New diorama part 2 (1 Viewer)

Always think how venerable tanks are in built up areas. They really reply on the supporting infantry for protection as you have laid out. Everything works well in these scenes.:salute::, Robin.

Thanks Robin.....I really like the way the bocage turned out, being the heavy overgrown bocage is at the far end of the diorama and the less lighter bocage is at the opposite end, before both colors were to close together and didn't fit well in a overall display, but with the American build up/medic station on one end,.... U.S. forces pushing through the Farmhouse/garden area...Germans/ U.S. Forces fighting in the hedgerows....then far opposite end you have the German defense in the ruined barn and bocage area with Tiger/Panther, heavy SS and FJ in that area....next stop will be some type of St. Mere Eglise style church which will turn left at the far end of the German build up area, hopefully in early 2018.

Yet another board to come it seems. I am a sucker for churches. Just bought another one myself in Bastogne, Winter though. I would be revisiting Band of Brothers DVD to reinforce your fantastic scene here Sammy. Careful when you turn 'left' you do not end up outside your house^&grin. Looking forward to seeing some more photos as the troops move around. Robin.

There is nothing like a good diorama, and yours is tremendous! I too have a few TM Terrain items, and could not be more impressed with Dave's work.

Thanks to all for the kind comments on both threads of this diorama, I'm certainly happy with it but....I want to get some ground cover or flock to hide the breaks where the sections of the diorama are spaced together, any ideas are welcomed, also Ken is working on a large Normandy background scene from last I heard which would really make the diorama stand out even more with a proper setting.

Now trying to figure out how to tie in a St. Mere Eglise style church on the far end where the Germans are reinforced, thinking of more of a large facade to allow more road/bocage for space..again any suggestions here are welcomed, thanks again for the comments...Sammy

Looks great Sammy, joins are tricky, have seen bushes etc used to hide them.

I love this idea Sammy. I enjoy seeing this display getting bigger and bigger. Such a great idea that you and David planned out. I love the fact that you can keep adding to the story by adding new boards when your ready to.

Thanks Joe, it has been a work of pure enjoyment over the last 3-4 years on these boards, and now it really has taking a real turn that shows the complete landscape and possible battle scenes across the length of the boards, it's always a blast having early discussions with David on new concepts and a new design board and how it will coincide with the previous board, anyway hoping a Normandy style church facade, bocage, wall ruins on this next board, thanks again for the kind words...Sammy

Sammy,

Maybe TM Terrain can give you some tips. Also, do you take photos with an iPhone? Some of the photos are lopsided.

David gave me a few ideas but my hobby shop is a modeler 1:35 more then anything, but I'll give it a look see and hopefully find something....hopefully no lopsided photos next time around.

Fixed the seams in the diorama!!! found some good ground works at the hobby shop that matched the ground works pretty close used in the diorama, took heavy tape below the under side of all the sections connected and ran the tape length ways to follow the seams all the way across, then back to the terrain, used my new ground works to fill in the seams, and shazzam!!!! no more ugly seams to be found anywhere without much detection of anything done at all but just a little more dirt, grass color here and there, I'll post some new photos once time allows.

ok fellas, here is an updated photo...the groundworks I picked from my hobby shop was a bit to dark, so I used some good old fashion Arizona dirt to mix in with the hobby dirt, dried it out and looks like a pretty good blend over all, hardly any visible signs of any seams at all.

Got a better photo of the barn ruins, used saw dust to help hide the bases (best I could) on the Germans in the loft.

Great job hiding the seams and bases Sam but I hope you didn't make an almighty mess on your hobby room floor with all the materials! ^&grin

Yea the trial run got a wee bit messy, but once the seams filled up with the groundworks it was pretty easy on from there, nothing a quick vacuum couldn't take care of.
