Thanks Dave. Were you thinking of Daniel and Peachy and the colonial British as part of that then? Pity they don't make movies like that any more.

Yes, I think the tale of those 2 scoundrels fits squarely in this genre, and.....I could not agree more about a relative lack of decent movies in recent years (or decades).

Yes, I wonder how many more Transformers (and their spawn) we will have to suffer through we get another Gladiator or Master and Commander.

Ok guys, you are going to think i've lost my mind here i know. However i have just watched a History Docu about a subject i knew absolutely nothing about and was hooked.I'd like to see FL do some figures of Hannibal and his War with Rome.Of course i knew about Hannibal marching his men and Elephants through the Alps but i knew little about Cannae and it being the biggest defeat (in numbers of dead)in the history of the Empire. The story of Hannibal luring in the Roman legions and then slaughtering them from all sides was fascinating.I'd love to see figures from both sides from this epic battle.

Yeah you know that film in which George Romero takes his army of the undead through the Alps to attack the Romans who hide out in an ancient shopping centre;)

Carthaginians and Republic of Rome would make for an awesome line, FL I'm sure could make a fantastic war elephant. Most Roman figure that I have seen, have the Roman soldiers wearing trousers which was pretty late in Rome's time. The early Roman soldiers wore a lot different armor during the Punic Wars.

I agree and it does seem to have been not well covered in metal figures. The Blackhawk effort is underwhelming to me.

The War Elephants were a bit of a mixed bag in actual combat since they were just as likely to stampede and kill their own troops as those of the enemy, still they were a bit of a shock to any one who faced them. NO doubt FL could do them well.

I have the DVD of that documentary Rob - and yes, it's an excellent programme.
It's a subject that I don't think has been done properly before, (tend to agree with Bill's assessment of the Blackhawk efforts). This one would probably have broad appeal, I think.

Cheers

I'm not really well versed in the Punic Wars, but I believe that Hannibal's army was a mix of men from Carthage, Various North African peoples, Iberians and Gauls. Quite a mixed bag if their different armor and weapons could researched.

Rob, there are some great books available on the Punic Wars, and the 2nd war (Hannibal's) in particular. 1- Livy's "The War with Hannibal" (old classic) 2-J.F. Lazenby's books "The First Punic War" and "Hannibal's War" (both outstanding). 3- Adrian Goldsworthy's books, "The Punic Wars" and "Cannae" 4- Nigel Bagnall's "The Punic Wars" 5- Gregory Daly's "Cannae" (outstanding) 6- Mark Healy's "Cannae 216 BC" (Osprey title). These are a start but include some of the best. You have struck on a great subject with the Hannibal War. -- lancer

Thanks Lancer thats very kind of you.Maybe i'll start with the Osprey title to get an overview of the battle of Cannae.I thought the docu/drama was very interesting and was totally hooked.Sometimes Its good to learn about something totally different from what you normally study,i could hardly believe the numbers of Romans killed at the Battle of Cannae and what a huge effect it had on the Empire for decades to come.

Thanks again

Of course Rome ultimately had the last laugh, as it were.;)

My pleasure, Rob. Reading about Hannibal's campaign in Italy is fascinating. The defeats he inflicted on Rome were amazing, yet he was unable to win the war. As he began the invasion, he defeated the Romans at the river Trebbia in 218BC and inflicted 15-20,000 KIA. In 217BC he beat the Romans at Lake Trasimene, inflicting another 15,000 KIA and 10,000 captured. Devastating losses, yet only the warm-up to Cannae. Have at it. --Al

By looking at this poll Matt seems to listen to what customers want as The Crusades,ACW and AWI scored high. The only one that didn't but he still did was the Roman which now has become very popular.

Well, we are nearing the end of the first quarter of 2012 and still no news on new ranges... ^&confuse

Well we are nearing the first of May very quickly, Matt had mentioned on the Canada forum awhile back about early May being a release date for a new line, sooo we'll see soon enough, but then again Matt could change his mind as well:)...Sammy
