N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (3 Viewers)

Tom, I wouldn’t pick a score but I do think it will be a close game. How close and who wins? Who knows? However, when everyone is rushing to judgment, I like to play the contrarian. The one thing in the Pats favor is they’re not playing the NFC East :wink2:

As I said in an earlier post, the Patriots have adjusted their offense as Brady has gotten older, they run a lot of 22 personnel now vs 11 personnel (2 backs, 2 tight ends, 1 WR vs 1 back, 1 tight end, 3 WR's).

They take what the defense gives you; you want to jam the receivers on the line and play with a light package/more DB's/one or no linebackers to take away the pass, they'll run the ball down your throat, you want to load up on the front 7 and take away the run and play man, Brady will dink and dunk you to death and eat you alive.

I take nothing for granted, I don't play the prediction game, they haven't had one easy Super Bowl and have lost three to two tomato cans (Opie twice and horseshoe up his *** Folsie), they beat three great QB's in Warner in his prime, Wilson in his prime, Ryan in his prime, plus Delhomme who was no stiff that year.

Anything can happen in one game. If the Rams get pressure up the middle which they are fully capable of doing with their front four, Brady will be in trouble. Pressure=hurried throws/sacks.

They had a brilliant offensive and defensive game plan vs the Chargers and more so vs the Chefs, can they do it three games in a row, we'll see.

They played single high safety vs the Chefs, jammed the receivers on the line, had Gilmore on Watkins and had a fast CB on Hill with safety help over the top, they put another fast CB on Kelce, Hill had one catch for 42 yards, Kelce had 5 for 67 and a TD, they were both taken out of the game essentially.

All I know is they were a pedestrian 11-5 (for them anyway) with four horrible road losses to hot garbage like the Lions, Titans, Doofins and the Jaguars, none of whom made the playoffs. They lost to a team I consider to be a very good team in the Steelers, yet they somehow managed to miss the playoffs too, so all five road losses were to non playoff teams. To me, the Steelers would have been the biggest challenge for the Patriots in the playoffs, the Chargers are a soft team and Mahomes was brilliant this year, but he is a rookie and they confused the **** out of him on Sunday just like I thought they would, pressure up the middle all game long, they ran a couple of outside blitzes too that almost got him as well.

It looks like they have flipped a switch the past couple of weeks; the key is health and not one starter is hurt, they are all healthy.

We'll see what shakes out in two weeks...…………...

Who's rushing to judgment anointing the Patriots the winner, I don't see it anywhere?

The Media?

The Media had them dead and buried, "the torch has been passed to Mahomes" according to all the big mouths on TV.

Brady is losing it, he and Belichick are not getting along, Gronkowski has lost a step, Brady has no weapons around him, the defense is very pedestrian.

The Rams were a sexy team several weeks ago, remember the media gushing all over them after their shoot out win over the Chefs...……………...offense wins games, defense wins championships.

The last team that led the NFL in scoring who won a Super Bowl was the 2009 Aints and it took a horrendous PIC 6 by Frankenforehead late in the game to win it for the Aints, another poser dome team.

If the Rams win, I'd hardly be stunned and shocked by that, they've got a very good team, they aren't some tomato can team that caught lightning in a bottle for two or three games that rode a hot QB into the game.

They are legit, their offense and defense are legit, their coach is legit.

did you see this?

I'm sure the NFL will investigate it for a whopping 12 seconds, then sweep it under the rug.

Just like they did with Manning and the HGH he had delivered to his house.
Just like they did when the Panthers were accused of holding footballs to a heater along the sidelines.
Just like they did when the Vikings were throwing around a towel with stickum on it.
Just like they did when...……………….well you get the idea.

If the AFCCG was played here in Foxboro and the same thing happened to the Chefs, Ted Wells would be on speed dial, the league would launch a thorough investigation, Belichick would be found guilty, suspended for the Super Bowl and the Patriots would lose all of their 2019 draft picks.

And don't you love all the chatter today about how the overtime rules need to be changed, this due to the Patriots winning the SB two years ago in OT and winning on Sunday in OT...……………………..keep changing the rules, we'll keep winning.

it won't even get 12 seconds of attention...
80,000 people in the stands...
there is nothing to investigate...
unless a Pat's fan was sitting right next to the guy...

No it won't but all kidding aside, can you imagine the ****storm that would ensue if that game was in New England and Mahomes was getting that thing shined in his eyes?

Thank God that's not the case...……………………..

A troll who calls local sports talk radio here today claimed the Rams/Saints game was rigged by the NFL, that bogus call greased the skids for an LA team to get to the Super Bowl because that's what the league wants, a huge market they feel is untapped.

He said the Super Bowl will be rigged too as again, the league wants the Rams to win.

I'm sure their 17 fans are thrilled at that prospect...……………...

From a Rams fan perspective, this matchup reminds me a lot more of the 1979 SB game with Pittsburgh than the previous SB with the Pats. In 1979, the Rams had a good team and they were playing the invincible Steelers. It was a good game. The Rams were actually leading at the start of the fourth quarter but ended up losing. Jack Youngblood played with a broken leg. Those were the days. The Rams have nothing to lose. No one really expects them to beat Brady and company. If they do, great. If not, there are a lot of young guys there who will make a run for the next several years. And the Rams are considered the home team! So they will be wearing those iconic blue and yellow uniforms instead of the horrible, mismatched road uniforms. They will look great even in defeat.

The real question I'd like everyone's opinion on.......................Did Edelman touch that punt? :p:eek:

I don't believe he did- I'm sure this one will get discussed for the ages.

I don't think he did and take comfort that the NFL has the best cameras covering every angle of every play. At first it looked like it did, but after the various...super slow mo...reviewable replays, I said "nah man" and it was one of those "by inches" moments.

The pass interference bad/no call for the Saints that is being debated on "Inside the NFL" right now has merit. I for sure thought they were going to throw the flag, but the didn't. My man got LEVELED before he could not even look at the pass. THEN the NFL refs say today that "we got it wrong". Well, it is a little too late for that apology.

George,

"Rigged" seems to be a tag phrase word now-a-days if something doesn't go your way. Boo-who. I'll tell you what is rigged...the size of a Big Mac right now. I swear they used to be bigger, but now when you get one it seems like it fits in the palm of your hand. I mean they are like Jimmy Dean size...almost like a slider. Yet, the price gets higher. Anyway, George congrats...AGAIN on seeing the Pats go to the Super Bowl for the umpteenth time.

Seriously though congrats...Im rooting for the Rams though George...sorry.

I can't blame you for rooting for the Los Angeles Rams, they've got a rich history, been to two Super Bowls, won one, had a great QB in Warner, great running back in Faulk...………...oh wait, those were the St Louis Rams.

Ok then, well they went to the Super Bowl once, gave the geriatric Steelers on the back end of their dynasty quite a game after beating the power house Tampa Bay Bucaneers 9-0 in the NFCCG...…...oh wait, those were the Anaheim Rams.

The Los Angeles Rams; that's the team that used to get curb stomped every year by the Vikings in the playoffs, didn't they sign Joe Namath when he was in a wheelchair?

Yeah; the Los Angeles Rams...……...here's a riddle for you; if the Los Angeles Rams went to the Super Bowl, would anyone in Los Angeles give a ****?

We'll find out in two weeks...…………………...good luck.

The Patriots are playing with house money as far as I'm concerned, beating the Chefs was sweet, winning the SB would be the icing on the cake.

How does this game remind you of the 79 Rams? They were the #1 team in the overall power rankings for several weeks this year, they finished 13-3, beat the Chefs in a shoot out, they are loaded, they somehow managed to sign a **** ton of top end talent on both sides of the ball and stayed under the salary cap.

They aren't some little train that could of a team.

They've got that fossil Wade Philips who was a tomato can of a coach for years, then he finally figured out how to stop the Patriots when he was the DC of the Donkos, I'm sure he'll go into his lab and whip up some formula that will combine the 2008 and 2012 Jints defensive game plans, then the corpse of CJ Anderson will run wild on the Patriots (he's 27; you're ****ting me right, I would have pegged him for 57) and Goff will channel his inner Opie and Folsie and play out of his mind.

Frankly I'll be stunned if the Rams don't win this game.

"I could have been a contentda",

you sound just like Brando...

"Jimmie Dean size."

that comment could come only from you...

I miss you man!

George, you have to admit, this is a **** funny post. And I mean no disrespect as Bill B. is a wizard, but I have thought of him as the Emperor in the past, sometimes the facial expression is a dead ringer! No offense as a Steeler fan, I can't think of Tom B. as Darth Vader, that title goes to James Harrison and I happen to like Darth Vader!!!

Yeah, I kinda figured that, wouldn't matter who the opponent is, everyone outside of New England hates the Patriots.

In the salary cap era that's rigged for parity, the keep rolling along, been close to 20 years of domination.

I get it.

They have 5 picks in the top 100 in this years draft, maybe when Brady retires in 5 years and Belichick steps down when he's 80 this will end.

We'll see.

Like the Canadiens of the NHL and the Yankees in MLB, they are the team everyone loves to hate.

Unless of coarse they were YOUR team, then it would be swell what they're doing.

To quote Tony Montana "Say goodnight to the bad guy"...……………………..

Yeah, that post is hysterical.

So it looks like it's me, Zach, Travis and Larry vs the rest of the toy soldier world, with Jason recognizing greatness when he sees it (Patriots=Warriors) and I'm sure Mike is laying dough down on the Patriots.

Oh well, C'est la Vie, C'est la Guerre.

Should be any saints fan on board with us too!

I don't disagree with that. The Rams have an incredible uphill battle in public perception and I think that can break 2 ways, it either drowns them or motivates them.

However, at the end of the day, as I said, the Pats are playing pretty good football and if they can stay consistent, they will win. One odd item to note, Brady is actually the weakest link right now ratings wise, ie you could actually say the Chiefs game came down to 1 play, if no offsides, that would have been 3 interceptions and he actually would be a literal GOAT!

Again, I believe the Pats will win the game and I stand by my prediction.

It seems that this thread is becoming a little contentious so I will drop out now and see you all on the 2019 thread later this year.
