NCAA Football - 2018 (1 Viewer)

Bad day for the locals as the Terps got mashed by #5 Michigan (no surprise there) and the USNA Middies lost to Air Force. That one surprised me a bit, not so much the loss, but the way they lost. The Middies looked terrible, just totally outplayed and looked clueless. Can't remember a less impressive effort by Navy in a long time. -- Al

Watched that one(USNA) with my brother in law, an academy grad, not pretty. Chris

Some good ones on this raw day. I'm going with a lot of home cooking in the picks:

LSU 27 Georgia 24 - Game of the day. Can't see LSU losing twice in a row.

Michigan 20 Wisconsin 17 - a pick 'em game.

USC 38 Colorado 27 - the mighty Trojans knock off the last undefeated PAC team. Big game for the PAC South.

Washington 41 Oregon 27 - the Ducks will put up a fight but the Huskies are the better team.

The good news for ND is that a bunch of undefeated teams bit the dust this weekend. The bad news is if they make the playoff, they may get Bama. That's a 40+ beatdown waiting to happen. WVA really blew it. They were is position to move up into the hunt. Now they are toast.

...WVA really blew it...

So did Penn State. They made too many mistakes and gave the game away. And they couldn't capitalize on Michigan State's mistakes MSU fumbled four times and recovered it themselves each time.

Prost!

Penn. St. seems to lose a lot of close games. Either bad luck or poor coaching. They are toast as well but I think a lot of good teams are better off avoiding the playoff and getting a bowl game they can win. Bama may be the greatest college football team in history this year when all is said and done. I don't see anyone that could stay within 5 TDs of them if they play their starters for the entire game.

I watched the Red River Rivalry...
Texas was lucky to escape with a victory...
after the Sooners 21 point 4th qtr rally...

MIKE,

I don't want to hear all that lucky chit...they are balling this year! I have a feeling you are sweet on Oklahoma since you went to SMU and all.

Your neighbor,

John

Some interesting games this weekend that could go either way.

Mich. St. 24 Michigan 21 - MSU has been in a funk but pulled out a big win last weekend. That usually spells doom for the next game but I think at home they expose Michigan.

Clemson 48 NC St. 17 ) - I didn't even know NC State played football but they are ranked #16. That ends with a major beatdown.

LSU 30 Miss St. 14 - LSU is coming off a huge win. Could be a letdown but they look good. Maybe the only team that has a chance against Bama.

Wash. St. 44 Oregon 41 - the Ducks have been playing well but on the road Team Nike comes up short. I was almost blinded by their electric yellow unis from last weekend.

A bonus pick:

USC 31 Utah 24 - huge game in the PAC South. An SC win means they likely win the division title setting them up for a major bowl beatdown against any decent team. I think the Utes are the favorite though.

Time to pick 'em. The wet, cold, miserable weather on the east coast should make for some fun games so long as you are on the couch and not in the stands.

Georgia 51 Florida 14 - a major beatdown by the Dawgs. Bet the farm that the Gators are overrated.

Penn St. 24 Iowa 10 - the weather should be a factor. Rain and misery for the fans.

Stanford 24 Wash St. 20 - I like the trees at home.

Clemson 45 Florida St. 10 - FSU has shown some signs of live, but not this weekend. My prediction is doom.

UK down by 2 TDs late in 4th qtr. Runs a punt back for a TD. Gets the ball with 1:25 to go on their own 19 and move down field. Pass to end zone incomplete as time expires. Pass interference called and makes a 2 yd pass to win! Cats are 7 - 1, 4- 1 in SEC. Tied with Georgia in SEC East, who they play next week. I have no illusions about that so I'm going to enjoy the week. ^&grin. Chris

How is Michigan No. 5? They have not beaten a single team that is ranked in any of the polls?

John...

I have no love for the Oakies...
and no hate for the Longhorns...
but you must not have watched the 4th qtr...

Texas had some really bad series and almost blew a 21 point lead...
they had 4...4th quarter possessions...

3 plays for 2 yards...
6 plays for 20 yards...
3 plays for -4 yards...

the Oakies tied it up at 45 each when they dominated the 4th quarter...

before Texas had a field goal drive to escape with a 3 point win...

I had Texas + 6 1/2 and had to sweat out a win in the 4th quarter...

a huge win for Texas...
but you gotta play the whole game...

yea...they were lucky...and I was too...

Interested to hear the MD folks thoughts on the reinstatement of Durkin?
Jason, IMO it's a huge public relations disaster. Durkin may or may not be a scapegoat for the whole tragedy, but the perception is that as head coach he is ultimately responsible. The decision make the university look lame and unresponsive, fair or not to Durkin. The buck stops with the head coach on a football team. Durkin also now has a locker room respect problem as reports are several players walked out on his first team meeting on his return. I don't see why he even would want to return to what is essentially a no-win situation for him. -- Al

Now a moot point as UMD has announced it has bought out Durkin's contract, meaning he has been fired. Trust UMd to do the right thing only after they did the wrong thing, a typical CYA from the wonder that is the UMd Board of Regents.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Al:

That could not have been handled worse, hopefully the family of Jordan McNair can find some solace now.

I didn't realize what a mess the UMd was until Dreisell was forced out to be replaced by the disaster that was Bob Wade (thank you John Thompson:mad:). -- Al

2018 team record of 5-3 is amazing considering the cloud of turmoil that has hung over the players heads the entire season.

As many of you know, I disavowed my Alma Mater because of the Ralph Friedgen debacle and the way he was treated and then the subsequent James Franklin screw up. As Al said, UMD bad decisions go back to Bobby Ross and Left Driesell. SO, why would this be any different? It should have been. The entire coaching staff should have been fired and the house should have been rebuilt. The fact that Jordan McNair died on their watch is inexcusable as well as it is a systematic and individual failure, they all should have been gone. IMO.
