new range? WWII? (1 Viewer)

Wow these look so cool, please tell me they are not a limited run?.Matt will TM Terrain be stocking these or can we just order from your site?.

Rob

I would certainly hope that TM Stocks them! Personally, I think Mark and David are going to come up with a mind blowing display at London in June. They are of course also available from us as well...

I guess that the first Germans represent (Operation Barbarossa) the invasion of Russia by the looks of the picture. :)

Ahh, so the speculating begins! You could certainly use them for that if you were so inclined as any WWII figures of course have multiple use possibilities....but the astute observer would recognize that you are wrong. It's all in the fine details my friend. And that is the last that I'll say about this, so any further guesses won't be denied/confirmed/acknowledged in any way, right or wrong, you guys will just have to wait a week!

Congratulations on what would appear to be another stunning line Matt.

Having collected well over 50 (not counting duplicates) of your Napoleonic figures I am certain the WWII collectors will be more than a little impressed;;) your figures do look better in person.

John, take a look in the Matt By Manufactuer forum category; they only have 1500+ posts since they were added about a year ago.;) You WWII guys should get around more.:D

Brilliant post - especially the final comment.

Yeah, I was snooping around the FL website yesterday and noticed a certain change to it - but decided to let others do the talking.
I'm not really into WWII in a big way, but I'm certainly looking forward to this release next week, for various reasons. Who knows? I may even see some of the new figures that I might like enough to order up just to use as small vignettes.
:)

Cheers
Harry

I doubt if the Eastern Front will sell very well.
It has never in the past.

Is it the Eastern Front Damian? I never thought of that. I reckoned they were just generic WWII German figures I saw on the website.
I sure hope FL haven't blundered big time, sigh.
After all, we've been informed for years that Eastern Front just doesn't sell. Then again, maybe really well sculpted, well painted, and from what we see on the website (and what I myself have seen in the Hong Kong street markets) - very imaginative poses; could make this "unsellable" conflict sell enough to break FL into the, hmmm, let's call it the BIG BOY'S LEAGUE.

Although I doubt it very much, this particular version of "Eastern Front", (which after all, was the biggest conflict of WWII), may force other manufacturers to eat their words, reconsider the repetitive poses throughout the ranges, regret the needless retirements of perfectly good lower cost figures - only to replace them immediately with not-much-better but certainly higher priced figures. Business strategies that can certainly be guaranteed to tick-off the more discerning collector.

Regards, etc.

Well, the cat has poked his head out is an looking around. He won't leave the bag for another week or so, so MUM's the WORD at the shows buddy! ;)

Today, George is in for some serious questioning in Wilmington, DE.

They look Eastern Front to me Harry. You know that the Battle for Berlin Range just did not sell apparently a bit like the Pacific stuff. So I don't know what to expect.

Do they really Damian? Hmmm....I wondered if they were perhaps supposed to be for Italy, because as you so rightly point out, some other Battle for Berlin and Pacific ranges didn't sell - or so we've been force-fed. Its a bit like the tired old marketing trick of saying something enough times until it becomes accepted fact. Or then again, maybe the toy soldiers in those ranges simply weren't good enough to sell in the enormous numbers that were, apparently, expected. How would I know the behind the scenes machinations of the toy making world? I am, after all, just an occasionally interested onlooker these days.

Mind you, perhaps we ought not discuss anything other than FL's wonderful figures in this section of the forum. You know, it would be a shame to see this section deteriorate to the same level as some others.

I sincerely hope that you're now as happy with your "readjusted" miniature figurine collecting habits as I am.

How long will the Pacific and Eastern Front be unprofitable to produce or will it always be unprofitable?

Obviously it’s up for speculation and like many things, time will tell.

Is it possible though, that these themes may be more attractive and profitable if they were extremely well done, done in limited quantities and with a direct sales channel to the collector. Do you think it might work? Oh wait, that sounds like First Legion!

Carlos

I think it is extremely arrogant - to maintain a decent tone - to say that a range doesn't sell without EVEN having seen a single figure in full!

Sorry, but that just makes me laugh! I prefer to read Mr Gambale's wish lists than such a blond comment!

FL's figures are different and appeal to a many of us. And time will tell if something sells or not.

Matt, I am sure that you will bring out figures that are up to the standards you made us used to...

And then.. Happy Collecting.

Having been beaten over the head-verbally- that WWII are the most collected TS in the whole wide world-then I must ask is that WWII per se? or do certain theaters of the war not count?
I don't know.

However, what I think I do know is if the quality of these forthcoming figures are anywhere near the quality of Matt's Naps (and I am sure they will be) then I would bet all of my old dud Confederate dollars that any avid WWII collector worth his salt will at least give these figures some very serious consideration-surely? because if I was a khaki/olive drab/field grey collector I most certainly would.

I dont think we really need to speculate on how well they will sell, thats really Matts department. If people want high quality painted realistic figures with excellent poses unlike most produced i think theres little doubt.Lets not forget other wwII figures produced by manufacturers are not great quality in comparison to what i know FL will produce.
I personally will only buy FL now apart from the odd other one here and there as the quality is better than anything else out there as these prices.
I suspect i'm not and wont be the only one,but i'll leave the business side to Matt.

To mix it with the WWII boys you will need some serious armor.
Tigers Panthers Elephants and maybe the odd T34
Perhaps even an 88 Gun

Why do they look "Eastern Front" to you? I see two guys that appear to be wearing 1940 pattern field tunics carrying an MP38/40 and a Kar98. The only thing this would rule out is the pre 1940 campaigns such as Poland. The piping on their shoulder boards looks white indicating they are from an Infantry division. That's about all I can make out from the low res partial picture.

Regardless of what they are they look fantastic and I am truly excited about a new figure release for the first time in quite a while.

I don't think anyone is saying FL new figures won't sell.

My sentiments as well mate. Fortunately (or unfortunately), I can more than break my collection budget on my favored part of the Napoleonic conflict that they have and will release.;)

I must say i am really looking forward to seeing these new figures from FL.The quality looks very good from the small pic i've seen and i would be happy to display these alongside the rest of my collection, and i have not been able to say that very often.

I just hope Matt ventures into British/US figures too.:)
