OH my!!{eek3} my Ravens finally, FINALLY have some good news for a change, signed Dumervil today!! Elvis has entered the building:)...Sammy

Awesome, now I hope Denver signs either Freeney or Abraham, then the Patriots sign whoever is left between the two.

Dumervil is a good pass rusher but is beyond terrible vs the run.

But in your case some good news is better than none.....................

I see the Ravens have released yet another player, Ayanbadejo. Was important on special teams and linebacker. Hello? Hello? Is there anybody out there? Is there still a Ravens football team?:rolleyes2: -- Al

In my opinion Al, I actually think the Ravens are better, positive thinking?? maybe, but here's my point, we picked up 2 good solid defensive lineman, where the defense really struggled last year, then Dumervil replaces both Ellerbe, Kruger as both were back-ups, Upshaw now moves into full time linebacker with Suggs and Dumervil and Nagata has help now on the defensive line with the new signings, as far as the defensive backs we get Webb back, Graham did a excellent job coming in late the season, we signed a good DB in Huff from Raiders, and I think Jimmy Smith can be good, will need another safety but with that lineup as it stands it's going to be better then 2012 20th ranked defense, not much change on the offense, I heard they may put J.Jones opposite of T. Smith and use Pitta like A. Boldin, other then the loss of Boldin not any changes to starters on offense, the o line looks to be solid again, and Flacco will have to earn his 120 mill. and play better in the regular season, Rice, and his backup with Leach coming back still look solid, so after some retirements, losses, I really feel good about this team in 2013, now back to the O's!!!!....Sammy

Ah, yes. The power of positive thinking. I've heard of that somewhere. I shall alter my outlook to align with yours, Sammy. The Ravens are simply improving themselves in preperation for their title defense. I'm naturally pessimistic by nature so this will take some work, but I am willing to try. Flacco WILL light up the league and the defense WILL be vastly improved. I think I can see the light. Repeat champions coming our way. Well, I am trying.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

See Al, it's that easy:)...Sammy

More sad news:

Pat Summerall, the deep-voiced NFL player-turned-broadcaster who spent half of his four decades calling sports famously paired with John Madden, died Tuesday. He was 82.

Hadn't heard this. He was a true professional. RIP Pat. -- Al

I can't remember anyone that I liked more then Pat Summerall as a NFL announcer, his calm voice and easy going style was very memorable, RIP Pat, you will be missed...Sammy

Looks like my Ravens have a tall order to start the season in Denver (as the NFL released the schedules) but I would rather play Manning early then later, but Ravens did catch a break with a few tough games at home, Packers, Pats, Texans and the best highlite is a Thanksgiving nite game at home against the evil Steelers, looks like Tom and I will be fighting over the drumstick:)...Sammy

Looks like the Jets traded Revis to the Bucs for a 1st and 4th round draft pick.

Better to get something now instead of him walking next year and getting nothing.

All I can say is that player drafted at #13 had better be good or else................

I can't believe all of the Doubting Thomas' here in reference to the Ravens. What did Ozzie somehow forget how to do his job? ^&confuse

Did anyone who supposedly knows football predict that the Ravens not only would make it to the Super Bowl but win? If they did, I sure don't remember hearing it.

If the one thing that I learned from watching football is that on any given day, any team can beat any other team.

I'm not saying that the Ravens will win the Super Bowl again, but I think that they'll make the playoffs again.

Hi Skeeter,

I picked the Ravens to win it all in 2012, against the 49'ers at that!! and I agree with you the Ravens will be there in the playoffs in 2013, if anything we have upgraded our defense over 2012 already by fixing the d-line, signing Dumervil, Huff, also with 12 picks in the draft I think the Ravens will shake some things up on the board as well, I just wished we could have at least kept Reed, A. Boldin but can't have it all...Sammy

Sammy, I was referring to the so called "experts" on the boob tube as far as the Ravens going all the way. I was sorry to see Boldin go too. I hope that one doesn't come back to bite us. Reed on the other hand was no big loss. The last season or so you would never see him tackle anyone. He hit them high and if they don't go down he's not making the tackle. The thing that Reed has and the Texans can use is his experience.

Chuck

I thought the conventional wisdom was that the Ravens would be using this year to stock up and get experience and be back the following year.

Of course, it's difficult to handicap the race in April, even before the draft.

I see the Jets have released Tebow. Another shock in a long series of shocks from the Jets.:rolleyes2: -- Al

It was inevitable. Now, they're down to five QBs.

Say what you want about his abilities, when he was with the Jets, he was a person who did what was asked of him and never complained. He didn't go out and blast people in the media and so forth. He was a model citizen, the kind of person you want to know. You have to feel bad for him. I hope he finds a good situation where he can succeed and develop his talents. Maybe the Canadian League, away from the spotlight, would be best for him.

pretty low down they way they did this...

Les Carpenter....Why did the Jets want Tim Tebow in the first place...

Apparently the New York Jets couldn't have hated Tim Tebow more. They dumped him on the first Monday after the NFL draft, knowing that other teams' rosters will be filled and the chance Tebow finds another job in the league is bleak.

It wasn't enough for the perpetually dysfunctional half of East Rutherford's two football franchises to drop Tebow from its roster. It had to humiliate their backup quarterback on the way out the door, timing his release to come at the worst possible moment.

The coach who never seemed to like Tebow issued a statement on Monday that thanked him for being in shape, which coming from a man whose most salient comment in the last three years had to do with eating a "god**** snack" seemed as backhanded a swipe as any. Rex Ryan couldn't run Tebow to the curb fast enough. Then he had to jump on his head.

All of which would make sense if Tebow came pulling an arrest record or showed up late for meetings or cost the Jets the playoffs with a bad interception. Instead, the disdain with which the Jets threw him out the door after barely using him in a waste of a season – he appeared in just 77 offensive plays – raises a bigger question that speaks to the chaos of a franchise that never gets it:

Why did the Jets want Tim Tebow in the first place?

. I totally agree, not sure the jets ever had a plan in place to use Tebow, but I blame that on Ryan, how in the world he is still a head coach amazes me, but I'm taken odds right now he will not make it to week 14 nextseason , his only saving grace is the owner has a soft spot for him, so as soon as the new gm has some ammo Ryan is a goner!! And I hope Tebow hooks up with a team that plays the jets in 2013 and plays and has the game of his life...sammy

Sammy...

that would be good karma...

but you know...NY did take a QB with their 2nd round pick...so...maybe Tebow was insurance if they didn't get anyone...with that said...I guess I can "kind of" understand why they waited til after the draft to dump him...it's just such a cut throat business...they left Tebow with no options to work this year...almost like they were punishing him...

I just have a hard time understanding why they picked him up in the first place and didn't utilize him more...

The Jets management, at least under the present ownership, doesn't really know what it's doing. The owner, Woody Johnson, likes the back page and figured Tebow would bring that, which it did. Blame must be laid on him, the former GM and the coach, who is not a head coach. However, Tebow must also receive blame because he could have gone to Jacksonville.

It was a foregone conclusion that Tebow would be gone once the dreadful season was over. The Jets would have traded him had there been any takers; they were hoping to trade him for a draft pick and were hoping some team would panic during the draft and contact them about Tebow. There were none, and the reason there were none is that he's not a very good QB. Now, you can debate this ad infinitum but the guy needs a lot of work. He's not going to get the help he needs from the Jets coaching staff, that's for sure. At any rate, he was never given a chance.

I don't blame them for cutting him but he never should have been on the team to begin with.

There is a new GM and basically he's decided to start anew, which is why many of the players who have been with the team in the past few years are gone. It's only a question of time for Sanchez to be gone. I don't think he can play here anymore. Having Tebow around didn't help but his psyche is probably shattered. For his sake, I hope he gets another chance elsewhere. The Jets will take a big salary cap hit when they do but the new GM is committed to getting all the bad news out of the way since they're not going to be a good team this year, by any stretch of the imagination.

The life of a Jets fan.
