Napoleonic Spoils of War! (1 Viewer)

Re: Spoils of War! Question??

I think its from the Battle of “Make Believe” :D :D

Jeff

lol, "make Believe is right" We Brits always gave them a good hiding, and like a punched out boxer, they kept coming back for more, never knew when to stay down. That's why Big Ron likes Napoleon always backs the losers DOH.

Seriously, isn't this set in the Peninsula campaign? After the retreat to Corunna or something similar?

Or, the first half-hour of any episode of "Sharpe"! The pompous aristo regimental colonel had botched things, lost a strongpoint or important crossing to the French, or let someone's wife or daughter go on a picnic and get trapped behind enemy lines. Then the Chosen Men were called in to save the day.

That's the second part of this vignette-the Rifles, peering over the ridge at the unsuspecting French below, just before chasing them off. All with the aid of a beautiful guerrilla leader, whose husband the French had killed, or something similar.

Prost!

Brad,

I think you are most probably right about the RtC, and also Sharpe :D

These have a lot of detail just as French troops then add the British bits n' pieces and this has the makings of one of the best sets that I have tackled for a while.

Thanks for taking an interest as usual.

Re: Spoils of War! Question??

The retreat from Corruna would work...Highlanders there. Looks like a dragoon or Royal Artillery helmet.

What colors are you painting the woman? Is she French or Spanish?

The helmet is a Light Dragoon one and the girl is a camp follower, so could be either, but green is the way to go!

Konrad,

I have added a bit more colour wise, some white and black. The white will require another coat and will be used on the cross belts etc.

Very good, Jeff, thanks for the update.
Now I am anxious to see the pink on the dancing Dragoon's chest.
Pink is a rare color in the military world :)

Konrad,

Pink it is then, this Dragoon is from one of four possible regts 13th, 15th, 16th or 18th, but we can't see the cuffs and cuff flaps as he is wearing gloves.

The tartan btw isn't very clear in these photo's but is a Gordon.

There is a lot to paint on these models but the detail is nice and crisp and raised, so this is making the painting some what easier.

I see that you're using the plumes to hold the figures whilst painting Jeff. Be careful they don't snap off, remember the turmoil the last time there were 'unplumed' figures.

Nice rich finish on the paint. Like the green bits.

Simon,

Luckily these have a nice solid feel to them and I hold them very gently. But I know what you mean ;).

There appears to be quite a lot of Green on this little lot, I hope I’ve got enough?

I somehow feel that you'll be OK in that department ;)

Yes, same as Simon I am pretty sure you could probably paint all Dragoons there ever were with your stash of "green" :D
That is going to be one colorful set of figures and looking better with every stroke of your brush. Awesome!

I noticed the Gordon tartan right away. Tradition figures again? You are so lucky. Very nice work as usual.

Love to get my hands on some of those. So many projects. So little time.

Hi KV,

Glad to see you back! These are more Tradition , but from their model soldier range this time.

Regards

Jeff

Hi, Jeff, yes, nicely done tartan! You're making it look much better than the traditional toy soldier level of detail for a plaid.

Prost!
Brad

PS--BTW, KV, what does the Transylvanian plaid look like? :)

A work in progress photo, but not much progress only the flesh parts today, when this has dried the other facial details such eyes and mouths etc will be added.

Jeff
