New Warbirds (1 Viewer)

Brad , that plane looks great . Regardless of price etc their is some
real talent involved in making those planes .
I struggle to sharpen a pencil imagine carving one of these .
[the storch,s look cool but man that landing gear looks fragile]
I agree, it is a daunting undertaking to carve something that precisely. These are indeed nicely done, hence the King's ransom.

The gear on the real Storch was quite tough accually, it was designed for landing in rough places.;) Consider this contemporary account of a landing:
"As the flaps came down and power was reduced, the nose lowered toward the runway at what one would have swore was at least 45 degrees. At this point, the pilot who seemed completely unaware of the impending crash, calmly held about 50-55 mph indicated. Just as I was thinking of jumping or maybe just falling out of the open door to escape disaster, the pilot hauled back all the way on the stick, closed the throttle and we landed — or should I say arrived. But strangely, instead of rebounding totally out of control at least 10 feet back into the air, the enormously long gear legs seemed to gently collapse and spread, and we didn't bounce or even bobble. We then turned off the runway at a taxiway just 75 feet from the approach end of the runway. Impossible. Airplanes can't do that!"
There is more about it here:

The Corgi verson of this 109G is also impressive, especially for the price, if you can find one: Notice the moving parts, of which there are many for this aircraft. In deference to the main theme of the thread, I will only link to some of the best pictures of the detail.

Had a visit from Hans Hedrich at the museum yesterday. Hans is feeling much better, and looks great, having lost 50+ lbs! We dropped Andy an E-Mail, and while I got no specifics, in his response this morning Andy did concede that the RAF Sergeant was "the first of many" RAF related figures. I will do some serious inquiry on the subject face to face next month in Chicago!;):p

It's about time - I mean we need to explore the AIR WAR of WWII - I have a flight line of Corgi Hurricanes awaiting TOP GUN K&C Pilots !! :D

I know, I can't wait to be able to display figures of modern K&C's museum quality alongside my new K&C museum quality warbirds. I think I will shift the set up of my RAF diorama so that the present production warbirds are displayed with present production figures and vehicles, while the earlier production warbirds (with the painted canopies) are displayed with the earlier glossy production figures and vehicles.

Wait until your son finds a way up there and walks through your Air Field - like a B-29 Bomber Strike !!

I have been lighting candles on a weekly basis for quite some time in hopes of an announcement regarding "THE FEW." Hopefully they will be airborne in September via the Chicago Show Aerodrome aka Duxford West!

Tally Ho,
Beaufighter

Alec spends time in the museum with me every day. He knows that he can only play with his toys, not daddy's toys. So far, no Atom bomb strikes on the K&C collection!:p;)

We will perform recon on "the Few" in Chicago. In addition to more fighter pilots and ground crew, I want an RAF or USAAC bomber crew so bad I can taste it!:cool:

Speaking about 1:30 what scale will all these RAF figures be. The Warbirds are 1:32 I am lead to believe.

I suspect that the figures will be smalish 1:30 scale. I have displayed 1:30 scale K&C figures with the warbirds (which are 1;32) for years, and the size of the warbirds makes the difference in scale unnoticeable. If Andy makes 1:30 scale figures which are on the smallish side (i.e. probably 1:31) they will look perfect with either the warbirds or the other K&C ground troops.

I think everything for warbirds needs to be 1/30 just like the B-25.

My Fields of Battle RAF Flight Sergeant just arrived . . . it works great with the other K&C 1:30 figures, so it looks like the flight related figures will be 1:30. By the way, its a great figure, superior detail.

I also just got the Fields of Battle Bedford Lorry (and I put it on the airfield with the saluting flight sergeant standing with his kit - it looks like he is saluting the driver, who just dropped him off). It is also fantastic, nicely detailed, and muddied up like it was traveling on rough roads. I would love to see a Bedford Lorry or AEC Matador in RAF blue . . . ;)

I just sent Brad 3 photos of the new FOB Bedford Lorry and RAF flight sergeant on my RAF diorama to post when he has some time.:)

Here is the RAF Sergeant with the Bedford.
