We can now see what Andy has been hinting at over the past year, when he has said that he was bring out some very special for us in the Napoleonic line.

To be stictly accurate its pre-Napoleonic, but who cares, its a fork in the road that I hope will be filled with more wonderful figures from this doomed campaign 1798 - 1801.

Lets see what we have so far....

Gen Bonaparte on his camel, a native guide, 3 infantrymen wearing striped revolutionary tricolour trousers, a dragoon??? and artist and a ruin.

A good start, and to these figures the existing K&C buildings, trees, arabs, animals can be also added.

But whats next ???

Will we see a Regiment of Dromedaires, Demi Brigades in thier multi-coloured Egyptian made uniforms, Cavary (but only 1 Hussar, 1 Chasseur a Cheval or 5 Dragoon Regts), Artillery and what about the enemy??? Will we see British, Mamalukes, Turks ???

So far the poses are quite static, like a group of soldiers discovering this exotic land, so I hope this theme remains, in that way a huge diorama could be made.

All I know is this will be VERY colourful, and hopefully not too large a range, thats IF Andy keeps the 1815 Waterloo NAP range going. ( hope he does)

Looking forward to getting these guys, but only after I've cought up the rest of the NAPs.

Well Done Andy & Team....

What to the rest of you NAP collectors think ???

John

Hey John, glad you got some Naps (pre Naps etc) in this months releases, they look very good to me and I will be watching where this range goes, having honeymooned there anything Egyptian appeals to me!.

Rob

Ive always wanted to collect a NAP line and this could be the one like the uniforms etc.

Ok, Mr. Dispatches, let's see some honeymoon photos now, since you've opened the door :smile2:

I would Brad, but in those days the camera was in its infancy and Howard Carter kept shouting at me to get out of the way!:wink2:

Rob/Mr Dispatches

Brilliant. I'm getting them all. The figures - not Rob's photos. :rolleyes2:

Guess I better stop spending my lunch money.

I am not a Naps collector, but Napoleon on the Camel looks like a piece people will desire long after it's gone. I may have to invest in one or two.

You will have noticed that I placed a number of Question Marks ????? when I listed the Dragoon on set NE10 because I was querying the Name and Description:

Name: The Artist & The Dragoon
Desc.: A military artist sits and draws some of the amazing structures before him… A standing Dragoon, shaded by an umbrella, observes the artist at work.

I think I know a Dragoon unifrom when I see one, and the French Armee had very few variation in the uniform from the 1760's until after the Napoleonic era, Green coat, with coloured turnback, lapels, collars and cuffs, wearing white or cream trousers and a brass helmet, so the figure represented isn't a dragoon.

Therefore not wanting to rock the K&C boat, I therefore would like to suggest that the figures is in fact a Guide de Bonaparte

A French language publication I have has an officer in this exact uniform, therefore, as usaul K&C has got a figure truly accurate with the uniform of the day, Well Done !!!

So Andy, are you going to rename NE10 to The Artist and the Guide de Bonaparte?

I'm sure it won't affect sales of theses figures, they are wonderful, but lets get the nomenclature correct :) :)

John.

By the way, if this is the inspiration for NE001, what else will be coming our way ???
:) :)

Andy, Many thanks for this new line. The figures are outstanding! By the way, I have the Wingate figure and love it. How about a figure of his father in the Sudan? This could be another collector club figure.

Very nice release indeed! We need a few mamelukes to bring some action! :)

Now NE003 is shown with an eagle on the flag he carries. I may be wrong but I thought that eagles appeared on Napoleon's regiments flags much later: in 1804 once he became Emperor...

It appears that you are correct on the eagle not being on the flag pole until 1804. The Egyptian Campaign was (1798–1801) Hopefully K&C will correct this figure before production.

The Eagle

The principal element of the new shield, this symbol of imperial Rome, Jupiter's bird, was associated from the earliest antiquity with military victory. The decree of 10 July, 1804 stipulates that the coat of arms of the emperor should be: " d'azur à l'aigle à l'antique d'or, empiétant un foudre du même " (azure with a gold, ancient eagle clutching a thunderbolt of the same colour). This eagle, very different from the motifs of traditional heraldry, also took elements from the Carolingian eagle. The day after the coronation, Napoleon had an eagle placed at the top of the shaft of every flag in the Napoleonic army.

I'm glad that someone else picked up this item .... I saw it too, but thought my first post about the supposed Dragoon was enough from me...... I didn't want Andy to think that I'm like those WW2 collectors who 'count rivets' on his tanks :) :)

I think the best thing to to for authenticity I'd carefully remove the Eagle, keep it in the spares box, and then add a pointy 'thingys' (what ever the spike is called).

Still this wont' stop me getting these figures..... they are great :)

John

I like this new series.....do not have any NAPS yet but this might get me interested .....^&grin

I don't collect this range but I really like the flag bearer (despite the expert comments about the eagle), I've been tempted just to collect flag bearers from all series. This figure might just push me over the edge.

I really like Napoleon on the camel. A lot of camels of late. I wonder how they might be used in the **ture in other series like WWI - maybe the Arab revolt?

My first step into Napoleonics will be with these, never thought I would touch this period, but at this point will only collect this desert campaign. Thanks K&C. Cheers, Robin.

The Egyptian campaign and "Early Empire" have been sorely neglected by toy soldier makers over the years. This range should be a real winner if Andy adds some French infantry and cavalry in action along with Mamelukes and Arab infantry. Will blend well with the Arab village and some Ancient Egyptian scenics.
Napoleonic collectors should be very happy as I am right now!!!!
We all know that the Waterloo range sells the best for Napoleonics but some diversity should help grow the entire line.
