Nfl 2012-2013 (3 Viewers)

I think we all know it's a business and with the cap, it's dollars and cents.

That being said Brad, Ward said he was willing to play for the league minimum, but I also know Pitt has some very good recievers overall, maybe the cut came from wanting to use the others instead of playing Ward, either way it sucks to see a player (esp. in the modern NFL years) play for a team for a long time, play very well and then be turned out into the cold at the drop of a hat...Sammy

Agree. Unfortunately grim reality of a cap, they have terrible cap issues and right now, it will be interesting to see how much Wallace costs to keep. I just hope we are not stupid enough not to pay for him. Fastest receiver in the NFL is worth keeping.

According to the NFL Channel, they needed the cap room to sign Wallace. Otherwise, they would be not be able to do so.

As a matter of fact, there cap problem is so bad, they could not franchise Wallace, and have made him a 1st Round Tender, so another team willing to give up its first round pick can sign him. The NFL network people thought the Ravens might sign him: a double whammy, getting better at the expense of your chief rival.

James Farrior has just joined Hines Ward: he's been cut.

Actually Louis, I think they have the right to match the offer. Supposedly according to Pittsburgh press, there will be a number of other moves to make sure they can match the offer, we shall see.

The NFL network also said they would have to cut one of their linebackers. They must have crazy cap problems. I still wonder how in the world the Eagles have afforded all of the big contracts they entered into last season . . . I wonder if the Giants will have enough cap room to address their free agent situation (Manningham and Weatherford being the most obvious potential losses, but also needing to extend the contract of Victor Cruz with a substantial raise and either extend or trade Osi).

Yes, they would have the right to match the offer, but with the cap problems, they would lack the cap room to do so. I wonder how they are going to address replacing Ward and Farrior?

So, no mention of the Saints bounty program from you cognoscenti? :rolleyes2:

Saints Bounty Program

A black eye on the NFL.

Some reaction: What They're Saying About Saints' Bounties

Looking Back at Complaints About Saints Dirty Play

Anyone associated with that program should be fired and/or suspended from the game, Gregg Williams hoepfully for a very long time.

I would imagine the Saints will be paying the price on this from the NFL. There is also the possibility (actually the likelihood) they violated cap restrictions and lawsuits from targeted players.

Gee, Wayne is kind of silent now, isn't he.

Big front page story here, in DC. Williams apparently ran the same bounty program when he was the Redskins D-coach. Didn't help the Redskins record very much. :rolleyes2: -- Al

There have always been bounties. I remember the first time they made a big stink about it was the Eagles under Buddy Ryan supposedly having bounties on Cowboys players. Then there was the famous Ravens bounty on the Steelers' rookie running back - they admitted to having a bounty on him in the post-game interviews after they broke his shoulder and put him out for the season.

I'm not saying I approve of the bounties, or that I don't think the Red Skins and the Saints are going to get punished for it (they certainly deserve to lose draft picks and to have the players and coaches involved get nailed with long suspensions), but the story is not shocking. This has always been the way teams approached the best players on the other team. I am pretty sure that in the Giants locker room prior to the Super Bowl there was talk about hitting Gronkowski in his ankle, just like I'm sure the Bears probably were discussing knocking Peyton Manning out of the Super Bowl a couple of years before the Saints put a bounty on him in the Super Bowl.

It would seem to me that if the league focused on nailing people for bounties and cheap shots, instead of changing the rules to protect "defenseless" players, they would cut down quite a bit on concussions and injuries. Just my thought on the subject.

Now the Redskins are being investigated for bounties as well . . . I've got a feeling there will be a lot of teams who could be found guilty besides the Saints . . . although I do remember cheap shots by the Saints against both Kurt Warner (knocked him out of a playoff game with a blindside hit after he threw an interception as he stood watching the return) and Brett Favre (a bunch of cheap shots in the NFC championship game).

The Colts just formally announced they are releasing Peyton . . . let the bidding begin!

If I was Peyton, my preference would be (1) 49ers (if they want him and he's healthy pencil them into the NFC Championship game), (2) Texans (ditto the AFC Championship Game, plus play in the same division he is used to and play in a dome), (3) Cardinals (solid defense, good running game, one of the best receivers in the game in Fitzgerald, play in a dome and in a perinneally weak division), (4) Miami (warm climate, up and coming team), (5) Jets (if they get their offensive line in order, and add a running back they could be right back in the AFC Championship game with Peyton), (6) Chiefs (good defense, Romeo Crenell, weakest division in football), (7) Seattle (best of the also rans), (8) Red Skins (last place I would go).

Other possible destinations:

Ravens (if they really have doubts about Joe Flacco)
Tampa Bay (they have tons of cap room)
Falcons (if they are sick of Matt Ryan's playoff losses)
Vikings
Jaguars
Bills

Teams definitely not in the mix:

Colts (drafting Andrew Luck)
Giants (his brother Eli)
Patriots (Tom Brady)
Packers (Aaron Rogers)
Saints (Drew Breeze)
Steelers (Ben Roethlisberger)
Chargers (Philip Rivers)
Eagles (Michael Vick)
Titans (Cam Newton)
Lions (Matthew Stafford)
Bears (Jay Cutler)
Cowboys (Tony Romo)
Rams (Sam Bradford)
Bengals (Andy Dalton)
Raiders (Carson Palmer)
Broncos (Tim Tebow mania - foolish, they really should be in the mix)
Browns (trading up for RGIII)

The talk about Manning coming to DC has trailed off some with most of the writers now thinking the Redskins will attempt to trade up to the #2 spot to go for the Baylor Qb. Don't know if they can pull that trade off as it will cost big time in terms of draft picks. If our luck in DC holds as it has since Snyder purchased the team, we will strike out on both fronts.:rolleyes2: -- Al

It's now official; the Colts and Irsay have continued their proud tradition of cutting loose the greatest quarterbacks in the game. Why let a little thing like geography spoil a fine family trait? Robert in Baltimore, dumps Unitas. Jim in Indy dumps Manning. It just makes one all warm inside to see son follow father in idiocy. What the heck, who needs to keep an older quarterback just because he is the face of the franchise and has lead that franchise to the championship? Loyality is a fine trait that the Irsay's are obviously unfamilier with. Good thing, as a former Baltimore Colts fan, that I'm not bitter.:rolleyes2::tongue: -- Al

Today the media is indicating that Manning wants to sign with an AFC team, so he doesn't have to compete with his brother for a super bowl berth. It that's the case, it would seem the Texans are the best fit, followed by Kansas City and Miami.

My personal feeling is I sincerely hope he signs with the Jets and in 2014, in New York, (Jersey actually) it's the Giants vs the Jets, the battle of the Manning brothers in the Super Bowl.

To me, that would really be a sight to see.

Here's hoping it happens and the Jets win 73-0, Peyton retires right after the game and has family bragging rights the rest of his life.

That would be sweet.

Can you smell that . . . sarcasm, isn't it?{sm4}

I would wholeheartedly agree with you about the Texans...Peyton if he is truely healthy would put them over the top...Texans RB Arian Foster & Ben Tate make a fantastic RB dou , & give Peyton , Andre Johnson @ WR...That Offense could WOW the AFC...
