New Releases For December 2012 (2 Viewers)

I'm in for the Udet Tripe! Great looking piece and well worth the wait. Chris

The Whippet is just out of this world and I am already dreaming about the Mark V.

Very nice releases ..the Whippet is outstanding..i hoped to see more Spanish Civil War releases but maybe next month!

WOW !!!

another great set of releases from John this month.

I'm not a WW1 collector, but the Whippet is brillant and seeing the masters of the crew included, makes it seem that the WW1 battlefiled will be graced with more figures next year.

My order is already standing for the 7YW Battle of Luthen Prussians, which are nicley building up in my collection.

The Spanish building will be a treat to my Napoleonic troops, but so far JJD's are a minority, due to my 7YW collecting..... but that WILL CHANGE !!!

WELL DONE John!!!

These monthly releases are really becoming disappointing. A lot of JJ's attention has gone to WWI and he's making some wonderful sets for collectors of that period. But the themes that got me interested in JJD from the beginning are flatlining.... Something with Woodland Indians would be great to see again... Still waiting for French defenders as well as Highland officers and casualties for Ticonderoga... Two sets of Royal Ecossais and then nothing... Some great artillery equipment is being made for 1812, but more figures are needed to go with it.

I know John is only one guy, (a very talented and creative one at that) and he can only do so much. But while WWI gets multiple new releases every month, many of the other periods are getting little or nothing. I guess a little more balance on what's released each month would be nice.

I feel your pain Ken...

FIW...RIP...

I share your pain guys....sigh!!!!
Where are those Highlanders climbing the Carillon/Ticonderoga French redoubts???

Get in line!!!^&grin:wink2:

Just the odd one or ten would do me!

It does seem from reading the later posts that one man's meat is another man's poison when it comes to Toy Soldiers. However, WW1 enthusiasts haven't had it all there own way. I've waited for what seems an eternity for this subject to snowball and now we are reaping the rewards of our collective patience.

About the Whippet, I recommend reading the article about Lt Arnold & 'Musical box' on the landships.freservers.com website.

If we get the Mark V's plus perhaps some very nice 'Diggers' from tom gunn providing infantry support, then we start to have a very nice scene depicting the 'Black Day of the German Army'.

I for one prefer the "18th Century" theme that John started with. I do, however, collect the WWI planes with great enthusiasm. Let's face it, WWI is going to sell better than "Ticonderoga" and "War of 1812" so as a business decision John is doing the right thing. I believe he will add to these series from time to time. He did tell me once that he was surprised how popular the Culloden series was.
As mentioned before I give John tremendous praise for being so prolific as a one man shop!

Just in case you were not aware, the Whippet has two variants - hatch open and hatch closed. Mine's going into battle, so hatch most definitely down!

Yes, Musical Box is proving popular! Did you read the story we pasted in the gallery section? Amazing adventure of daring do!

We will have some of all the December items for the London show, although the Whippet and Spanish building haven't hit John's warehouse yet, so sadly will come a little later.

I spoke to John about the open and closed hatch, and in fact both are included, so we assume this part is interchangeable. We will have a preview model though, so look out for some more pictures after.

Best regards to all and look forward to talking to collectors in London!

Thanks for the info James. I will see you in London next week. Are you able to let anything out of the bag in terms of say a Mark V????

I also hope to see some French Napoleonics for the Penninsular campaign and Austrians for Leuthen.

I do belive that the Austrians have been designed, but the release will be after the 14? Prussians.

I'm looking forward to the gate and wall sections to make a diorama, but I'm not expecting that very soon, maybe also with the Austrians.

No rush for Frenchmen, many makers have them, unlike the Spanish Guerillas and Portuguese which as coming along very nicley.

Lets see what comes next month???

Really glad to see more Great War aircraft and tanks. The choices keep getting better.

John, Is it down to 14 now? - I've heard to expect at least 17 Prussians.

''I was in touch with John last month and asked him these exact questions to which he replied:

I took a trip to Germany last summer, and met up with a few excellent painters and historians.
I had a great time especially with the research, and even managed to visit a few museums and see some period uniforms and equipment.
For me I really enjoy learning more about the period I am working on.
The Seven Years War is a huge project... almost as large a "Black Hole" as the Napoleonic period!
So it took me a while to work out how to get started and to get collectors interested in the period.
I decided that a small series based on the Leuthen painting, would be a great starting point.
There are in fact 17 Prussian Grenadier figures already sculpted (based on the painting), and at this time 6, Austrian figures which were defending the graveyard at the time of the assault.

And I think I remember someone else commenting that a bigger release will be done someting soon, in Europe, so maybe in Germany with John's dealers there?

I'm sure we will all be very happy with this range of figures and my 2nd grenadier is now in transit, with the 3rd on order :). John ''

Found the original post I was looking for from June of this year. Turns out it was also from Obee.

Hope it ends up being at least 17 Prussian Grenadiers that are made. There are 11 now - and by looking at the painting JJ is basing this series on, there are several obvious figures I would think John will portray. I'm hoping we'll see the running sergeant w/halberd, the officer w/spontoon, the grenadier shooting up at the wall, the two sappers w/ axes chopping at the gate and finally the bare headed grenadier at the very front of the painting. - Time will tell.
