NBA basketball...................... (2 Viewers)

Thanks, my brother is still the biggest Cleveland sports fan I know, has memorabilia going back to League Park where Cy Young pitched. Watched him get his hope up every year and then something happens. He always stuck with Cleveland teams and was a die hard fan. He could not even talk last night when this happened, he was so choked up. He and I are still in shock. Waiting for something to happen to make them replay the game over and then the Cavs lose. I know it is impossible but it has been 52 years, most of my life and something always happened. I also thought LeBron was done with that wrist and thought here we go again. But so far so good. Chris

Chris,
Being a life long Red Sox fan, I feel your brothers pain, they lost three World Series in my lifetime, all of which were dramatic 7 game series, not to mention Aparicio falling down vs the Tigers in 72, costing them the division, the collapse in 74 as they blew a 7 game division lead to the LET'S GO O'S!!, the botched umpires call on Ed Armbrister in the 75 World Series, the blown 14 game lead vs the MFYs in 1978 and the home run in the playoff game by Bucky @#$%ing Dent, the ball going through Buckners legs in the 86 World Series, the Grady Little Brain Fart in game 7 of the 2003 ALCS again vs the MFY's which led to a game winning HR by Aaron #$$%ing Boone.

It was all worthwhile in 2004 as the Red Sox came back in the ALCS after being down 0-3 to the MFY's, first time in baseball history a team came back from down 0-3 to win a series and from there, they went on to win the first WS since 1918, the Curse of the Bambino was over.

Same for Cleveland; first team in NBA history to win a championship series after being down 3-1, that makes it all the more special IMO.

Tell your brother to soak it all in and enjoy it.................

Here in West Texas, A huge following for Golden State. I would assume due to our fairly close proximity to Cali. These young guys here in some of the local bars cheering and jeering the game on were
in disbelief that Cleveland came back and won the final 3 games in a row. Lebron and company puled through a tough deficit and performed as the pro players that they are....

The Lake Erie Monsters out of Cleveland won the AHL Calder Cup last week. That is technically a professional championship. So I'm giving them some credit for breaking the jinx although LeBron gets the bigger parade. I just hope no one sets the river on fire again like they did during the moon landing.

I grew up in Cleveland with my brother and even thought the 54 Indians was a year before I was born, it was still talked about like it happened yesterday, the famous over the shoulder catch that broke their backs in the 54 World Series. I saw the 64 Browns win and then had to watch the Cavaliers, Barons, Indians and my beloved Browns go for next 52 years without winning. I also saw in person the shot by Jordan (which seems to get played a million times), the Drive by Elway, the Fumble by Byner, 2 World Series tries, the closet was against the Mariners and so on. You had to be tough to be a Cleveland sports fan. It was always the Catch, The Shot, The Drive and The Fumble that summed up Cleveland sports. Now there is this championship, long time coming. The puzzle story is the best, right out of the movie Major League, loved it. Chris

Chris:

From a Warriors fan to a Cavs fan please accept my heartfelt congratulations. It was a great series, one for the ages in fact. LeBron not only brought Cleveland a championship but he did it against the best regular season team in NBA history.

Best,
Jason

The Warriors fell prey to the same bug that bit the Patriots: the quest for the perfect season, or in the case of the Warriors, the best record ever. In the end it meant nothing because they didn't win the championship. I'm sure that as in Patriotland, they want (or will want) to forget that season, focus on the ones (or one) that brought titles and wistfully think of the might have beens.

I've heard the idea floated that they were toast after pushing all season for the most wins ever; I can't agree with that. They were up 3-1 and in total command of the series, Green's nutpunch to LeBron and suspension was a killer, IMO they would have won the series at home in game 5 if he played.

Curry looked gassed last night, have to think he's injured, the loss of Bogut was huge, no inside defense after he went out, LeBron kept driving to the basket with no fear of any weakside help.

Thompson and Curry were 6-24 last night, the Warriors did not score in the final 4:30 of the game, a playoff low 89 points. Credit the Cavaliers defense for part of that, but they went cold at the worst possible time.

As far as the Patriots, they've won four super bowls, I would have been happy with one. Although they did not finish the deal in 2007, they still went 16-0, doubt we'll ever see a team go 16-0 again, that's 16 wins in the regular season, the most ever. The best anyone can do is tie that record.

That is unless the NFL goes to an 18 game season and someone goes 17-1 or 18-0....................time will tell.................

This is the article that triggered my post last night, Golden State Warriors Slipped Then Fell.

I remember thinking at the time (before the playoffs started), as probably did many, that the Patriots would have been better off losing a game or two. It looks like the same thing happened to GS.

Seen pictures of the parade in Cleveland on the news. Some Cleveland players did not have shirts on. Really, just one of the reasons I could not even tell you the cities that are in the NBA.

As I recover from the wedding we attended Saturday and the cookout we attended yesterday that ran late into the night/Monday morning, I noticed Durant has signed with the Warriors.

Wow.

For real?

So 73-9 wasn't good enough I guess as they blew the championship to LeBron and the Cadavers...................maybe go for 82-0 then.

With Duncan probably retiring and Oklahoma City now looking to burn it down and start over (bye bye Westbrook), they might as well just cancel the season and have the Warriors and Cadavers play each other 82 times.

NBA basketball; HOW EXCITING!!!!!!

When you don't win the title, you try to improve. That's what the Warriors did; they can't be faulted for trying to get better.

Signing Durant doesn't guarantee a title. As many teams in many sports have proved, just putting a collection of superstars together doesn't automatically lead to a title; the players have to mesh.

I don't find fault in what they did, the rich get richer as they say.

I'd be stunned if it isn't Cleveland/Golden State in the finals again, who is going to beat either one of those teams in a 7 game series to get to the finals?

My 2 cents.....
In the East I think the Raptors and Celtics can be competitive with Cleveland......and if the Knicks stay healthy they can give them a run as well. So much depends on LeBron's motivation as he has to carry his team more than any other super star.

The West, its hard to think anyone will overtake the Warriors but the Clippers can be very competitive if Chris Paul and Blake Griffin are healthy.

The Warriors have four of the best players in the NBA, a good bench and a good coach. Offensively they are a steamroller and if their defense improves good luck to any opponent.
Chemistry, as Brad pointed out, with four superstars may be a challenge but I think Kerr can manage that.
Staying healthy in the very physical NBA will be a major factor but I think George is right that the odds favor another Warrior V.S. Cavalier finals.

Gasol to replace Duncan is a nice move but not nearly enough in the west.....They'll win a lot of games but it won't matter with golden state, don't blame Durant, but how do they afford it? or the fans? guess it is one of the most expensive cities in the world, this ain't gonna make seeing basketball something for anybody but tech moguls in SF.

Durant signed a two year deal and today on sportstalk radio (you know, the stuff I listen to where all the conspiracy theories are hatched from)................they said he's going to opt out after one year and he'll get more money as the cap is going up in 2018.

I guess I know crapola about the NBA, I'm not sure what this opt out thing is, Lebron did it in Miami and also in Cleveland, I guess the end game is more money.

Who can blame these guys, careers are short and when you're making 26 million a year and have a chance at 28 million, then go for it, 26 million can't buy what 28 million can afterall..........:rolleyes2:

Durant has the option for the second year. Maybe he will get his ring and go to a higher bidder.

This is why I enjoyed watching my kids and nephews play High School sports more than I enjoyed the pro's!
Division 2 and 3 college also less influenced by money and benefits are fun to watch as well.
If you want to see the "best" athletes you watch the pro's....mostly on TV as who can afford tickets these days.

We live in a "Capitalist Society" so everyone is entitled to make as much money as they can legally.
I would rather see a team build from the bottom with solid draft choices and great coaching instead of paying tens of millions for free agents but
that's the name of the game these days. I assume the owners and the league still make plenty of money.
Maybe one day the fans will revolt and stay home but in cities like NY the big corporations and banks buy the expensive tickets for their wealthy clients.

We can always root against the stacked teams but the odds are against us.

The rumor mill here in Boston was if they landed Durant (yeah right; Boston is such a destination point, much like Miami and LA............:rolleyes2:), they were going after Gasol next.

What front court that would have been, would have been the 1986 Celtics part II, with Thomas and Bradley in the back court, I'd take my chances vs Cleveland.

Now they are talking about getting Westbrook; again, no chance......................they are doomed to be good enough to make the playoffs, bounced in the first or maybe the second round for several years, a horrible holding pattern for sure........................then Stevens will get sick of it and go back to coaching college, then they'll tank again and stink for a number of years...............................

I read today that Nate Thurmond had passed away. He was a real beast back in the day for Golden State.
