Wow, can't believe onone has posted a bball thread yet! MD down to AL 44-24 at 12 min mark. :redface2: Seems strange without Gary Williams courtside. Will take some time to rebuild this team. Gary left the cupboard bare.

Having moved to the Bluegrass country 16 yrs ago my adopted team UK Wildcats have a good shot at the championship this yr. UNC in two weeks will tell alot. SHould be a great game.

It was ugly and the game wasn't as close as the 62-42 final score indicates. UMD only shot 26.5% and the starters only combined for 25 points. This is going to be a long year for UMd b-ball. -- Al

Night and day. UMd looked like a totally different team in beating Colorado in their second game of the tournament, 78-71. Down by 8 at the half, the Terps scored 52 2nd half points with Stoglin getting 25 of them. Stoglin ended with a career high 32 points. The 3 Terp guards combined for 63 points against Colorado after scoring only 12 combined in the loss to Alabama in the first game of the tournament. Maybe the Terps can reach double figure wins this season after all:rolleyes2: -- Al

Just turned on the MD-Iona game. 35 - 27 Iona! Half time now 37-34. Terps better step it up.

My other two teams are doing well. Miss State (wife's school) beat two top 25 teams this week after losing to Akron. And UK is looking pretty good. Looking fwd to the UNC game!

That turned ugly. Iona wins 89-63. Terps were only down by 7 points the last time I checked in the second half. Sure went south fast. Second really bad loss in last 3 games. Ugh. -- Al

Terps actually closed to within 1, just to show how badly they fell apart. Chris

Jeez Chris, that sounds like like a historic collapse. Glad I missed it as my BP is already too high. How can a team be 1 point down ( and that must have been inside 10 minutes to go) and end up losing by 26 in so short a time? I've seen some ugly losses since becoming a Terp fan in 1968, but this must have been the topper. Like I said, glad I didn't witness it. {sm2} -- Al

Northwestern just went to 4-0 with a win over St. John to win the oh-so-prestigious Charleston Classic. We beat LSU and Tulsa to get to this point. Not too shabby!

Now we can get back to playing directional schools until the B1G 10 season starts.

Maybe THIS will be the year that we get to our first NCAA tourney...this doesn't hurt!

Md will get CRUSHED in this yr's Big Ten ACC Challenge. :redface2: It's the only time I will root for Duke.....maybe not! Chris

Al, since it's almost only you and I on this thread I will post off-topic. MD won their 8th NCAA Women's Field Hockey Championship. Third in row over UNC in OT. Score was 2-0 UNC with under 4 min to go. MD won 3-2. Can we trade this for some bball wins! ^&cool Chris

Not a bad idea, Chris. I don't think Title 9 will allow it, though. On the up side for UMd, the baseball and national ranked wrestling team have been saved, but some 8 other sports are in trouble. -- Al

Hi Chris. The paper this AM confirms UMd is cutting 8 of the 27 varsity sports programs. Getting the axe are; all 3 men's track teams (indoor, outdoor, cross-country); men's and women's swimming and diving; men's tennis; women's water polo; and aerobics and tumbling (aka competitive cheer). Don't see how this will help as the chosen victims all seem to be a low cost type sport in terms of equipment and training needs. Too bad for the people affected, but I guess money is money and is all important. -- Al

Wow, no track team. I bet there has been a track team since the beginning of the school. Have to ask, how much do track teams cost to operate? Same with the other sports. I guess travel is the thing. Probably sacrificed to pay for the bball and football coaches salaries. And at what a bargain, look at the quality return on those investments! Chris

MD loses by 9 to Illini. Poor foul shooting and only one three made in second half will do you in every time. Chris

The B1G 10 should go 4-2 tonight, including a nice win by Northwestern on the road.

Wisconsin and NC tomorrow should be huge...with hopefully the same result as Duke-OSU tonight!!

Looks like Big 10 goes three straight in ACC-Big Ten Challenge. :redface2:

Waitning for the UK-UNC game. Biggest game of the yr so far. UK by four. Go Wildcats! :) Chris

Good game so far. UK got their hands full. NC leads 43-35 with 2:00 left in the half. -- Al

Should have been 7 pt lead but for the blown dunk. Maybe Cats youth is showing. Lamb is a great 3 shooter but cold so far. Chris

That was a classic. Not used to seeing UNC make that kind of mistake at the end of the game, ie., not fouling. UK got fortunate when they gave up the 3 on the blown possesion and then missed the front end of the 1&1 to give UNC the chance to win on the last shot. Fortunately, the UK defense came through. -- Al
