Well it finally happened, Friday we closed on our new home! This weekend has been a madhouse with deliveries from every store wife could find!
Rugs luckily came first and a load of furniture from England for library, and to our great pleasure no one showed up at the same time!
New house is unbelievable, I will have a nice library, a den, a terrific garage......and wife could spend a couple of hours trying to find me..........if the task is unpleasant!

I will try and post some pictures in the next week or two, right now I am working off satellite as we have no cable or tv service for the moment. It's funny I haven't seen a tv for 3 days now.......and I don't miss it!
It's going to be difficult moving my den over, but so far so good everything has arrived with no damage.
I'm going to set the shelves in the library, then build a grill........and spend the rest of the day relaxing.......at least until the wife gets up!

But the big question is, does your new home have a space set aside for your collectibles?^&grin

Good luck, and congratulations! Here is one toy soldier moving hint: take baking sheets, line them with towels, lay all of your figures on them, and then use books to space them when stacking; it is much easier and more efficient then re-boxing them ALL.

Louis yes, house is 4700sq feet not counting 6 studded out rooms in basement! So there is lots of room. My Den is quite nice as is the library on the main level which I will use during the day as I watch the market. Tomorrow I am ordering goodies for the garage, a Racedeck floor, two lifts and high rise openers so I can use the 13' ceilings in there.

So far I have moved about 1/3 of collection with no casualties. I am using small sturdy boxes with popcorn which I then put inside storage tubs. I can only move about 6 at a time, but I am in no hurry, and would rather be extra careful. I will post some pictures as things move along.....but wife and I are exhausted!

It's really a big job!

That is a great tip. I never considered putting them all back in the original boxes.....it would have taken far too long.
I kept all my rare piece boxes in large cabinets which I had brought over, so all I needed to do was bring the items themselves. Tonight I finished with my early items and Arnhem so I will be busy setting them up for awhile. I'm going to take my time and enjoy the experience! Wife and I have decided this is all we could ever ask for so it's time to sit back and enjoy ourselves!

{eek3} 4700sq feet. I wouldn't even know what to do with that kind of space. Boy o boy did I get into the wrong profession. Sounds like you have a great home, enjoy!

Thanks, this is our final home and after 40 years I owed my wife her dream house. She is really enjoying herself and I am carrying lots of boxes. I have gotten a crash course in Persian rugs and lots of other things not usually on my things to think about today list.

The neighbors all seem nice but I have yet to find another "car" guy. Today I learned all about the zones on the sprinkler system.........back in NJ a sprinkler was a hose with a couple of holes in it.

Congrats. Moving is always a bit exciting and nerve wracking. I've always felt nostalgic about leaving a place and moving.

Congratulations John on your new house. I bet you are excited moving in and organizing your Garage and man-cave. Nice to hear that you found a large home. I am at the age where a small home is all I can handle.:)

Well it certainly is keeping us busy! We find ourselves awake around 7 with so many things to do! Today we received a delivery of items we had shipped down from N.J. We still don't know what we were thinking!

Today I ordered garage floor, two lifts, and new openers with high rise tracks that should finish garage. It will be nice to have everything together again.

After my next divorce ill probably have to downsize a great deal,,oh yes congratulations

My woman and i are building a new nest so watching this thread with interest,im more worried about shifting the collection more than the actual house building,great house mate it sounds HUGE.........{sm4}

I am moving collection a little at a time we are in no rush with our old home. It was a nice place, and I will have it painted, and made like new again so the next family will enjoy it as we did.

Today my high rise garage doors were finished and installed and my floor arrived. Unfortunately we are having trouble with phone company so we are still using our cells and satellite for Internet. No TV........which isn't really a bad thing!

Things are moving along at a fun pace and we are really enjoying ourselves. Wife has her dream kitchen so I am eating well.

I will post pictures when I have regular Internet service as I haven't a clue how to send them via I-Pad.

Whereabouts is your new location, John? Trooper
..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... .....

We are still in Georgia about 20 miles north of Atlanta. It's a lovely area we have a horse farm just outside the sub division. The houses sit on about an acre yet we are only 2 miles or so from shopping.........and The Home Depot where I am on a first name basis!

It's private the homes are gated, and quite nice. The homes look like they could be in Colonial Williamsburg. I guess I'm up now......I have to paint a little in the garage and begin putting the floor down. Should be a fun morning!

Congratulations! My wife and I are getting our new home this Friday.
We are both quite excited. Now I will have a 2 car garage, and huge basement with loads of room.

...I have gotten a crash course in Persian rugs....

So I think you may be able to help me out here- can you recommend a Persian rug that compliments my Britains 4th Lanciers?
^&grin{sm4}
Just joking, of course^&grin.

I have finally figured out how to take pictures with my I-Pad so I will attempt to post a few tomorrow. We are still working on setting up Internet service, but should be up and running soon!

This moving thing is really a lot of work!

Hi njja,

I am looking forward to the pictures of your new den. Having always enjoyed the shots of the your old den in the album, I hope you set up the backlot buildings and figures plus everything else as before.

Cheers, Raymond.:smile2:
