new civil war (2 Viewers)

I ordered Lee's Texans and I hope to get 24th Michigan real soon.

Thanks to you all I have just returned from Gettysburg with the Troiani 24th Michigan set and Collectors Showcase 14th Brooklyn command set. What a great bunch of figures! The Troiani set is the deal of the century as I have seen this set still listed and available elsewhere at $170.00. No way to pass this bargain up even though AMC is backburner for me. As to the CS 14th Brooklyn, I am very impressed. Pictures do not do them justice, and upon seeing them in person for the first time, I had to have them. Great job CS. Sign me very happy with these purchases. May now get Lee's Texans. -- lancer

I definitely agree with you about the CS figures. The 14th Brooklyn set is very nice and is next on my CW purchase list. Now, if I didn't already have my 6th Wisconsin guys engaged at Antietam, I could definitely see them attacking the railroad cut at Gettysburg alongside the 14th Brooklyn Zouaves. It is great to see companies start making more Zouaves; the Conte ones look like they will be nice too when they are released.

Wow!

Just goes to show the impact a couple of simple photos can have on the forum.

I'll take the blame for Brad coming across to the dark blue and gray side but the rest of you guys are all self-made men.

Welcome to one hell of a war and some pretty darn good figures to help you depict it.

Well done guys!

Reb.

If anyone is planning to get the 14th Brooklyn sets, don't wait much longer. I kept putting it off and putting it off, waiting for Christmas and then noticed the CS website said they are sold out, they disappeared from the Michigan Toys website, and I was not seeing the firing set listed on Ebay (the toughest of the sets to find right now). It seems a lot of people are running out of that set, if not all of the sets. I grabbed all three while I could; Hobby Bunker had the firing set. Make that the one you get first!! Maitlands in Ontario has one set as well, as of today.

I think the CS sets are the best civilwar figures ever made. The animation is outstanding.

the new Wheat's Tigers are by far some of the best available. I am anxiously awaiting my pre-order now. Mine will be converted to represent another New Orleans zouave outfit - Avegno's zouaves in the 13th LA in the western campaigns. Red pants, not striped though.

I have never had a lot of interest in collecting any Confederate zouave figures, but I am probably going to be buying at least one set of these. They truly are beautiful figures - great poses.

CS is turning out some really great stuff and many people I talk with still are not convinced. Their loss. -- lancer

kt-Good choice- the 13th LA were one hell of a fighting regiment. Some years back I wrote a mini-history of these boys for a Civil War rag-they were in the thick of it at Shiloh and took their name from one of their field officers Anatole Avengo who was mw during the battle. They took part in the Kentucky invasion debacle and fought like demons at Perryville, when they finally surrendered at Gainsville one month after Appomattox there were no more than a couple of dozen of them left standing.
It's been a long time since I've seen anyone mention this Band of Rebs in print.

I'd like to read your mini-history if you still have it handy. Being from N.O., I have an interest in them. mY gr-gr-grand-daddy was with the 20th LA at Shiloh. Avegnos' zouaves weren't as well-known as Wheat's or Coppens' in the Virginia battlefields.

Alright. It always does my heart good to hear someone proudly announce his Confederate ancestry Kingtoot.

Well, I got the first of the 3 14th Brooklyn sets I ordered today. I still think CS has work to do on skin tones (look better on the website), but the skin tones are not all that far from the $100+ St. Petersburg zouave I bought a few years ago. On the whole, I am very very happy with the looks of these chasseurs and eagerly await the arrival of their mates. The uniforms, weapons, and accoutrements are very nicely done. I will definitely be buying more CW figures from them.

I couldn't agree more with the skin, while I love the 14th ( they are my favorite set , I've got two sets blazing away at home ) I thought: the flesh can be even more vibrant and engaging. So one can see even more realism and shading variety that I added to both the Berdans and the Wheats.

I appreciate the candid comments, funny enough they often aren't far ro my own thoughts as well. Great minds think alike: or feeble minds seldom differ: gosh I hope it isn't the latter!:)

Thanks all for the kudos and frankness, its very helpful.

best regards,

Brian

Thanks Brian. Hopefully, it is not feeble minds thinking alike - I wonder sometimes - not about you but about me!! Anyway, Berdans are on my Christmas list if they are around that long. I may ask my wife to order soon - I am sure she wants to buy me more soldiers right now.

I received my other pieces a few days ago. I know you like firing lines Ron, and they make a great looking one when placed together. Lots of variety in the poses. The officer's sword is a little fragile, and mine was broken when I opened it, but all in all this is a fine set.
