Roll Tide! Roll Tide Roll!
I can't remember a Bama quarterback with such an arm.
The ground game seems strong as well. Hopefully injuries won't be a problem.
Bama fans are getting spoiled by Saban. With all the talk about Nick, I still miss Bear's wishbone. I still miss the aura of what for me as a kid was a living legend.

Mike, there's a new sheriff in town, and a new living legend unfolding. Enjoy the ride! Chris

You should meet my brother, a Bama Alum who attended the school during Bear's reign and who collects Bama football stuff like a religion. His goal in life is to retire to Bama, live near the campus and continue to soak up the atmosphere and life-style of Roll Tide. Needless to say, Bear is his favorite, and he lives for Bama football every weekend. He is within 2 years of his goal.:wink2: -- Al

I didn't watch the entire game last night, but Florida St. looked awful. They may have gotten a few bad calls, but you can tell when a team has no confidence and is poorly coached. They were lost out there. First week is always wildly unpredictable though when you get beyond the cupcake games.

They looked great in those uniforms, but played like crap, their QB is awful, that last INT he threw looked like an Oklahoma Sooner QB trying to complete a pass in the 1970's vs running the option.

Speaking of awful, the "U" looked like hot garbage vs LSU; they were ranked 8th, really?

It's ok, they now play the march of the tomato cans the rest of the way...……………………...

I am not going to make excuses for FSU, the D held them in it til 1136 in the 4th, they really could have been blown out at half. That said, the O is just lackluster. The new scheme coupled with a rusty QB is not looking good at all. I think its going to be a long year, maybe more. They have a long way to go. It was tough to watch. Crazy thing is if they convert 2 times in the RZ out of however many million opps they had, it is a down to the wire game. That is what is fun about College FB. End of game, they stunk up the joint.

And Michigan, good lord that is an inept offense, Jim H. better fix that quick or he is unemployed for sure. And the Terps, I don't know if they are good or if Texas is just the most perennial over rated team in college at the beginning of every year. Alabama looks unstoppable yet again. WVU stuffed TN, holy smokes, only bad thing is WVU lost their 3rd Starting LB to injury for the season, that might be a killer

I remember a few years ago when Nick Saban mentioned the fact that pre-season rankings were useless, he said that the rankings should be released once conference play begins. In that same press conference he took a shot at the media saying the early rankings were made to hype match-ups and teams by reporters and TV networks.

Hence you get the illusion of an upset when Miami loses to LSU.

Jim Harblow apparently brought his 1922-style offense from Stanford over to UM. It's not working. He plays in a tough conference where every team is physical. You can't just run up the middle and win games like he was able to do in the PAC where he could dominate finesse teams. WVA seems to make noise every year until they run up against an actual top ten team and then get rolled. The mascot in the coon-skin hat always looks like Crockett at the Alamo when they are taking a beatdown. It's a long season though. Some teams that look awful during week one make vast improvements. Last year MD came out like world beaters against Texas and then went into a funk while Texas finished up in decent shape. College football is maddening that way.

A light slate of good games this weekend. Quite a few cupcakes. But the picks:

Georgia 37 South Carolina 14 - the Gamecocks haven't been right in a long while. They get Dawg stomped at home.

Penn. St 41 Pitt 31 - Penn St escaped disaster last weekend. Pitt always seems to play them tough.

USC 27 Stanford 24 - SC had the furds number last season but a true freshman at QB going on the road will be a real test. If Stanford can dominate the line and ugly the game down as they have in past years, it will be a long night for the mighty Trojans.

ASU 38 Mich St. 34 - The Spartans did not impress last week. They bring their thick Nordic blood into the desert and get the pitchfork from old Sparky.

This is Stanford's first game of their 2018 schedule vs. three #21's. USC, UCLA and Cal are all tied for 21st in the US News and World Report academic/educational rankings.

Speaking of UCLA they are going to take a spanking today against Oklahoma. That one might get ugly. Chip Kelly may eventually get things turned around but he seems to have lost his mojo. No matter how many times he fails, though, someone else will be waiting with millions to hire him. Coaching is a good gig.

I'm guessing the new fad uniform is gray and white. Tuned in the Duke/Northwestern game and thought I had the wrong channel. Recognized Duke ok, but NW was in some gray and white abortion. I mean, where was their purple? Tuned in to watch Navy/Memphis and sure enough, Memphis was in some gray and white abortion of a uniform. I don't really mind gray and white in combination, but it doesn't have any pop on TV. -- Al

Most of the competitive games are tonight. USC-Stanford should be a good one. Interested to see how the fresh QB handles his first road game. The SC freshmen receiver Amon-Ra may be a superstar when all is said and done. Some weird, cupcake games on now. Wash vs. North Dakota. Yikes. Slim pickings on a wet, dreary Saturday afternoon.

Rot-Row.....Kentuky may actually beat the Gators....in Gainesville at that which I believe hasn't happened since 1979!!!!

Watching MSU vs. ASU right now. In the middle of the the 3rd it is 6-0. I'd like to tell you that it is a defensive struggle, but it seems more like offensive ineptitude for both teams. Or maybe it is the heat? The current temperature in Tempe is 95 degrees at 9:45 pm.

Well FSU land is not going to be fun one this year, last night we watched on the extended ESPN app (you have to love internet tv, it is like a college season pass nowadays) the mighty Seminoles come from behind and then a pick 6 to hold off that titan of a football powerhouse Samford................at home. Oh boy, long season coming up.

TD

Good day for the locals as UMd Terps got their act together and won big, and then the USNA Middies got their first win in a gutsy 4th quarter comeback in a downpour to beat Memphis. -- Al

The only bright spot for the PAC this year is ASU beating Mich. St. Going to be a long year out west. USC and Washington already have a loss. UCLA and AZ stink on ice. Stanford is running the 1922 playbook. No one in the PAC could stay within four TDs of Bama or any top ten team. USC may lose to Texas next week by 30 points. They looked anemic against Stanford.

The SEC East seems to be weaker than ever so far this year (IMO) and the best team in the state of Florida is UCF. A&M Had Clemson swearing. Is A&M that tough or is Clemson just still in the early stages of the year?

One of the often reported stories this weekend was UK beating Florida after 31 yrs. :smile2: Florida is bad but Dan Mullens will turn them around. UK has a narrow window of opportunity and used it. Chris

A&M has a tough home crowd and a good coach. They probably win that game without the questionable fumble out of the end zone call. I had never given it much thought but don't see why a team loses possession if they fumble the ball out of the end zone but not if they fumble it out of bounds on the sideline. It's a really odd distinction to make. There is no recovery when the ball goes out of play. Either way the ball just ends up out of bounds. Why not give it back to the team that fumbled at spot of the fumble rather than making it a turnover because it happens to go out of the end zone?
