Hi John, why don't you post the photos? If you can't send them to me at njja@bellsouth.net and I will reduce them down and post them for you.

Here are some pictures of samples from New Model Army. They are not finished products (to quote Mike from NMA, 'the finished product will be better and these samples are far from perfect and have mistakes as I'm sure people will point out!'). He says to ignore the color scheme on the mortar team - they are changing it. The standing figure in the mortar team will have a base (FYI)

But, for what it is worth, here is an idea of what is coming:

I like them already. Are the three chefs in the background also New Model Army? :)

I think they'll compliment the late war K&C figures nicely and the vehicle looks like it could be in the same patrol as the K&C Puma. If anything I think they're probably sticking too close to the K&C template of success. Perhaps they need to, given the incompatibility of K&C with other ranges, and in that respect it's necessary to be a wren and fly on the back of something else to get up there. Once they're up and away perhaps we'll see more innovation but for the moment they look like they'll be producing a nice line that'll match up quite well with K&C.

Gary, you wrote me awhile ago, saying that you weren't going to waste your money unless they were close to K & C. Do you think you will buy some now?

My answer would be a conditional yes. I want to see them in person, not just through the web, before I say yes.

Is Treefrog going to carry these?

I too would want to see them in person, but there are quite a few people on this board that I would take their word for quality. So maybe I would buy one set and then take it from there.
That,s what I did for HJB, bought one figure, determened it was not of K&C quality, and never bought another.
But again, they do look promising, my only minor complaint is that kneeling shooting figure looks like a copy of the K&C figure. I am knit picking with that.

As of right now we do plan to carry the line (though we have yet to see dealer terms, etc). We'll keep you posted.

Wow....and WOW! Ok, it may be too early to say it, but even those early productions look awesome, and the armour, bring on the German armour........

I've taken another look at these proposed releases and, notwithstanding what I previously said, I'm concerned. As Gary and Joe (CannonFodder) have mentioned the New Model Army castings appear to be very close to King and Country. A case in point is the eight wheeled vehicle. It bears a very strong and close similarity to WS 32. Also some of the camo of the soldiers bear a very strong similarity to King and Country. They appear to have been copied from King and Country. While imitation is said to be the sincerest form of flattery, if I can buy the original, why should I buy a copy?

I've alluded to a conversation I had with Gary about buying products from new competitors only if they're good as King and Country. I don't think these are as good as King and Country. While I'm not saying these are knock offs, there is close similarity and it should be cause for concern especially if the pricing strategy is to offer them at a cheaper price than King and Country. In other spheres, this could be a case for intellectual property infringement. I don't know if there is such a thing in the toy soldier world however, not being an intellectual property attorney.

Another cause for concern is that it devalues our collections if something similar to a WS 32 comes to the market. Those who may not know any better may just decide to buy the cheaper version. It's sort of like generic competition. A generic competitor rides upon the coattails of the original inventor and doesn't have to spend the research and time needed to make a successful product. This could only lead to other items similar to King and Country retired items being produced.

On the other hand, the new Honey from Figarti and the Panthers from Honour Bound appear as if they could be something that will make the 60 mm world competitive and will only enhance both the toy soldier world and our collections. But mere copying does not.

Look, we all have limited resources and when you're deciding where to put your money and unless some company comes along that just blows me away with the quality of the product, I'll be buying King and Country, a product that just keeps getting better and better.

Again, why would I want the copy when I can have the original. This is a very important point to keep in mind. As you can guess, unless I see some originality, I will be staying with King and Country.

Hi,
Congratulations Mike! These samples look good, fine poses, but from these photos they look a little «rougher» than today's K&C. They remind me of K&C at an earlier stage or of a bigger Conte. Look at the rifles, pants and hands: K&C is still one notch higher. Good points from Brad, I am not sure about copying, but the themes are not very original for the moment. Price might be a factor for general collectors, any indications yet? But well, it's early days, a lot remains to be seen, especially in one's hands.

Happy collecting,
Paulo

I agree with Brad, I began collecting King & Country because I liked the product, and value. I had a moderate military miniature collection when I begain. King & Country built its business over time with quality products.
Its only in the last two years that new collectors have found King & Country and increased the demand for retired pieces that created real value in our collections. A pleasant bonus for a lot of us. I continue to look at other items of interest, the Conte Church immediatly comes into mind. However most important to me is quality. King & Country has earned the right to produce limited edition quality products that collectors want, just because you produce an item with a limited production is not enought to draw me to your product.
I saw the original tank offered on treefrog limited to 30 pieces, and read the various comments. I considered ordering the next offering, but after I saw the paint job I passed. It looked to me like an item rushed into production riding on King & Countrys coatails.
To me as a collector show me something of quality, not just a copy of someone elses product.

I kinda feel bad about mentioning some of the figures appear to be close copies of K&C.
I applaud the new companies for what they are trying to do and really look forward to seeing them, and hopefully if they are true quality as they claim, buying them.
I personally can never have to many soldiers.
If in fact these two newbies don,t cut the grade quality wise, they won,t be around long, creme will rise to the top.
I,m not one to post wish list, but it would have been a little more interesting with another theme instead of the standard Waffen SS.
I do like what Honour Bound has in the works, German tank mechanics, that,s what I mean about a little something different.
I do wish the new companies all the best.
Gary

After reading the last two posts I don't get it. Gary, what's to apologize for? They're making Waffen SS sets? Gee, I wonder who makes those. Some Scottish guy I think. And why would you make what are copies. Why not put them to the test and have them make something original. Why would you want a copy when you can (and probably do) have the original? I think that is the question, the nub, the heart of the matter: Why buy a copy when you can have the original? Until someone answers that question, I don't see that a case can be made.

Also, whatever happened to loyalty. It's as if the first cute girl comes along and "it's sorry, hon, been nice knowing you."

I wish the best for New Model Army but I had already decided to still continue to collect only K&C military figures, no matter the quality of the new companies or their prices. I have to make a choice as I can't raise my budget in collecting and that I don't want to miss one K&C product that I like due to a lack of liquidities.

I'm allowing myself to express a little disappointment about the first sets of New Model Army in respect of the originality of the armoured vehicule and the soldiers choose to introduce the company.

But again, I wish you the best and I'm sure that you will make your place under the sun.

My best regards,
Pierre.
