NCAA Football - 2018 (1 Viewer)

A fairly lame slate of top twenty games this weekend. The picks:

Alabama 49 Texas A&M 20 - any expectation that because A&M gave Clemson a game that this will be close goes out the window. On the road A&M is not the same team. They get blasted but maybe hold Bama under 50 for the first time this season.

Oregon 31 Stanford 28 - Going to roll the upset dice. Stanford's 1920's style offense might not cut it on the road. They will have to score more than 20 points to win this game.

Wake Forest 27 ND 24 - double down on the upsets. ND hasn't looked too great recently. They may put a beatdown on WF but maybe not.

Michigan 10 Nebraska 7 - a sad spectacle from two of the historically elite programs. Both are struggling. Johnny Harblow coaches UM to a one TD victory over the Huskers in the Ugly Bowl.

I'm interested in seeing how Army fares against Oklahoma this weekend. Not expecting them to win, but would like to see how they stack up overall.

My other must watch is ASU/ Washington. Tough watching Pac-12 here on the east coast- the SDSU/ ASU game last weekend was back and forth. Both teams seemed to be unable to punch it in.

I agree on the WF/ ND game. I think this could be the upset of the week.

Army gave #5 Oklahoma all it could handle and lost the game in a heartbreaking manner in OT. It was a heartbreaking day for the Navy as well, also losing in OT on a successful 2-point conversion by SMU. Tough weekend. -- Al

Watched the UMd Terps disgrace themselves against previously winless Temple. Terps were never in the game, losing 35-14, with their only scores coming on defense and special teams. The offense was a no-show, a total disgrace on their home field and their home opener, managing less than 200 yards total. Hard to believe they beat Texas and had over 550 yards offense against Bowling Green last week. I fear we have seen the best the Terps had to offer in their first 2 games and it's all downhill from here with 3-9 or 4-8 a likely final record.:rolleyes2: -- Al
Can't figure UMd out, so far. After last week's clunker against formerly winless Temple, the Terps took formerly undefeated Minnesota to the woodshed yesterday, beating them 42-13. Minnesota had only allowed 27 points in their 3 wins and I figured the Terps to be win #4 for them. UMd may actually have a shot at a .500 season, which would be something of a success considering that their schedule contained 5 Top 25 teams. It all depends on which Terp team shows up game day. :rolleyes2: -- Al

UK beats #14 Miss State, two ranked teams in a row. Now 4-0, UK should be ranked for first time since 2007. Chris

Great wins for Stanford and Texas this weekend.

Oregon and Stanford was the game of the day. The Ducks had a massive choke. That one is going to linger for a long while. Nebraska made UM look like the return of the four horseman. There are some real dumpster fires going on in college football around some major powers: Nebraska, UCLA, Tennessee, Florida St., Arkansas are looking rough.

Saw that score, Chris, and knew you would be pleased. Pretty neat. -- Al

Considering the admittance and academic restraints that the service academies face, just being competitive against teams like Oklahoma is a huge win.

Auburn gets the win. Defense and Special Teams played decent enough. O-line has played as soft as Charmin the past two weekends and our play calling is sub par at best. Hoping the Offense comes along before we hit the big boys of the West. And congrats to Kentucky for their fast start and their spot in the Top 25. It could very well be a showdown for the East when they take on thUGA if they can get past A&M.

Finally getting a few big matchups this weekend. The playoff effectively begins:

West Va. 44 Texas Tech 40 - should be a shootout. Normally that would be good for TT but WVA is impressive. Great QB.

Ohio St. 30 Penn. St 24 - State College will be rocking. A tough nut to go in there and get a win this weekend. Particularly with Warden Myers just returning from his suspension. But the Buckeyes are too good and win by the hair on their chinny, chin, chin.

Notre Dame 30 Stanford 20 - just when I had written both teams off Stanford discovers the forward pass and ND plays like the four horseman returned from the grave. Home field for the Irish and a draining game for Stanford last week makes the difference.

Washington 40 BYU 17 - on paper this is a top 25 match up but at home the Huskies win big.

James Franklin has got to be the most annoying coach in NCAA history. It absolutely drives me insane watching coaches run around high fiving and pumping up student sections and the 800 million other things that buffoon does during PSU games. Just coach dude, let the students and athletes do their thing and have their fun. you got your a-- handed too you at USC two years ago and you still haven't stopped this nonsense.

And an offensive game plan does not consist of your QB running for 180,000 yards in a game- that's called having an offensive line that couldn't find a block if they were dropped in the middle of a quarry.

At any rate, my boys at ASU won big. My wife blames me for not rooting for PUS as the reason why they lost lol

I am just pissed he blew it for second year in a row with Ohio State (I am not an Urban fan), not a Penn St. fan either!! BUT, if you don't want him, I am sure the Terps would love to redo history and hire him like they should have! I would rather have a fired up guy any day of the week then what we have at FSU - Taggert continues to look like a deer in headlights.

I am not a big fan of the rah-rah celebrations from coaches either but Franklin is a class act. Following a tough loss to Michigan State last year some of Penn State players didn’t want to shake hands with their opponent, but Franklin wanted his team to shake hands, even if it was a tough upset. He chased down the players who left the field and had them shake hands.

I really like his quote following the game:

“We are going to win with class and we are going to lose with class,” Franklin told reporters in his postgame press conference. “We are going to shake peoples’ hands and give them credit because they deserved it.”

Oh I certainly agree. I do without question. I also don't mind mixing it up and having some fun with the players but I do believe he takes it to the extreme to the point where he is a detriment to the team. He did that stuff during the miracle run two years ago and should have learned from it. In my opinion, it distracts himself and the staff and they get a false sense of security. It never fails that he does that stuff in the second quarter and I think it gets the team to lose focus and concentration. The end result is you get what happened Saturday.

My wife and I are both PSU grads and my son, God willing if he gets off his backside, will finish up sometime before I am six feet under. The Sandusky incident is still firmly embedded in my mind. I see all this carrying on on the sidelines as someone who may not- and God forbid that crap ever happens again-be able to distance himself from the perpetrators and do the right thing. I want someone who is a bit cold and calloused who will be able to distance himself from the heinous acts that might occur and do the right thing.

The best result is that it simply never happen again at PSU or anywhere else.

Bad day for the locals as the Terps got mashed by #5 Michigan (no surprise there) and the USNA Middies lost to Air Force. That one surprised me a bit, not so much the loss, but the way they lost. The Middies looked terrible, just totally outplayed and looked clueless. Can't remember a less impressive effort by Navy in a long time. -- Al

I never thought Utah would be the downfall of my college football hat trick (a Stanford win, a Texas win and a Cal loss) but they beat the Cardinal 40-21 and it wasn't even that close. :(
