Narcos (1 Viewer)

I have seen the 10 episodes
Like it very much
Appreciated very much that when in South America peoples ar speaking spanish

Watched first two episodes and very good.

The scene on the bridge (see image below) where Escobar he is talking about the soldiers families sums up the corruption scenario pretty well. Even if you wanted to do you job difficult to do so when they can get your families.

In Hong Kong in the 60/70's the Police saying was you either got on the bus/train or were run over by it.

Binge completed ^&grin

Spoiler alert. It does not end well for Escobar.

Good news is looks like there will be a series 3 on the Cali cartel.

Might have to find and read Mark Bowdens book Killing Pablo about the hunt for him. Apparently there was a documentary done on it but not seen it.

Mys son got me into this series while watching it at my home. Pretty good. Chris

Just finished the book Killing Pablo by Mark Bowden.

Some interesting points.

The team depicted in the series flying in the aircraft and listening in was actually a US military unit then known as Centra Strike. This team was also deployed to Somalia to find the warlord who was captured in Mogadishu (as shown in Black Hawk Down).

At one point there were so many US agencies involved in hunting Pablo that there were 17 aircraft flying over Medellin. They had to deploy an AWACS to ensure they did not collide.

The CIA and Centra Strike were both trying to do the same job regarding listening in. It was therefore decided to have a competition to see who could fix a location by locating transmissions. Centra Strike won and was far better at it than the CIA unit.

Delta were deployed in the hunt and there is a suggestion they might have been involved in his killing (I don't think so even though they were in involved in some other operations). The actual location and killing was a bit of a surprise in that it happened at short notice after a Police Lt (son of the Colonel in charge of the hunt) saw Pablo in a flat.

147 Columbian Police killed during hunt to kill him.

Soon after the killing of Pablo there was an election in Columbia. The outgoing head of the DEA in Bogota was so disillusioned with the situation that he gave an unauthorised press conference showing the Cali cartel had donated $3.5 million to the incoming Presidents campaign. He even released the tape recording to prove it.

At one point Forbes listed him as 7th richest man in the world.

Binge watched series 3 which is about the Cali cartel which took over after Pablo Escobar's Medellin cartel was put out of business.

Still a good series but probably not as good as first. Basically the four main leaders of Cali made a pact to go hard on sales for 6 months and then surrender to the Government in return for favourable treatment and becoming legitimate. Some however were not that keen and another cartel looks to take advantage. Plenty of double crossing going on (ie. within cartel, army, politicians).

Agent Pena returns as head of DEA Columbia but this time there are things going on in the background that makes his job more difficult.

Next series will be covering Mexico.

I have yet to view the first series. I went to buy it on DVD and the sods wanted a small fortune for it so I decided to wait a wee while..........

Recent news about a Narcos TV series location scout being murdered whilst looking for locations in Mexico shows how lawless some areas in South America are. Dangerous work for DEA and local police in those countries. Problem is there is so much money involved and hence corruption then would not know who to trust.

Ive just started watching this series and it is excellent. Thanks for the recommendation!

The first three seasons that take place in Colombia were very good, the fourth that takes place in Mexico less so. One of the principal reasons was the acting of Pedro Pascal, who plays Javier Pena; he's not in the Mexico series.
