New JJD WW1 Aircraft (3 Viewers)

JJD has announced Bishop's Nieuport 17 for Feb. release. It looks real good with that aluminum dope finish. It is a historic aircraft as Bishop was the Allies leading ace and, if memory serves, is the aircraft he flew for the mission that won him the VC. A Bishop figure is probably to be a near future release (I'm hoping). Another fine piece from JJD. Can't wait. -- Al

Don't know if I can commit the money for it right now, but it is a magnificent looking model.

Hey Titus, what do you think of you're new Camel? It's a beaut, isn't it?:D -- Al

Al,

Yes I picked one up a few days ago. It sure is beautiful. Looking forward to getting the Baron's plane....maybe I will order that today.

Congrats on the pick up. The Tripe is every bit the Camel's equal in quality (I like it better because I'm a Red Baron fan:p) and the two look great on the shelf together. I think you'll like it. -- Al

Im already defiantly sure I will like it.:D Then when john comes out with the Baron himself and that new German ground crew moving the plane it will make a nice display. :)

I know how you feel Al....:D Just ordered the Tri plane so will be looking forward to displaying it next to my Sopwith camel. But this is good so now I can save up for the Nieuport.

...I NEED the Baron. -- Al

well, he is part of our online community here-says he lives in Bethlehem- pretty area- not too far from Germantown- 1/2 day drive I would assume. Not sure he realized he was being manworshipped from afar :D:p:p:D

Uh, the Baron I want (no offense to our forum brother) is a long dead German flyer, nicknamed Red.;) I'm sure our Pa. Baron is a great guy but I know he won't fit in my 1/30 scale Fokker. I won't go out of scale.:p -- Al

Got the Tri plane the other day....its another beauty. Now we need the Baron figure standing in front then the display will be complete. So John looking forward to April releases.

Agreed on all points.:D -- Al

Are these cockpits spacious enough for a sitting pilot figure? Michael
The cockpits certainly look small. Figures could be made but I don't know if a full size sitting figure could be maneuvered in. Certainly an upper body half figure would work. Would like to see some pilot figures in the cockpits. -- Al

I am looking forward to the Bishop Nieuport but I certainly hope JJD can hold the line on the aircraft prices as they are already on the outer limits of my budget. Anybody have an idea how often JJD may issue the aircraft? -- Al

I will probably get the Bishop Nieuport. I hope also he can hold the price at what it is now. I believe at the London show he showed another Tri plane, which one was it?

I believe the "paint" schemes not the castings are the issue. My guess is JJ should be able to get about 600 castings per master with 200 each of 3 paintsups. So 2 more issues of the camel, Tri plane and Nieuport in different colors. Lots of prior guess work on what next Tri Plane schemes will be in the future, any guesses on the Nieuport (I'm not a WWI air buff so I have no clue which ones would be popular to collectors)

The second triplane that was shown, with the yellow top wing, was the aircraft of Lothar von Richthofen, the Red Baron's younger brother. He was a great ace in his own right and survived the war. It is a very colorful aircraft. -- Al

As far as the Nieuport goes, it was used by aces from all the Allied nations. It was used by the French (naturally) in the largest numbers. Many French aces scored victories in the Nieuports like Guynemer, Hertaux, Dorme, Navarre, Nungesser and the relevent paint schemes changed with the period of the war either camo brown and green or silver dope. British aces such as Mannock and McCudden used the Nieuport as well. These were generally a silver color. The Lafayette Escadrille also flew it with Lufbery being the high scorer. These craft were usually camoed in brown and green or painted silver, again depending on the period of the war. -- Al

Just looking at my JJD Sopwith Camel on the shelf as the sunlight brightens the room. With the Roy Brown figure standing in front of the Camel, it looks like a James Dietz picture I have seen. The red nose with the Vickers mg's and the aluminum colored wear around the cowling just looks fantastic. What a great job by JJD. -- Al
