite QB but he certainly can win and there are a number of QBs in Canton that are there for just that reason. No matter what though, I certainly would rank him above Vick, who beyond being a felon, is just not that impressive to me. He is one of several QBs I am glad the Skins, despite their problems, do not have.
