I think we can put a bow on the incredibly surprising 2011-2012 season, so lets get started on 2012-2013.

My predictions: Peyton Manning signs with the Houston Texans, but falls just short of returning to the Superbowl, again losing the AFC Championship to Tom Brady and the Patriots in Foxboro.

The San Francisco 49ers win the NFC Championship at home, again barely beating the New Orleans Saints.

I am not giving my Super Bowl prediction until the playoffs begin.

As far as my Giants are concerned, I see them resigning Osi Umenyiora, Mario Manningham and Chase Blackburn, extending Victor Cruz, but cutting ties with Brandon Jacobs and either drafting or signing a running back, a pass catching tight end and a big run blocking offensive lineman. The Giants will make the playoffs at 10-6 as the 6th ceded wildcard team (the Eagles will win the NFC East), beat the Packers (who win the NFC North and get the third cede) at Lambeau in the Wild Card round but get killed by the Saints in New Orleans in the Divisional Round. The 4th cede Eagles, with an injured Vick watching from the sidelines, will lose in the Wild Card round to the Lions, the 5th cede.

In the AFC, the Patriots win the AFC East and get the top cede, the Texans win the AFC South and get the second cede, the Ravens with the NFC North and get the third cede, the Chargers at 9-7 back into the AFC West title, and the Steelers and Jets get the wildcards.

Crazy prediction: in 2013-2014, the Peyton Manning led Texans play Eli Manning and the Giants at Met Life Stadium in the first Super Bowl played in one of the participants home stadium and the first super bowl with brother against brother at QB.

Little known fact: Eli Manning is not the first Giants QB to win two championships . . . Ed Danowski was the QB for the Giants 1934 "Sneaker Game" 30-13 win over the Bears and for the Giants 1938 23-17 win over the Packers, both at the Polo Grounds.

Sounds like there is a good chance the Rams will be leaving St. Louis. They belong in LA. Hopefully that's what happens. I feel sorry for the taxpayers who dole out millions on stadiums for any sport that hauls in billions. The folks in old St. Louis will be paying for this well into the future:

The Dome was largely financed with $256 million in revenue bonds, and the repayment of that 30-year debt will be $720 million. Every year, Missouri spends $12 million to pay off the debt, and St. Louis and St. Louis County each pay $6 million annually. The county's portion is funded through a 3.5 percent hotel tax approved by voters in 1990.

The Rams belong in LA, they never should have left there in the first place.

They also need to go back to the blue and white uniforms.

This is a wonderful article about Eli Manning, Eli Manning's Poise and Toughness by Peter King that I found on Twitter. I think he can (may be) better than his brother.

The time of Eli is here, the time of Brady has passed.

Thanks for the link to the terrific column, really enjoyed the read, and agree that the late Whitney Houston (how sad is that -she was one of my contemporaries) sang the best National Anthem I ever heard at a sporting event - in the midst of the Gulf War.

Can Eli end up being thought of as better than his brother, and the best of the three terrific QB's drafted in 2004? If he plays 5 more good seasons, and ends up in the top 10 in career passing, but wins no more titles, probably not. He will make the Hall fo Fame, but won't be thought of as one of the top 10 QB's all time like his brother. If, on the other hand, he wins another title, but Peyton does not, I think the three Super Bowl rings (and potentially a third Super Bowl MVP, which only Joe Montana has managed to do), puts him in the top 10 all time, and, in many people's eyes - mine included, trumps Peyton's remarkable regular season numbers. I would much rather have a QB win 3 Super Bowl MVP's, and have a +75% playoff winning percentage and more than twice as many playoff touchdown passes than interceptions, than have a QB win 4 regular season MVP awards, but go 9-10 in the playoffs with more interceptions than touchdowns in the playoffs and only 1 ring.

Have to disagree about Brady. Had Wes Welker caught a pass he got both hands on - a difficult catch but one he usually makes - the Patriots get at least a field goal (and have at least an 90% chance of holding on to win), and possibly a touchdown (game over), and we are asking whether Brady is the greatest of all time. I think Brady has at least one more Superbowl appearance in him, and I would not bet against him if he gets there.

Yeah, Brady threw for over 5,000 yards this past year and took a good but not great team to the Super Bowl.

He should just retire now.

When Eli gets to 5 Super Bowls and 6 Championship games in the next 4 years matching Brady's 10 year run, then we can discuss it.

Until then, please.

And as a Jets fan, you can only hope Brady's time has passed.

Dude, no need to get so sensitive.

The name of the games is titles and rings. Since 2008, Giants have two and Pats zero. I think that was the year that was the beginning of the decline, slight as it may be. Since then they have suffered some disappointments.

Did I say that the Pats were not going to win the East or have a losiing record? Nope and nope. However, you can't deny that since 2008, the success has been as good as before whereas Manning the younger is starting to come into his own, and he's much younger. Brady is getting older and your skills start to erode. That's just the natural order of things. One day you're up, the next day you're down. Nothing lasts forever.

If I were you, I'd be worried right now about the Celts and Bruins :wink2:

Let's Go Rangers!!! ^&grin

And also, your new favorite player just won the NBA player of the week, so............

IT'S TIME TO START THE LINSANITY BABY, YEAH, NBA FINALS HERE YOU COME, FIRST NBA TITLE IN 40 YEARS IS NOWA LOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brad,
As a retort to you comment that Brady's skills are in decline;

2007 League MVP, 16-0 regular season record
2008 Injured in game one, out for the year (thanks Pollard)
2009 28 TDs, 13 INTs, 4400 yards, 96.2 rating, 10-6, one and done vs the Ravens
2010 36 TDs, FOUR INTs, 3900 yards, 111 rating, 14-2 record, laid an egg vs the Jets
2011 39 TDs, 12 INTs, 5200 yards, 105 rating, 13-3, lost in the Super Bowl

Sorry, I'd have to say that is not the case, his TD's have gone up each of the past three years, rating averages out to over 100, yardage has gone up huge after a slight dip in 2010.

He's 35 in August, started his first game a third of the way into the 2001 season at the age of 24 and missed an entire year in 2008, so he's got plenty of tread left on the tires, four more years probably.

How many more shots at the Super Bowl, who knows as I don't make those sort of predictions, not my style.....................

Oh, George, Baaastan sports is so 2011. NY's where it's at! The natural order of things :wink2:

Tell the little bears to please do some dusting on the Stanley Cup, pack it up and send it to the following address:

Oh you know the address -- the greatest arena in the world, THE Garden ^&grin

As far as Jeremy LIN goes, he's injected some enthusiasm into Knicks basketball. Look what's he's done so far without the two stars. Will they win the NBA title? I doubt it. Are they relevant again? Without a doubt. There's a buzz in the City.

Guess who's on the cover of SI this week?

Jeremy LIN!

The poor kid is done now.

Sorry, I'm at the Fleet Center watching the Beanpot, BOSTON College (ranked 3rd nationally) vs BOSTON University (ranked 2nd nationally), no New York teams here tonight, the Rangers will be here tomorrow................sure, I'll send the Cup to New York, 18 years is long enough to wait between Stanley Cups.............but you'll have to get past the Red Wings first, good luck with that.

Kind of sounds like Manning should exercise the better part of valor and retire. Why risk further damage or further deterioration? Nothing left to prove. -- Al

I remember when Sterling Sharpe had neck problems and wisely retired to avoid the risk of potential paralysis. The next season, the Packers won the Super Bowl. I am sure that he knew he made the right decision, but I imagine he must have had his regrets. Peyton is going to have to make a similar choice soon. I hope for his sake whichever choice he makes is the right one.

The draft starts April 26th. Who or what would you like to see your favorite team draft this season?

As a Giants fan, after they finished last against the run, and seeing Eli get the snot kicked out of him in the NFC Championship game and the Super Bowl (9 sacks in 2 games) I want to see a really big strong offensive lineman who can both run and pass block (maybe Mike Adams from Ohio State). I would also like to see a big powerful running back who could replace Brandon Jacobs if they let him go (like Chris Polk from Washington). My third choice would be an excellent pass-catching tight end (maybe Orson Charles from Georgia), as it looks like Jake Ballard is going to start the season on the Physically Unable to Play ("PUP") list do to the torn ACL he suffered in the third quarter of the Super Bowl. A distant fourth want would be a really big (320+ lb) strong interior lineman in the Wilfork mold to help stuff the run (the Giants other glaring weakness for most of the season) maybe Dontari Poe from Memphis.

Well Dontari Poe, whom I thought would be available at the end of the 1st round, had an unbelievable combine, so probably moved up to the 10th-15th pick range. If the Giants had any interest in trading Osi intead of resigning him, I would trade him and the Giants (#32) pick to move up into that range and grab Dontari Poe - he is going to be GOOD!!!

Lots of local buzz about the Redskins trading up to the #2 spot to get the Baylor Qb. Looks like they might trade all their picks for the next 10 years or so.:rolleyes2:{eek3}{sm2} -- Al

My son and I are disgusted. Even the Steelers succumb to the "money" and cut Hines Ward. This is outrageous, he should retire as a Steeler. They owe him that in my opinion. Now, he will more likely go to another team, have a nice final year and the Steelers deserve the egg on their face if that happens. This one got me.

Agree with you on all points on this one Tom, Ward will never be on my all time favorite list:) but he more then earned his way to finish with the Steelers (he was even willing to redo his contact)..so why not sign him for 1 year to a smaller contract and let him finish on his own terms^&confuse..but I went through all this last year with Heap/Mason, (would Mason have dropped that ball in N.E.?? doubt it) and Heap was coming off one of his best years, anyway Maybe Ward will come to Baltimore and get some vengance on Pitt!!!!...Sammy

I think we all know it's a business and with the cap, it's dollars and cents.
