Brad & co.-
Can we start a poll on which limited edition vehicle KC should produce next?
My nominations are:

1) Russian JS-2
2) Tiger - AK Tunisia version
3) German captured T-34
4) German 88mm gun - either Seelow Heights/Berlin or AK series
5) Any WWI tank

Sorry Combat, I don't think Andy would do any of the above as a limited edition piece (with the possible exception of the 88). Strictly Limited sets have to be big sellers. I don't think Russian Tanks or a WWI Tank fit the bill.

Not so sure about that. I think at some point you have to become a little more adventurous. Anyway what would you suggest?

I suspect it will be something with big appeal, like either another Whitman Tiger, or a German Battle of the Bulge command vehicle.

Although I voted for the 88, when I asked Andy several months about making another one, he said not anytime soon because they're very hard to make. So, I wouldn't hold my breath on this one.

OK, I'll nominate some...

M4A3E2 Medium Tank - the "assault" version of the Sherman, sometimes known as "Jumbo". This was a heavily armored version of the M4A3 that was meant for attacking the Siegfried Line. First appeared in ETO combat in late 1944, used in Battle of the Bulge and drive into Germany. Only 254 of the real tanks were ever produced, all went to ETOUSA except one that somehow went to the French. A unique tank with several distinctive features. Many stowage and/or camouflage options available, should be a good seller, but not something Andy would keep in the lineup indefinitely.

155mm Gun Motor Carriage M12 - this was the older French-designed M1917 155mm gun mated to a modified M3 medium tank chassis. Only used in ETOUSA, about 74 guns deployed, in SP Artillery Battalions, starting in Normandy and serving through the end of the war. Again, a unique and unusual vehicle. With its open gun area it cries out for a K&C gun crew to go with it and lots of Andy's excellent detail/stowage cluttering up the vehicle. Again, something that would sell, but in limited numbers.

I will hold my nominations down to these two items, AND I would be very happy to help Andy, et. al. with the research on these vehicles. Both of these could compliment the BBA series or the M12 could be added to the DD series as well.

Hi Louis,

Here I go again, asking really dumb questions! But,...I am going to ask anyway.

You say, "Strictly limited sets have to be big sellers." Why is this so? It seems to me that "strictly limited sets" must be those sets that are only issued in small, fixed numbers. Small, fixed numbers (in my feeble mind) do not necessarily imply that they must be big (rapid) sellers. Yes, I know that the manufacturer incurs a larger per unit cost to produce a limited supply and the manufacturer may want to justify that greater cost through rapid sales to recover the expense. But,...ultimately,...due to the limited nature of the supply, all the units will be sold in time and they will always be "strictly limited."

It seems to me that the "big sellers" business to which you refer has more to do with the manufacturer wanting to make certain he/she earns a reasonable and timely return on his/her investment, which may just be good business practice. But,...strictly limited sets do not always have to be big sellers in the sense that they sell out quickly. Due to their limited nature, the supply of strictly limited sets will always sell out in time.

Now, having voiced my stupid question and displayed my total ignorance of business matters, I would like to add that I would love to see a strictly limited set that is associated with the K&C Ancient Egyptian line! :p

Why must those strictly limited edition sets always be WW II sets? I guess it is because they must always be big sellers! Aaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggh!!!! :D

Warmest personal regards,

Pat ;)

P.S. It takes real courage to demonstrate this much ignorance on the forum!

If you're ignorant Pat, then so am I. I love this stuff, but I don't understand many of the descisions :)

To me it makes better business sense for Strictly Limited pieces to be based on less popular subjects. For example K & C could have easily sold over 2,000 Rommel Greifs, granted they would have been at a lower retail price, but the return to the company would have been higher.

K & C go to the trouble of making new molds for the sake of injecting variety into their product line, such as the French pieces in the Fields of Battle range. Of course most collectors know that these will not be very popular in the long term and they will soon be 'retired' because demand for them is low. Why not make some of these 'Strictly Limited' to attract more attention to the less popular items.

1. M3A2 U.S. Half Track/Personnel Carrier w/ cupola
2. L4 Grasshopper Spotter Plane
3. Fieseler Storch
4. WC-54 Ambulance & Medics w/ Stretchers

A Sea Harrier with pilot.

Lt Col H. Jones earning his posthumously awarded Victoria Cross in the Battle of Goose Green.

Whatabout a Scorpion or Scimitar Cvr

Then what about some Argentine Commandos or infantry or a LVTP-7S landing craft ,or a Panhard Aml-90 armoured car.

Or whatabout all of the above in a limited edition series for 2007,well i can wish cant i :)

Can't see Andy taken a gamble on a strictly limited Russian vehicle, just ain't popular, so here goes;

M3 Grant for 8th Army with Monty figure
Horse drawn Wehrmacht artillery, 105 or 88, don't care which
Dodge ambulance with medics, stretchers, wounded
M. Wittman's Tiger #222(actually borrowed) at the Bocage
New deuce and half (without ribs that break!) full of 101st paras headed for Bulge.:)

1 The Duplex Drive"Sherman with Rangers take shelter after the Tank.
2 The Panzer IV for Normandy.

In response to Pat and Oz, I don't know why Andy chooses to make very popular subjects as "Strictly Limited", but look at his track record: a Stug IV, a Winter Tiger, Rommel's Grief, the Normandy Panzer Meyer Command Halftrack, the Patton Sherman. These are all sure hit big sellers. If Andy stays on this course, its going to be something popular. I like Boot51's guess: the Monty M3 would be just the sort of big seller Andy would make a strictly limited. It would also go with his personality theme (Rommel, Meyer, Patton . . .).

As far as a Tiger, I don't see that happening for awhile. The most recent Wittmann Tiger (WS 43) was out there for a long time and he made a heap of them and now you have the Figarti Tiger. Andy would probably say that we need a break from Tigers for a little while.

Don't count on it Brad. Tigers sell. Do you know that over the years Andy has made four different wood (early wood, early winter wood, wood with blackout lights and wood without blackout lights) and five different polystone (Original Whitman, Winter Whitman, Second Polystone, Second Whitman, and Strictly Limited Winter) Tigers. Its the same with Shermans, Andy has sold six different wood versions (Original Wood U.S., Original Wood British, Detailed 30 Corps with opening hatches, Detailed U.S. with opening hatches, Wood version of Iwo Sherman, wood 8th Army) and 6 polystone versions (Iwo Sherman, Winter Iwo, Easy Eight, 105mm, British 105mm, and SL Patton) of the Sherman. Don't be suprised if there is a new Tiger in 2007. I can't remember a single year since K&C started producing tanks that there wasn't a Tiger available.

I hope you're right. Louis. Any well made Tiger will sell and every toy soldier company should have one in it's lineup at all times and the same goes the Sherman and the Panther too. There's lots of Panther aces, especially from the eastern front, with huge kill numbers that could be subjects of SL editions.
