Get ready for this... Shipping now counts towards final value fees to encourage lower shipping costs. Great.

Great. That's going to kill a lot of international transactions. They don't seem to know when they're ahead.

I like how they took the "estimate" fees for my buy it now/best offer listings from my paypal account before many of the items sold. They didn't even take the final bestoffers (lower income than posted)-just took it all and said I have 90 days to contest any fees or something.

I like buying things on ebay but- wow!!!!do they ever hose the sellers!

Definition of deal is when both people are happy and both people think the other guy got ripped off.

There is no deal on ebay!

I just looked at my eBay account, I haven't bought anything from eBay since 2007. I always look regularly though to see what is about but it doesn't seems as much fun anymore.

Way to many buy it nows and payment methods are not as flexible as they once were.

I just read about this. I believe it will have the opposite effect - it will ensure more sellers charge HIGHER shipping costs. If it costs me $10 to ship a pkg. and I charge the $10.. I will have to pay the portion of the Final Value Fee AND I already get hit from PayPal.. and I don't really want to pay any of the shipping.. I'm sure Ebay figured this out already - because it'll just mean more $$ for them.. Hey - it's their service, they can make the rules - but I don't like how they try to position it as helping anyone but themselves..

It's a bit more complicated than that. Starting April 19 individual sellers (not ebay stores) will get to list up to 50 items per month for no listing fees as in free. Instead they will be charged a fee on the sale price plus shipping.

I'm guessing at the numbers for ebay fees (not including Paypal). A $15 item may pay a $0.50 insertion fee and about $1.00 listing fee plus 9% of the $15 selling price for a total of about $3.00. Now there will be no listing fee but the fee would be a $.50 insertion fee plus 9% on the $25 sale price plus shipping or $2.75 Do these numbers make any sense? And how would it affect more expensive items say at a $200 sale price? Insertion fee of $2.00 plus $2.00 listing fee (extra photos) plus 9% of $200 sale price or $24. Now listing fee of $2 plus 9% on $200 sale price and 9% on $18 shippnig plus insurance for a total of $22.

It will really hurt international sales where shipping costs are very high and sales from countries with high postal costs (i.e. Canada)
I'm not sure what ebay means by a free listing. Does any of this make sense?

Is it legal to charge a commission on shipping if you are providing no service in that regard? I am not a lawyer, but this doesn't seem right.

Here is the other bs from this, every buyer screams about shipping and gives bad ratings. This is good for ebay, b/c it only takes a very small amount of bad ratings not to be a top seller (and get a 20% discount on final fees). They are also removing the 5% discount for Above Standard sellers. Example - me - I have 100% feedback in over 14000 total transactions as a buyer and seller. My dashboard ratings are all 4.98 and above (out of 5). YET, I am not a top seller b/c I have 4 low ratings in 1 year due to an international transaction where the buyer requested Express mail and paid for it, yet he rated me low due to the cost which I have no control over.

Ebay needs some competition, but I am afraid it is too late.

I still think it is possible for a company to compete with eBay but it would take a huge amount of resource to pull it off.

They are really out of control and purely do not care as they are the household name.

You're absolutely right about their antics. I was a powerseller getting some discounts and free listing. They used to evaluate power sellers every three months with a minimum number of transactions and dollar amount. That is gone now and it's annual now.

So I'm paying full insertion prices plus everything else under the sun.

I am very tempted to offer a little discount if buyers are willing to pay offline and I can offer to cancel the transaction so it looks like we just agreed not to continue.

Don't think ebay would let you get away with that for long :wink2:

I just received my notice from FeeBay . . .er, I mean eBay, this morning announcing their new policy. I was going to start a thread about this but I see one has alraedy been started. I have been an eBay member for more than 10 years and now, amongst other increases over the past, this! There will no longer be any listing fees but the final value fee will be 9% of the fianl bid price + shipping + any other charges involved in the sale. eBay is encouraging sellers to use their pre-paid postage option to generate their psotage labels. I don't use this option because I am more comfortable going to the post office and having them weigh the item and charge accordingly. What if the selelr doesn't have a postal scale at home??? I am also a seller that gives refunds on fees if I accidently overcharged for shipping - no more under this rule. I might just become an eBay buyer only, or start selling on a Buy-It-Now only basis and start padding my price with all of the BS eBay fees. I certainly will think long and hard to offer international sales. Perhaps we will see an increase in the use of the forum's classified section . . .

Yes, E-Bay will only shoot themselves in the foot the way that they are heading.
Discouraging sellers by making things harder on them will simply cause a decline in the overall seller base !!!!!!! :(:(:(

You think it's hard on US sellers. Try shipping from Canada. Our postal rates are about double those in the US. I already eat part of the postage on sales to US buyers to be competitive in the US. The new rules almost mean I have to do free shipping to the US and sales to Europe are virtually impossible. This really cuts down the market if I am selling an item that appeals to buyers in England or Germany but not to US buyers.

A lot of my listings end up going to Europe.

If eBay could offer a better shipping price then I might use their option. But, shipping through paypal, they don't offer first class international. So that takes a lot of business away on items under $100.

I use stamps.com for my shipping needs. That is $15 per month but I can ship via first class international which brings in many more bids.

More and more, in every area of life, there are hands reaching in and taking from. Everywhere. I feel like I'm being cannibalized. From the vehicles I use to sell stuff, to the bank I use, to the utility companies, to my credit cards, just every **** thing. It's like death from a thousand cuts.

Hello:

I of course recently got the eBay message about the April 19, 2011 fee change. I noted that that the new fees next month will offer "Free" listing fees regardless of price for up to #50 items per month, but the Final Value Fee is going up from 8.75% to 9.0 %. I did not realize that the new Final Value fees will include S&H/postage, ugh! Can the Final Value Fee on the Postage be avoided by NOT going thru eBay/PayPal to buy postage, by rather going thru Stamps.com or for small sellers like me, Click N Ship via direct Online buying from USPS???

If you quote the shipping and attach to the ebay listing then it will count as that's what you're collecting.

I suppose one could invoice people directly out of paypal for the total with shipping amount but that is quite a bit of work.

Yeah, enough already. I understand it's hard to turn profits but...

With those credit card interchange rates going away, the banks said that that money was used to insure against fraudulent charges. Ok, I'll buy that BUT they go on to report that those charges netted them over $16B in profits. Yet another lie and another end run to take it from who ever they can get it from.

It's one thing after the next. No matter who we elect to protect us, they move slowly and banks + everything else are a million miles in front of government because they're efficient. And if something isn't illegal they can do it till it's illegal and keep whatever they got when it was legal. UGHHHHHHHHHH!

Ebay representatives at their open forum actually told sellers to add their shipping and handling to the price and list it as free shipping. Seems like that might be aiding and abetting in fraudulent behavior. Maybe one of our lawyer types might weigh in. On my listing, I now state that because of new Ebay fees targeting shipping, I no longer offer international transactions..Will see how long I can keep that in my listings..Michael

Dear "Gideon":

In other words I might was well get with the new program that will start @ eBay on April 19 and that is that. I wish eBay would stop making yearly or more changes to the way they do business.

Yup.

Time for handling fees. I have to charge a handling fee now and I hate it. I buy corn starch peanuts and a lot of regular card board boxes for non priority mail shipping.

Now, with FeeBays new crap I have to do it.

I tend to sell auction style so I can't claim "free shipping". When I use "buy it now", I just watch stuff site and not sell which is pointless and just doubles the insertion fees.
