An unusual incident occurred during Grant's Overland Campaign in early May 1864. A scouting party of Sheridan's, Federal Cavalry unexpectedly stumbled upon a small troop of Stuart's, Confederate Cavalry watering their horses. Guns were drawn, cocked and aimed. No doubt, startled at the sudden close proximity of the enemy the troopers froze waiting for their respective lieutenants to give the order to open fire. But no such order came.
Instead what followed was a long sixty seconds of silence and intense staring, then gingerly and very slowly both sets of troops backed off. As the distance between them got greater some of the cavalrymen began to throw taunts at each other
"Next time, Yank"
"Count on it, Reb"
Using K&C figures the following few shots are a depiction of that peculiar ACW "Mexican Standoff".
