Well Done....

I am SO pleased that a new 25 Pounder Mark II QF Field gun has been produced, and that it looks like the real thing !!

Compare that with the old one....

EA004.jpg

The very import details are there, like the gun in firiing postion is on its firing platform, and the sheid is raised and no muzzle break.

In the travelling position, the platform is raised and located under the tail.

I can forgive that the shield is still up, and I hope that the barrel can move, and so be located in a high postion when travelling.

The gun crew are also well sculpted and in thir correct postions, with the No 4 loader holding the projectile and the No5 with the cartridge case, because they were loaded separately.

The only think thats not right is that the No2 gunner, holding the rammer is painted as a Sergeant !!!!!!!

The gun sergant commanded the gun, and would be behind the gun, the No2 should be a Bombardier, so a quick demotion would suffice (with a fine brush of khaki paint) to give him 2 stripes.

Because the gun is commanded by the Sergeant, the gunner with the raised hand ( painted as an officer) should also be demoted and have 3 striped on his arms.

Many makers seem to produce gun sets with officers, and thats SO wrong, because on the gun position only few officers are used, mainly as section commanders of 3 guns, or in the command post, while the other gunner officers are located with other corps and used as Forward Observers to call in fire missions.

Now that this gun has been made, I do hope that K&C will also release it in desert sand colour with a crew in shorts and bare chested, to lay down the barrage at El Alamein in 1942.

WELL DONE K&C.

John

P.S. I served on these guns in the RAA in the 1970's and fired the gun on the last live fire execrcise for our Regiment in 1972, before changing over the 105mm Howitzers following the conclusion of the war in Vietnam.

It's fine looking and looks to scale and all that but the the EA is a classic and who knows how much the new one will cost. The old one was $125 and that was years ago. I don't even want to imagine the price on this. I'll stick with the classic.

This gun, crew and truck are beautiful, in fact stunning! It`s certainly going to cause a big crater in my wallet...

Yes, it is very effective in pounding craters indeed! You took the words right out of the mouth of its barrel. Lol...

Excellent review John and who knows, Andy might make a few subtle changes to the crew to reflect your suggestions.

Thanks for that John,,,and for the advice you gave me for my gun crew... it was much appreciated...TomB

Thanks for your review John. This lookd s terrific set to me and I look forward very much to its release. Over the yesrs we've had many different tanks but its good to get some artillery too. I have the Desert version but this looks better to me and as its a Brit Normandy version very collectable to me. Great work Andy.

All are still in operational order, and been restored by the Royal Australian Artillery Historical Socierty of Western Australia,
and I'm a member, so able to get up close to take imagery on the Army base, where they are housed.

Its a great looking mainstream release but the price will be steep I'm sure. I'll bet it'll be released in different parts so collectors can either just buy the truck and cart or just the gun or add on crew members. Lets put a number on it shall we?

Luftwaffe Refueling carts LW034 is $73 for two so say the 25 pdr ammo cart is 40ish
FOBCS8 Morris $159 and most small vehicle releases are hovering around $155 so say the truck is that price.
WS155 PAK97 with 3 crew members is $155 but was released awhile back.
2 Figures are running around $89

If you add it up $40 (cart) + $159 (truck) + $155 ( gun + some crew) + $89 (extra crew) + obligatory K&C markup up $25 (conservative) X your local tax regime 13% = apporximately $529!!! {eek3} I would not at all be surprised if the final price is even higher given the Treefrog chatter about how much this piece is coveted. Better start saving my pennies....oh wait Canada got rid of our pennies! :p

Having analyzed the economics I still think the piece looks great, I want it for sure but as has been said it sure will leave a "crater" in collector pockets {sm5}.........for those who care about such things.

It's a very nice set and historically an improvement over the old AK set that I have. But I suspect the full set will be well over $600. But I do agree that it will likely be releases in pieces to be more affordable so that people can at least buy the gun and a few figures.

I think it's a great release. The cost does worry me. The figures look like new painting. Assume $50 per figure. That's $250. Say $100 for the gun. That's $350. That's why I said I'd stick with EA 04.

Hope I'm wrong about the price.

Think your right about $600.00 price tag Terry but wonder what it will be in the UK ^&confuse most I spent was on the Figarti train but doubt I would spend that on the gun set even with it looking so good I'm sorry to say to much of my budget on one set , also think it would help if you new what else was being add to the range as after buying into the Mg range and then waiting two year for new figures to be made and then to found out that there going to cost a premium price put me of to be fair

I think it is very well done and the entire set would make a great shelf display. But it will be well beyond my budget as well.:( As for the UK price, I expect it will still be cheaper than the real thing {eek3}{sm4}

Definitely an FOB release and, the stripes issue may just be because this is not a P version so, errors will be acceptable as its the cheaper end of the market.

If you look at the way the Flak 41 was marketed and then add on all this extra detail and upgraded painting then they should have done this as a supplement to Arnhem as its going to be a bridge to far for lots of people

Why an FOB release and not Normandy and later?
