N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (5 Viewers)

Doug...

I just read that link...
probably the most specific and detailed account of the Patriot's controversial history than I have ever seen...
I read a lot of stuff I was not aware of...

honestly...it's such an old story that it has no relevance on this year's playoffs...

after all this time...
most minds are already made up...
moot in that NE fans will see it one way and NE haters and others will see it another way...

Thoughts on Sean Peyton???

Payton is an interesting case. The NFL essentially punished him for trying to cover up the bounty scandal as opposed to finding that he was directly involved. He was suspended for an entire year and lost $5.8 million of his $7.1 million salary. He is the only head coach in modern NFL history to be suspended for any reason.

No, it does not.

And yes, they are.

Haters are gonna hate.

Let them hate all they want.

Time to turn the page, we've got two potentially great games on deck.

Thoughts on Sean Peyton???

Excellent point- I have wondered that over the years as well. Two totally different sets of circumstances and one team gets crucified and everything is all forgotten with the other guy. I think it's a case where the Pats have obviously had far more success than the Saints and it just being the law of averages that more is obviously said. I think Brees actually helped coach Peyton out as well as he is a stand up guy very highly regarded by the NFL and the fans all over. It's easy for the focus to be on him rather than Peyton's behavior. For the life of me I have no idea how that didn't come down as a life long ban. Will be interesting if they go to the big game and win and he gets his second ring as a coach what impact that would have on his HOF bid.

George- I just watched the throwback videos of Turkey sacking Bradshaw Man alive!!! {sm2}{sm2} I was watching Conan the Barbarian and Big Ben Davidson is running around in that fighting Arnold and it brought back all those memories of him just knocking Griese around.

As George mentioned the Patriots organization paid tribute to Charger's DT Brandon Mebane's 7-week-old daughter, Makenna. who passed away just over a week ago with a moment of silence before kick-off.

This is the same organization that took the time to support Bengals player Devon Still's 4-year-old daughter, Leah as she battled cancer. The night the Bengals played at the Patriots in 2016 the New England cheerleaders wore Still's Bengals jersey as a music video featuring Leah played on the stadium's video board. As if that wasn't enough Robert Kraft donated $25,000 to Cincinnati Children's Hospital and Medical Center in Leah's name.

So by all means if you feel they cheated go ahead and point your finger at them. I just feel that judging by the class moves in regards to the daughters of Mebane and Stills you might want to tip your cap to them as well.

Robert kraft has just been awareded the genesis prize in Israel. It’s basixally Israel’s Nobel. He is being honored for his years of philanthropy and his fight against antisemitism

He’s one of if not the best owners in the league based on his off the field actions

Being a lifelong Steelers fan, I have seen my share of mud slung at the Rooneys. Pittsburgh is one of the most respected organizations out there, yet we have had some fingers pointed over the years. In the 70s it was steroids and clothesline tackles, the immaculate reception was bogus, we cheated, then again in the 2000's we heard the same cries. Notice the pattern, it always comes about when you win. Yet, the organization has done a ton of good from the Rooney rule to hiring coaches, philanthropy, etc.

All good organizations push the rulebook to the max, yet guess what, you still have to win the games on the field and that is what the Pats did.

That said, there is one item that was truly stupid and needless IMO - Brady's behavior about the deflated fballs, I think he took some really dumb arrogant actions in the wake of that scandal and I don't know why. We heard from Montana to Bradshaw to Bert Jones to Manning to I think even Big Ben - they all want the fballs as low as possible until they are caught. Brady would have been better off to just say, hey, I like them as low as possible and if the refs deemed them ok to play with , then so be it. His seemingly arrogance IMO got the better of him and he made some misguided decisions. I can only assume if he could play that situation out again, he would make different choices. End of the day, still has to make the throws, receivers have to catch, team has to win. Did he probably lose some respect over his own actions, sure, but they all collectively have made dumb decisions, they are human.

I don't agree with the stealing of signals, but unfortunately the drive to win trumps all due to the money involved. Sad but true, but its not the little leagues!

Crazy stat I just heard:
Brady has WON more playoff games then any other quarterback has ever PLAYED

That’s true but because the post season has changed over the history of the NFL, it’s hard to engage in absolutes.

The weather channel predicts it will be six degrees in KC this weekend at kickoff. That should help the Pats. I can't see that kind of cold being helpful to KC's offense.

Brady going to his 13th Conference Championship Game, which is as many as 2nd place (Montana) and 3rd place (Elway) combined, he also now has as many playoff wins as Elway and Manning COMBINED.

How about that as far as absolutes.

Did anyone see the news article on Eagles scumbag Michael Bennett yelling and accosting a cameraman on his way off the field after the Eagles loss? What a jerk, the NFL really needs to start taking out the trash.

Ya know, James Harrison was arguably one of the meanest Steelers to ever take the field but as mean as he was, I never saw him trash anyone other than Goodell who deserved it IMO and still does. I miss the Harrison verbal beatdowns of Goodell. Now , one thing I think Harrison needs to put to bed is his jabs at the Steelers. I know he dislikes Tomlin and blames him for his exit, but prior to that, he was one of Tomlin's biggest fans. Harrison finally got older, albeit in his last season, he almost went out like he wanted to.

I wonder why Goodell never punished Bennett for injuring a 66-year-old paraplegic woman who was working to control access to the field during Super Bowl LI? Is the NFL still investigating that?

Speaking of "did anyone see", but "did anyone see" the Adam Gaze press conference where he is introduced as the new HC of the NYJ? If you haven't, TRUST ME, google it or search for it on YouTube, it's must see viewing, specifically his eyes, he's got batshit crazy eyes during the press conference, as in he's seriously on something, he's tweeking and looks like a teenager on a party drug...……………………..

He looked like Rudolf Hess during the Nuremberg trials.

This years coaching carousal has been a bit of a circus, capped off by Gase.

The Packers hire of Matt LaFleur was even more strange. He was the offensive coordinator at Tennessee where the Titan's finished 25th in the NFL in total offense in 2018. Green Bay says one of the reasons they hired him was because he is known for his ability to help develop quarterbacks. Huh? I am no fan of Rodgers but I am pretty sure he doesn't need anymore development.

The predicts:

Kansas City 31 New England 27 - cold weather but no snow. Hopefully won't impact the game. The Chiefs have probably heard a belly full about their playoff woes. Unless they sit back in the SD/LA Charger zone and let Brady pick them apart all day, they will outscore the Pats. Should be a good game but this seems like KC's year.

New Orleans 38 LA Rams 30 - the Rams D won't be able to make the stops down the stretch. Should be a shootout but the Saints are almost impossible to beat at home. The one hope for the Rams is that their running game keeps the ball out of Brees hands. They will need to score TDs to win. Last week they ran over the Cowboys but couldn't finish with TDs. So it was much closer than it should have been. They will need 35+ points to win this one. Goff has looked shaky as well. He needs to make some throws downfield under pressure. If the Saints have the ball and a chance to win at the end, they will.

Exact opposite for me.

The Patriots will beat the Chiefs. The weather will be irrelevant, sports are more predictable than people want to believe. I'll use the Patriots and Golden State in the NBA as examples of that.

The Rams will beat the Saints. As much as I want the Saints to win, they barely beat the Eagles. LA is much better than Philadelphia.

New England vs. LA in the Super Bowl. New England will win it.

Don’t forget the Pats are 3-5 on the road this year so I wouldn’t be as sure as you seem to be.

I feel more comfortable in the Saints beating the Rams. Sometimes in your first playoff game you’re a little nervous. Except for the first quarter and a half, the Saints were in charge of the game. The Eagles did nothing offensively after that, except for the last drive. They’ve got the cobwebs out and I think we’ll see a high powered offensive game from both teams.
