Ok I know it's only the Hall of Fame game but I'm pumped that the 2014 NFL season is finally here. With that said you better watch out for my Detroit Lions they are Super Bowl bound this year. Lol, yeah right who am I kiddin. I'm beginning to think that the closest Detroit will ever come to a Super Bowl was there hosting of it back in 2006.

Joe...

I am sooooooooo sick of baseball and so happy the NFL regular season is right around the corner...I'm a Cowboy fan...and looking forward to another season of mediocrity and disappointments...but I always have hope...

I am a baseball fan but football is still king.

I am looking forward to the 49ers finally breaking through and winning it all this year.

The Bills looked cursed even in a preseason game. Those guys can't catch a break.

Mike,

Everytime I come out of "Cowboy Fan" retirement Tony Romo manages to phuck it up. That dude just breaks my heart every single time. He has never been the same, ever since he flubbed the place kick hold. I mean never!

John for around the way

Then I go way back and root for the Broncos...like when I was kid...and get skunked in the Super Bowl. I just can't win. So, I will stick to the Spurs.

Sammy:

Right there with you. The 49ers have had some injuries in camp so I am just hoping for a smooth, injury-free pre-season.

Good series for both team starters, but got to give it to my Ravens they ran the ball great all game, over 230 yards in rushing!! sorry Jason but John H. 3-0 vs. Jim^&grin...Sammy

Sammy:

Agreed all around. The starters for both teams looked good and the Ravens running game was in midseason form. The Niners clearly have some work to do.

Even if it is pre-season, I know that Jim is mad as can be that his brother has beaten him again.

Speaking of the Ravens, I saw on the NFL Network the fans gave Ray Rice a nice warm ovation.

Wow, ok then; I guess when it comes to sports, fans check their morals at the door................

George:

I hear you.

I think I am the only Niner fan on the planet who feels Aldon Smith should be suspended for a year.

I have an extreme personal distaste for DUI and domestic violence offenses.

Anyone who hits a woman is a coward.

And that person is dead to me.

When Chad Johnson was arrested for domestic assault, the Dolphins cut him, end of discussion.

And Goodell is a coward too; a two game suspension, how about out for the year; the NFL dresses their players in pink in October to support breast cancer awareness, talk about a sham.

Well the first team offense for the Niners looked fine, not to much work to do there, again I never put much stock in these games I want to see the starters do well and no one get hurt as well as seeing how the new guys look, but you can bet that Jim is pissed even though it'e pre-season:) I am glad to see the Niners sticking around until Monday for 3 full practices with the Ravens, should be some lively practice going on...Sammy

I do like those practices with other teams. The highlights from them are often better than most pre-season games.

I really like the concept of controlled scrimmages during the week leading up to two teams playing each other in a preseason game. The Patriots got so much out of it leading up to their game Thurday night with Washington that they had their 2nd and 3rd string in there for most of the game, 90% of the starters did not play.

Preseason games mean nothing, actually less than nothing. The Patriots went 4-0 back in the 1990's and everyone around here was all amped up; they proceeded to go 1-15 that year, a couple of times they went 0-4 and people acted like the sky was falling, one of those years was in the early 2,000's when they went to and won a Super Bowl.

The result means nothing.

Personally, NFL preseason games are the biggest joke/farce/rip off in all of sports. I remember as a former season ticket holder how annoying it was to actually have to pay for those two home games are part of the package; the five of us never once set foot inside that stadium for a preseason game, we gave them away to friends who had kids so they could take them to a game.

So much fun basically throwing away a couple of hundred dollars a year.

I saw someone refer to these as friendlies, which is what soccer calls their exhibition games. In friendlies, the starting players play at least the first half and I think they are pretty well attended, even when held in their own country. Instead of having a game held in London during the season maybe a few teams could go over to England and hold a pre-season competition. I'd have to think it would be successful.

Anyone remember that they used to play 6 pre-season games, with a 14 game regular season? 20 games seems to be the magic number. -- Al

Took the words right out of my mouth, was just about to post that; I remember back in the late 1980's the Patriots were loaded, heavy favorites to win not only the AFC East but have a shot at the Super Bowl.

In the last preseason game, they lost not one, not two, but three starters on defense to season ending injuries; season over before it even began.

The preseason goes like this; starters play one, maybe two series in game 1, the first quarter in game two, the first half in game 3, then one series (if that) in game 4.

Total waste of time and the injury risk is always there; just get rid of preseason and run controlled scrimages and be done with it already..............
