NCAA Football - 2018 (2 Viewers)

As many of you know, I disavowed my Alma Mater because of the Ralph Friedgen debacle and the way he was treated and then the subsequent James Franklin screw up. As Al said, UMD bad decisions go back to Bobby Ross and Left Driesell. SO, why would this be any different? It should have been. The entire coaching staff should have been fired and the house should have been rebuilt. The fact that Jordan McNair died on their watch is inexcusable as well as it is a systematic and individual failure, they all should have been gone. IMO.

The history of absolute incompetency surrounding athletics at UMd is astounding. Thinking back, I now remember the Bob Ward controversy in respect to his tenure as head coach of the football team in 67 and 68 and how he was forced out in 69. No support from AD Kehoe, as is typical of UMd AD's. It's a wonder anything good manages to come out of there but it has. -- Al

2018 team record of 5-3 is amazing considering the cloud of turmoil that has hung over the players heads the entire season.
Jason, I thoroughly agree with this. I never thought the team would come close to 5 wins with all the distractions. They have 4 games left and a shot at bowl eligibility, but it is a slim shot at best. 3 of the 4 games remaining are against MSU, #10 OSU, and #14 PSU. The other game, against Indiana, will probably determine their fate as far as a bowl game goes. Bowl game or not though, the team has already had what must be considered a successful year, despite the idiocy at the top of UMd. -- Al

And then there was Debbie Yow........:rolleyes2:

Thanks. I had managed to block THAT particular disaster from my memory. What a disgrace. -- Al

This just in... U of Maryland System Board Chairman (whatever that is) has resigned over the Durkin disaster. The saga of UM athletics continues. {sm3} Chris

Al:

Great post.

No doubt a bowl bid is the goal but as a college football fan I am already impressed by this team and their 5 wins one of which was a decisive victory over UT.

I will be cheering for them the rest of the way.

Today's Game O' the Century is Bama v LSU at 8pm. Be there or be square. Lots of good games today. -- Al

I am still watching college football. Cal is playing Washington State in the 2nd quarter and Hawaii just got started as they are hosting Utah State.

Clemson, Notre Dame, Georgia etc. picked the wrong year to be good. 'Bama has already won the championship.

Ain't that the truth. LSU slowed them down a bit, just like a bump in the road might slow down a speeding car.:rolleyes2: -- Al

WVA and Texas was a classic. Big move going for two on the road to win it. When that works the coach is a genius. Bama may be the greatest college football team in history. They could play with many NFL teams. Their numbers are outrageous. This was the first game of the season where they didn't score a TD on their first drive. No INTs from their starter before this game. They rolled against maybe the second best team in front of a hostile crowd. They look unbeatable right now. ND has struggled with teams like Vanderbilt and Northwestern. They lose by 60 to Bama. Clemson is the only team that might have a shot.

Another bad day for the Middies and Terps. Middies lose and are now 2-8. The Terps loss was especially bad. They were down by 2 with about a minute left, at midfield and trying to move into FG range when they fumbled the ball away. Basically flushed their season as it leaves them at 5-5 with 2 games left against #10 OSU and #20 PSU. Little chance they can get that 6th win against either of them. Terps still should be proud of their effort this year, considering all they have been put through. -- Al

Still no CFB hat trick for me. Stanford and Texas win while Cal refuses to lose when the Cardinal and UT win. :(

A heart breaker for UM today. overtime loss with a missed two point try missing an open receiver. :redface2: Chris

Heartbreak for the Terps today, losing to #10 OSU 52-51 in OT. Terp Qb missed the open receiver on the 2-point conversion in OT that would have given UMd the win. It was a tremendous game if you like offense. OSU racked up 688 total yards, UMd 535. The game was a barn burner from the get-go. UMd had an 81 yard TD run on it's 2nd play from scrimmage, followed by a 75 yard TD run on it's 4th play from scrimmage, both carries by McFarland. Terp RB McFarland had 298 yards on 21 carries. Never expected UMd to ever be in this game and felt they would be doing well to avoid being shutout. They sure fooled me, and Urban Meyer. UMd showed real guts going for the win in OT, but it wasn't to be. Even so, it was a brilliant showing by the Terps. -- Al

Middies beat Tulsa to make their record 3-8 going into THE game against Army on Dec. 8. Been a down season for Navy and a real good season for Army (9-2). The series currently stands at 60-51-7, Navy leads. Army has won the last 2 games and will certainly be favored in this one. As always, it is my favorite game of the season. Always root for Navy but there are no real losers. A great tradition with lots to see and enjoy. Go Navy, beat Army! ^&grin -- Al

Being from MD and brother-in-law is USNA grad, I always go with Navy. They're a long shot this yr but you never know. :wink2: Chris

UK wins against Middle Tenn, :rolleyes2: to go 8-3 on the season. Team is made up of extreme opposites on both sides of the ball. Defense has been rated top 5 nationally, while offense is ranked 119th. A win against dumpster fire UofL would make this the best Wildcat season in 40 yrs. Chris
