It's almost that time again. The days are getting shorter, the temps are starting to fall, and the criminal investigations have begun. So college football season must be here. Urban Myers is the top story. I have some sympathy for coaches that are somehow supposed to police the conduct of hundreds of players and coaches. At the same time, destroying evidence and outright lying to protect himself should have resulted in a firing. The three game suspension is just a way for the alums to retain the golden goose.

The whole Urban Myer story has made me lose my stomach when it comes to college football.

Wild game between Hawaii and Colo. St. last night. CS had over 500 yards passing and still managed to lose. It was like a video game. Guys running open 40-50 yards downfield time after time. The D coordinators need to refund their paychecks.

A couple of good ones coming up. To the picks:

Texas 49 MD 10 - the Horns get revenge for their embarrassing loss last year.

Auburn 37 Washington 24 - Top ten matchup. The PAC looked mighty soft in the bowl games last year. No chance for the Huskies on the road. Old Yeller time.

ND 27 Michigan 17 - UM has no offense.

Tennessee 31 WVA 24 - the Vols are overdue. I say that every year and they get crushed.

Considering the turmoil that the Terps football program is in, I'll be surprised if the score is that close. :rolleyes2: -- Al

College football is always wildly unpredictable but the first week even more so. MD had a lot of great looking athletes at QB last season but they had a ton of injuries. I haven't followed the off season saga, but if some of those guys return and are healthy they might have a shot. I'm not a huge Texas fan so I'm hoping the Terps put up a fight. My mighty and fully NCAA compliant USC Trojans are going to Austin in a couple of weeks with a true freshman QB.

Terps are fighting several problems; the death during a practice of a teammate; the problems caused by the death in terms of leadership, ie., the head coach placed on leave during the follow-up investigation, his being replaced by an assistant coach; accusations of a toxic atmosphere fostered by the coaching staff; transfers because of said problems; all sorts of accusations from those that don't support the head coach being at odds with those that do support the coach. None of these issues has been resolved. I don't see how the program will react positively with all this distraction. -- Al

Hey, hey, hey! I am very offended you did mention powerhouses Georgetown vs Marist! 😁

Well, it's that time of the year when I realize I don't have enough TV sets to feed my sports addiction. I'm going to have to restrict myself to only 6 college football games and 2 MLB games today. Kickoff at noon clear through to the final gun at around 2am Sunday. It will be tough going but I know I can do it, as long as the food holds out.:rolleyes2: -- Al

The Terps are hanging tough. In fact, it looked like they were going to give the Horns a knockout blow at 24-7 but have let them back into the game. Big Mo seems to be with Texas at the half.

I am shocked that the Terps have played so well. Don't know how it will all end, but they have already done far better than I ever thought they would. -- Al

Spoke too soon. Terps are collapsing. Chris

MD forces 2 turnovers late in the game and gives the ball back with conservative play calling.

Chris, wonders will never cease. Didn't think there was anyway the Terps could win this game, but like last year, they open up with a stunning upset of Texas. Amazing. -- Al

Both last year and this year it was apparent that MD had better skill athletes than Texas. Pretty shocking how awful the Texas QB is in the land where football is king. He stinks on ice. Congrats to the Terps. They were the better team.

3 late Texas turnovers did not hurt.:smile2: UM coach criticized the offense, like his play calling wasn't at fault. But I'm with you Al and pleasantly surprised. Chris

Congrats to the Terps. Maryland beat Texas in every aspect of the game, most of all when it comes to coaching. I am tired of hearing how great the Texas recruiting classes are and I am even more tired of hearing how Tom Herman is such a a great coach. Football coaching is more than X's and O's. You need to make sure your players do more than simply show-up for the games.

Texas is the only ranked team to lose to an unranked team in week 1.

Alabama blows out UofL, as expected. Is this the yr Saban surpasses Bear Bryant's record of national titles? They are tied at 6 a piece now. The Tide has stumbled previously when appearing unstoppable even though we're only one game into the season. Looks like the quarter back issue is resolved. Chris

Roll Tide! Roll Tide Roll!
I can't remember a Bama quarterback with such an arm.
The ground game seems strong as well. Hopefully injuries won't be a problem.
Bama fans are getting spoiled by Saban. With all the talk about Nick, I still miss Bear's wishbone. I still miss the aura of what for me as a kid was a living legend.
