You always feel bad for the kids when your team loses. Hope he feels better soon Tom.

He will, they forget quick thank goodness!! The tears disappeared by halftime, high excitement until the fumble and then the nervousness set in, then the tears once again! I think I actually learned something tonight, maybe I am finally not the kid anymore as I remember those days of how I was.(Up until last year :):))

Its funny, I grew up in a full on Pittsburgh household. If it wasnt a Pittsburgh team on tv, we really didn't watch (except Cal Ripken, hard not to watch/respect him when he grew up in basically the same town). Point is, its amazing how much it gets in your "blood".

Anyhow, its only sports, a great way to forget the real world for awhile and it will be back before we all know it.

SO, Sammy, you have the honors come June to remind us about the Ravens.........:)

Well Tom your boys had a good run, I know all about how turnovers can cost you a game!!! gotta give it up for Rodgers and the pack, they didn't choke when things got tough, so congrats to the Packers.:salute:: and as for next season I just hope we have a next season, lot's of CBA stuff better get fixed quick, but as always after that trophy is hoisted, I'm already looking forward to the draft/camp in only 6 short months, see you all then...Sammy

Almost game time. My heart is all a twitter. Four more hours and the real sports are over till April.:wink2: -- Al

Come over to the UFC my friend- athelete on athelete- no prima donnas, no one beating their wives or girlfirends (they are too tired after beating on each other!! ^&grin), no drug abuse issues, no "questionable" run ins with coeds, no dog fighting issues, no I might retire I might not retire drama- just world class atheletes having a go at each other. That ref shouts "let's do it" and those guys charge each other- never know WHAT is going to happen!!

Funny thing- my 5 year old now tries to put my oldest son (15yrs) into rear naked choke holds and jumps on him just punching his lights out yelling "ground and pound!!" ^&grin It's pretty comical. Seriously, I cannot think of watching any sports anymore instead of UFC. It's just fantastic.

Thanks to both the Packers and the Steelers for an exciting superbowl.

The Packers defense played fantastic until the last drive of the first half when two starting members of their secondary, including last season's defensive player of the year Woodson went down with injuries. The Steelers took advantage, and if it wasn't for the fumble, they might very well have pulled off the comeback.

Aaron Rogers served notice that he is one of the top 3 quarterbacks in the league, and played amazing. He had 304 yards and 3 touchdowns, and, had his stone-handed receivers not dropped no less than 6 passes, he throws for more than 400 yards.

Greenbay also deserves unbelievable credit for overcoming a series of injuries not just last night, but all season. They had around 17 players on IR this season. Winning a championship despite the incredible rash of injuries speaks volumes about their orginaization.

If it wasn't for the three turnovers, Big Ben might also have thrown for 300 yards (he had 254) going into the last drive, and probably another 20+ on the last drive). Teh first INT wasn't his fault (his arm was hit as he released the ball), although there were at least 3 other balls he threw that could have been picked (2 after being tipped). I know Steelers fans don't want to hear this, but Ben was outplayed by the Quarterback facing him for the third time in 3 superbowls (his first superbowl was the worst ever quarterback rating for a winning quarterback, his second superbowl he was outplayed by Kurt Warner, and this Superbowl it wasn't even close, Aaron Rogers dominated him). He is a very solid quarterback, but dispite his two rings, I still don't see him as one of the top 5. I would take Aaron Rogers, Brady (obviously), Peyton Manning, Drew Breeze, and Vick over him, in no particular order.

I see Roethlisberger as a QB like Phil Simms or Eli Manning - he benefits from great defense and a terrific running game, and makes timely big plays to win. Like Simms, he gets by on toughness and desire more than traditional quarterbacking skills. I don't see him as one of the hall of fame caliber quarterbacks who can carry a team, like Tom Brady (1st ballot hall of famer), Peyton Manning (ditto) or Aaron Rogers (who served notice he is joining the club).

Guess it must be me but I don't Rogers had that great a game (although he has the gaudy stats), certainly not deserving of MVP in my book. I thought Jennings might get it.

If you look at the game stats, aside from the final score (which is the only one that counts), Pittsburgh won in every category: time of possession, first downs, passing percentage, so forth and so on -- and I mean every one -- Pittsburgh wins. Unfortunately, the one they won that was crucial to the game was giving up turnovers. Had any one of those three TO's not been made, Steelers win.

I'm not ready to anoint Rodgers just yet in the class of Brady or Manning (who is generally lame in the playoffs). He had a great game agains the Falcons but was ok in the Eagles game and disappeared in the second half of the Bears game. To rate Vick (who after the Giants game disappeared) or Brees before Ben is just nuts. Heck, to equate Eli with Simms is also a little whacko. Aside from last night, the guy just wins. If that's not the definition of success I don't know what the heck is.

Taking his team to three SB appearances in 6 years is quite an achievement in my book.

The Super Bowl circus reminds me more and more of "Idiocracy." First, they screw up the national anthem and then another ridiculous halftime show which I vowed not to watch but couldn't look away from like some terrible automobile accident. My daughter asked what was going on and the best I tell her was that they were people from outer space. Thank god for the mute button. I'm surprised the networks haven't forced the TV manufacturers to stop providing the mute function. Like some "1984" invention that can never be silenced.

Good points and I know Louis is not a Ben Fan. That said, Louis is right, Ben has had his "worst" days in the SB, but he was also the hero too and last night had a chance. Again, I am fine with this one, we did what we needed to most of the time, the turnovers were just critical and I give hats off to Rodgers on capitalizing on them. It was a great game in the end.

As for next year, I think it will be interesting and I think our offense will be tough. I think the real crucial items will come out in the news in the next few days - mainly on Polamalu, I am wondering if we don't get some extremely bad news on the injury. He has not been the same since the late season Cinci game. I just don't believe that every team schemed away from him with that much success, something is really wrong with the Achilles.

Again, just happy we made it a good game after getting down.

Tom

Have to say, that while Big Ben may not be the prettiest of passers or an elegant runner, the man finds a way to win, SB 45 not withstanding. As a Ravens fan, Ive seen enough of his leadership ability and toughness to know that he is a top flight QB. QB ratings do not make a winner, titles do. Big Ben has the credentials, whether I like him or not. One less turnover and I think the Steelers win SB45. The Steelers have a winning QB, pure and simple. May not have the stats of Brady, Manning, Rodgers or some others, but he belongs in their company, and then some. JMO. -- Al

Every one is entitled to his own opinion, and many pundits share yours. However, I have one simple question for you: if you were starting an NFL franchise, which quarterback would you take? If you tell me you would take Big Ben over Aaron Rogers, I would simply ask you on what performance basis? Look at his stats in 3 Superbowls, they are pretty awful. The Steelers win those games despite him, not because of them. His only decent performance was against the Cardinals, who had absolutely no defense to speak of, and if Harrison doesn't return a pick 102 yards with no time remaining at the end of the first half, the Steelers lose that game as well. Hell, if a receiver doesn't make a diving rolling catch on 3rd and 6 for 8 yards, people would be examining Big Ben's awful stats in this years AFC championship game.

The Steelers win with defense and a running game. Like the Giants did in 86, 90 and 2007. Like the Ravens did in 2000. Like most "ground and pound" philosophy teams have over the years. Roethlisberger benefited from that to the toon of 2 rings. In the first of those games, the Steelers flat out overcame Big Ben's horrid performance. In the second, he looked good, not even close to great, against a team with no defense, no running game, and an aged quarterback, who flat out outplayed him. Last night Rogers crushed him.

Oh, and about Rogers "gaudy stats": his receivers dropped 6 count em 6 balls (one a sure touchdown, 5 on third down) that a highschool receiver would have been benched for dropping. If they catch even 3 of those 6 balls, time of possession changes radically, and Rogers throws for well over 400 yards.

Big Ben did nothing but throw 2 interceptions (one admittedly not his fault) until the Packers lost both Woodson and their other starting cornerback. Giving Roethlisberger credit for the two titles and 3 Superbowl appearances is like giving Trent Dilfer credit for the Ravens win in 2000. Both Phil Simms and Jeff Hostetler had (in Simms' case way) better Superbowl performances, against better defenses (the Orange Crush was clearly better than the Cardinals, as was the Bills D) in their Superbowls, but nobody credits them with those titles, they recognize they benefitted from the great defenses and running games. I am not a big Phil Simms fan (I still remember thinking "Phil who? where's Moorehead State?"at the draft when the Giants took him with a high first round pick, and passed on Joe Montana in both the first and second rounds despite his unbelievable performance for Notre Dame in the "Chicken Soup" Cotton Bowl) but I would take him over Roethlisberger any day.

Louis, nobody is disputing stats, and not knocking your opinion. The Steelers are the ultimate TEAM oriented football team. We try to put together a complete package. Again, say what you will, I am not saying I take x over y, what I am saying is I am happy with Big Ben, regardless of last night, he is a winner. Somebody had to throw the ball to Santonio to win SB 43. It is what it is. Like I said, he gets one more ring, guranteed HOF, he may make it without it anyway if he stays healthy and plays. He may not have the highest stats, but he has a lot of them!

All I know is that Ben is my Ravens cryptonite!! and his numbers are not that great against us either, but a td here and there and he wins over my boys usually, so hope he finds some more bars to play in this summer so we do not see him next year:smile2:...Sammy

this is true...a couple of easy catches would have made a huge difference...one drop was a sure touchdown...

Tom,

I completely agree that the Steelers are far and away the best NFL franchise of my lifetime because of that TEAM first mentality. They have 6 titles, 8 AFC Championships, and 15 AFC Championship Game appearances since I was born 43 years ago. The only franchise in any American Sport that can claim a better run in the last 43 years is my Yankees (7 titles, 11 AL Championships, 14 ALCS appearances). They have built an all around phenomenal team, with a perineally great defense and running game. Big Ben is a very good quarterback, good enough to allow the otherwise great team to win 2 championships and 3 AFC titles. I am just saying that in my opinion, as good as the rest of the team is, and as well coached as it is, the Steelers would have won those 2 titles with any number of other good NFL quarterbacks, including the quarterbacks presently starting in New England, Indianapolis, Green Bay, New Orleans, San Diego, Philadelphia, the Giants and maybe even the Jets, all of whom have played as well or better than Big Ben in Big Games for teams with equally or less talented defenses.

Ha!! ^&grin^&grin

Though I might disagree- I think the Ravens are as good as Pittsburgh, they just need to stop snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!! ^&grin They are too busy trying to beat the Steelers and themselves!! If they'd focus on the Steelers alone, they'd be ok.

I agree with your points. Regardless of Ben's off field controversies, I give him credit on the field for his tenacity and never say die attitude. I do feel sorry for him as last night is the first time in a big one he came up short. Again, at the end of the day, you can't win them all as you well know as a Yanks fan. Even the mighty lose some days!

Its only sports, but sure makes interesting debate.

Good points, Chris. Ravens are a force to be reckoned with. If they would learn to finish a win and stop shooting themselves in the foot, they will be SB champs, too. -- Al

Well I hope next year since my Ravens have found every possible way to lose to the Steelers we CAN learn from those mistakes and find away to beat them!!! I agree I think the Ravens/Steelers are in a dead heat with each other at the moment, we just gotta finish games better next year...Sammy

The AFC is a very competitive conference and you just don't know who is going to wind up in the SB.

In no special order you have the Ravens, Jets, Pats, Steelers and Colts, with KC and Chargers not that far behind.

Fixed it for you.......

My observations from yesterday;

Cindy Lauper looks great for her age, but she got one of the lines wrong in the national anthem.....
The Black Eyed Peas were terrible, hip hop techno studio groups should never ever ever play live....
As in ever....
BUT, Fergie looked sillylicious...
My favorite commercial was the one with the chimps, that was LOL funny....
400 people who had legit tickets were denied access to the stadium; seems the temporary seats they were to sit in were not ready in time. They got free food, booze, merchandise, 2,400.00 clams from the NFL and free tickets to the 2012 Super Bowl.

Hopefully for them it will be a game worth seeing; between that screw up, the weather and the snow falling off of death star 5 and nearly killing 5 people, looks like that moron Jones will not be hosting another Super Bowl anytime soon.

That's all I got.
