Ain't it amazing when the Lakers play????? Wow, where in the heck was that effort during the playoffs. If they keep their focus, they are pretty dadgum good. I just worry of a Game 2 letdown, they just blew Orlando's doors off last night.

Maybe they woke up in game six in Denver.

I don't expect game 2, 3 or 4 to resemble game 1 at all.

Orlando was embarrassed, I'm guessing they will respond.

I think they might have been a little in awe of their first final's appearance.

Howard, 1 for 6????:confused::confused::confused:

You know Orlando swept the Lakers both game in regular series.

They caught the Lakers coming of a 1 or 2 point game loss in San Antonio,

and then they caught the Lakers on a five game road trip,

but still,

they swept them, so they know how to beat them.

Close call for the Lakers. Two missed layups by Orlando in the last few seconds. Odom played lights out. I'm surprised Gasol has been able to handle Howard. His quickness and the double teams have taken Howard out of the game on offense making him a passer. Orlando is a poor passing team and has no fast break. That's makes it tough to beat the Lakers. I still think Orlando wins two at home and the Lakers take the series in six.

Game 2 has the lowest scoring quarter in the history of the NBA finals. In game 3 Orlando shoots the highest first half percentage in the finals. Weird stuff.

Game 3.

All the records are being broken.

Highest scoring percentage in history of NBA finals by Magic.

Poor Kobe, two turnovers in last 3 minutes, lots of missed free throws and missed clutch shots to boot.

THE PRESSURE IS GETTING TO HIM!!!!!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I think the Lakers will take game 4 straight up.

Orlando can't shoot 63% again.

I got lucky...............the line was Lakers +4 1/2..............whew!!!!!!!!

Orlando shoots the highest percentage in the history of the NBA finals, gets most of the close calls at home and still almost lose! Not a good sign for the Magic. Lakers take game 4. It may go 6, but can't see LA blowing the series.

Fisher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Orlando shoots 19-2 FTs in the 4th Q and OT and lose at home. Put the bubbly on ice.

Good call Doug,

The Lakers pulled one out of the fire last night.

When the Laker's 7 footers got in early foul trouble, I was rattled.

When Phil has to use Mbenga in the first quarter.................well.

I'm giving game 5 to the Magic and the Lakers will clinch at home by a good margin.

The fuuny thing is, well not that funny if you are an Oralndo fan, but right now they should be up 3 to 1 instead of down 3 to 1. Anyway, it's time ot pour water on the fire and call in the dogs, this party is over.

I don't know about this statement, I could argue that the Lakers should have swept them, Kobe missed 5 free throws and 8 or so shots in the 4Qtr in a 4pt loss. Sports at this level can go either way, all teams have ample opps to win. The only game that truly showed the Lakers full power was Game 1. I still would have rather seen a healthy Celtics playing the Lakers again this year.

End of the day, Lakers have more guns and firepower and should close this out.

Well perhaps, but in game 2 Lee missed a layup on the lob at the end of regulation and in the last game they were up by 5 points with 30 seconds to play, to my way of thinking that should result in a win.

Ed,

I think I have to agree with Doug and Tom.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda........................who knows.

The absolute bottom line.

The Lakers and the Celts had the best records, the best players and home court.

The Lakers were supposed to win this series.

The Celts had an excuse...........they lost Garnett.

Orlando has played remarkably well and will be a force next year.

I think Orlando will take game 5, in a close one, but will get dominated in game 6 at LA.

Ed, understood, but you got to ask, is that lob play a gimme? IMO no, that would have been a spectacular play had they made it, that may have looked like an easy layup, reality, his body was in a weird position when he caught the ball and his momentum was carrying him past the basket and out of bounds, not to mention the pass was a rocket.

I think a tell tale sign is the one I believe Doug brought up, Orlando shot 75% or something like that in GM 3, a record, yet they only won by 4 and Kobe missed all the free throws, etc. Again, I don't take anything away from the Magic, they are having a spectacular run, but I think the LA firepower is too much, but anything can happen.

Tom,
Quite a year for you; Steelers win the super bowl, Penguins win the cup, Lakers win the NBA championship..........so what team do you root for in baseball so I can bet my life savings on them as they are a lock at this point IMO...........

It's halftime, and Orlando is out of their game.

Ariza is 4-6, 2-2 on 3's, has 2 steals and 3 rebounds for 12 points.

Seems like when him and Turkoglu (nose to nose ready to fight) got the double T, Trevor turned it up a notch.

Turnovers and 3's are killing Orlando.

Orlando better play with a little more intensty or this may be over tonight.

Either way...........Go Lakers.

George,
How I wish, it has been a very fun year in my household and extended family (they are all from the Burgh). However, baseball is a very sad state of affairs as the Pirates have not won since Barry Bonds left, oh boy how he cursed us.

As for basketball, that goes back to when I was a kid with an aunt and uncle in LA. Imagine being 5 years old and getting A Magic Johnson jersey and autographed photo in the mail for your birthday. I became a quick study and figured out who Magic was, then I saw Kareem, Cooper, Jamaal Wilkes, Rambis and was hooked from that point on. And the battles against your Celtics are some of my fondest memories, so much so, I have made it a point to record every classic game to vhs and now dvd!

As a young basketball player, Magic Johnson was the bomb, being that big, yet able to dribble, shoot, move, etc, he was something. Take nothing away from Bird either, he was lights out shooting, never have seen anybody as accurate as him since.

Now, modern day, Kobe is not my favorite, I was a Shaq fan, he should have retired as a Laker, its just not right in my book, he will always be a Laker to me. I was very happy when he won with the Heat, it kind of served my Lakers their just dessert!

Tom

It was a good series.

I really expected Orlando to take at least 2 at home, but they are still a great team and will be a force to reckin with in the future.

I wonder if the Lakers would have fared as well against Lebron?

Congrats to Lakers fans, hope they don't desrtroy the city celebrating.

Congrats to the Lakers. They were humiliated last year in Boston and bounced back. I'm not sure this Laker team is any better than the one last year, but they caught a break playing Orlando. Championships are few and far between under any circumstances. So I'm sure they will enjoy it just the same. They all go up on the big board whether you beat Bird or Turkoglu.
