N.F.L. Season 2018-19 (1 Viewer)

Brady has been selected to the Pro Bowl 14 times in his career but by choice, injury or rule has only played in 2 of them.

Not to take this thread off topic, but I went to the Celtics/Warriors game last night.

So a stacked Warriors team just added Cousins to the mix and they're 4-0 since he joined the line up, they've ripped off 10 wins in a row.

They are a machine, they hit 3's whenever they want, if not, they drive to the basket and draw fouls.

They'll steamroll through the playoffs again, probably 16-0.

Well coached, likeable bunch, can't hate on them, but I suppose NBA fans do anyway.

Because they win.

Gee, that sounds familiar...……………..:wink2:

What’s this “NBA” you speak of?

George:

I continue to compare the Warriors to the Patriots as the similarities are deep.

Just before the Warriors went on their current run they were terrible (understatement). In the last 41 games before Curry arrived they were 2-39. Nobody gave them a second thought. Ever since then they have becomes one of the most hated franchises in all of sports. Why? Because they win. Contrary to popular believe everyone does not love a winner, ie the Patriots and Warriors.

With that being said, the Patriots run is more impressive. The NBA is made for dynasties, small rosters, team friendly salary caps etc. You can see it with the Celtics, then the Lakers, then the Bulls, then the Lakers again, then the Spurs now the Warriors. The NFL does everything it can to avoid this and wants parity, large rosters and strict cap rules. Yet the Patriots have overcome that year in and year out.

Been in the league 17 years.

Been to the AFCCG 13 times.

Been to the Super Bowl 9 times.

Has won 5, if he wins a 6th, he'll join two other players who've won 6 NFL championships, the other two played back in the stone age when there was no Super Bowl, so he'll be the only player in the Super Bowl era with 6 wins.

Was injured and out for all of the 2008 season; that team was loaded and still finished 11-5 with a back up QB running the show, had he not gotten injured, he probably gets to another AFCCG.

A sixth round draft pick, was the fourth string QB here his rookie year.

Not some golden boy #1 first round pick.

But "Ace" thinks he's a cheater.

Good for you "Ace", Brady is a millionaire married to a super model, I really don't think he gives a rats *** what you or anyone else thinks of him.

Hopefully this isn't directed at me as I have never accused the Patriots or Brady of cheating. As a matter of fact I have railed against any accusation of cheating when it comes to the Patriots.

Brady is probably my favorite (Non-Niner) all-time player.

Absolutely not, "Ace" is the 10 year old Wyle E Coyote super genius who supposedly proved in his science fair project that Brady is a cheater.

Any kid who's name is "Ace" has a lot more to worry about that proving the greatest QB of all time is a cheater.

All,

I love this thread this time of year! I love the passion and especially George who will defend his team to his last breath. Brothers and Sisters, that is what a true fan is made of. George, can spit out stats, plays, controversies and wins from like 15 years ago AND a little "dish" at the same time. My hat is off to George this year and every year...who has never wavered from his love of his team...win or lose.

Honestly, I wish I could go to Georges house (if he invited me) and watch the SB there. Y'now it would be a treat and a Pats extravaganza unlike anything else in the world. If invited, I would bring some guac "avocados from Mexico" and some Julio's chips (local favorite), some Modelo Beer and a air pump.

John from Texas

PS: George, but could a 10 year old kid have it right? I mean give the kid some extra credit for researching the topic, presenting it, not being "eh-scared" and getting some national media attention to boot.

Thanks John, I appreciate it. I've said it a million times, but sports is the toy box of life, can't get too wrapped up in it, whether they win or lose on Sunday, on Monday I'll have the same amount of dough in the bank, I'll be a day older and life goes on.

Yeah, you'd get a kick out of me and my crew as we watch the games, we have a ball, there are about 12 of us, the food is great (but hey, I like what you're talking about, sounds great for sure, but leave the pump at home...…….:wink2:), the adult beverages are flowing as well as a few F bombs if things aren't going right, but it's still a fun time.

And again, win or lose, they are and will always be my team, whether they finish 18-1 (thanks for that Opie...………..and speaking of that, on the Tyree catch, he was in the grasp, play should have been blown dead, not to mention the two Patriots who were absolutely getting mugged on that play, but I digress) or 0-16, they are my team and yes, the cheating nonsense gets old, especially when someone tells me they are cheaters, then I ask them what Spygate and Deflategate exactly were all about and they look at me like one of my cats...……...:rolleyes2:

We'll see what happens; if they win, the region will go nuts, if the Rams win, LA will yawn, roll over and go back to sleep as out there, it's Dodgers, Lakers, a rabid Kings following and USC football...……….

and the LA/Anaheim/St.Louis/LA Rams.

Funny thing about LA , the lead stories were LeBron and the guy from New Orleans trade to the Lakers than about the Super Bowl. It is an odd town. I would like to see the Lakers get Anthony Davis, the NBA IMO needs a strong Laker team and they could be Showtime once again. I also think they need a strong East Coast team too.

Well, the NFL now has an official new scandal........................REFGate !!! WOW, articles out today digging up where the refs who blew the call in the Saints/Rams game live and that their "ties to California" influenced their lack of whistle blowing......huh, written like they have ties to the Sinaloa Drug Cartel? This is getting a little far fetched for me. And still no response from the Roger the Dodger Goodummy.

LA is an odd sports town. LA has two NBA teams, two NFL teams, two MLB teams and two NHL teams if you count the Ducks. Also two major NCAA teams in USC and UCLA. That is a lot of competition for media attention in one city. LeBron is probably the biggest sports celebrity in the entire country. A saturated market like that is somewhat different from a place that has the one team. And you can go to the beach instead of a game in December. Having been out there recently, I can say the Rams are doing fine. The Coliseum was packed and rocking. People there were ecstatic to have the Rams back. All the more once the new stadium opens. The Chargers are a bit different since they have been gone longer. The fan base could mostly take or leave them. They waited too long to make the move. Should have come in those lean years when the Rams were gone.

Their Kings fan base is a diehard/rabid one, plus the Dodgers and Lakers compete for a lot of attention. They also have major college programs out there, while a city like Boston has the BC Eagles, who outside of the Flutie years and maybe with Ryan are a tire fire.

Plus as you mentioned, so many other things to do there, sports is not the be all and end all like it is in other cities.

Also, people from the West Coast are much more laid back, they don't get all wound up over sports, much more casual life style than on the East Coast...…………...

I just saw quick clip of some of the Patriots news conferences. Quick tip of the cap to Edelman for the epic beard (spinach chin as George calls it).

It reminds me of the playoff beards that NHL players grow.

So, Atlanta is participating in the Super Bowl this year - albeit sadly, merely as the host city.

There have already been numerous warnings to us locals about the coming craziness. So far calmness has prevailed.

Interestingly, a fair amount of Georgia connections to the two teams.

Most notably, both big name running backs are former UGA-ers: Todd Gurley (LARams) and Sony Michel (NEP), who was a first round draft pick last year.

Rams Head Coach Sean Mcvay attended Atlanta private school, Marist. In my day Marist was known as the Jock private school - being perhaps a little less academically rigorous than other Atlanta private schools. He was their star quarterback, leading them to a state title in 2003 and beating out future NFL Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson as offensive high school player of the year. His college career was almost non-existent, however.

There are other GA players on the Rams and Pats but these stood out.

I’m guessing not too many locals will be rooting for the pats! 😉

No need now to watch the Super Bowl, Madden Sports game has predicted a Rams 30-27 win in their annual simulation....................................

yea...
I read that the other day...
I think the article said last year they picked New England...
and Philly won...
so we can watch the game...

You guess correctly is my guess. But since many transplants live in Atlanta, I suspect the Pats will have plenty of supporters around the city.

My cousin lives just outside of Atlanta, he went to the media day/night dog and pony show yesterday, he said it was a sea of red, white and blue with a Rams fan here and there sprinkled into the crowd.

He's trying to score tickets and if he gets me one, I can stay with him, if I can't get a flight, it's only an 18 hour or so drive, I can do that no problem.

We'll see...…...
