And speaking of the Redskins, Phil Simms and Tony Dungy have said they will not use the term Redskins this year as a form of protest over the team name which both find to be offensive.

Ok then.

And then good 'ol Ditka comes back in defense of the Redskins name.

Between the Manziel antics and the Redskins' name I am amazed that people find any time at all to talk about the sport itself.

Cleveland has named Hoyer as the starter, so Johnny middle finger is the back up.

So when is ESPN scheduling the press conference where we get LeBrons reaction; let me know so I can tune in..............

I wish you were joking but I won't be surprised if that is actually a segment on ESPN.

The NFL is accepting bids from entertainers for the halftime extravaganza at the Super Bowl, a time when I step out of the annual Super Bowl party for some fresh air as I could give a rats behind about the halftime show.

So now you have to pay to play.

Another feather in Goodell's cap; how about if they pass the hat at the game and that money goes to the NFL too.

Too bad Ike Turner is dead, since the NFL likes domestic violence so much they could have let him play for free.

Watched most of the Patriots/Panthers game last night, the third preseason game which is a dress rehearsal for the season as the starters play into the third quarter; the Patriots laid the wood to Carolina on both sides of the ball, the defense was relentless, had numerous sacks and QB pressures.

We'll see how the season goes, but they were impressive last night for sure; sit everybody next week vs the New York Football Giants and strap em on for real September 7th.....................

Giants looked dreadful last night until Eli's last possession when things started to click.

Jets looked ok. If they can be 9-7 this year, that would be a good season, considering their secondary is not very good.

I read where Gino Smith has been named the Jets starter and the Jets coaches are mad at Vick whom they say came into camp with no fire and did not have a high compete level to try to win the job, so they gave the job to Smith.

When asked, Vick said he was told Smith would be the starter when he signed with the Jets, so he doesn't understand why the coaches are mad as it was made clear to him Smith had the job.

And so it goes...........

I long for the old Vikings offense:

1st Down: Hand to Peterson
2nd Down: If Peterson didn't score on 1st down...hand to Peterson
3rd Down: If Peterson didn't score on 2nd down...have Ponder run around for a while and throw up a prayer.
4th down: If Ponder didn't throw an interception on 3rd down...punt.

OK...maybe I don't miss it all that much.

I can't help but feel bad for Sam Bradford. Out for the season with another torn ACL in the same knee that he tore last year.

The Niners first team offense looked pretty bad against the chargers tonight.

I hope they get it together soon.

Wes Welker has yet another concussion, his third in the last year.

Time for old Wes to hang em up, but he probably won't.

Manning really has a habit of leaving his receivers out to dry; Welker, Collie, Clark, Wayne, etc, etc, all have a concussion history because he continually throws the ball over the middle on short routes.

Feel badly for Wes, he should have stayed in New England where they coddled him a bit and didn't expose him over the middle. And he's chasing that elusive ring; if he had held onto the @#$%%^& ball on third down late in the 2012 Super Bowl vs the 9-7 World Champion New York Football Giants, he would have his ring and could now ride off into the sunset.

Hey Wes; it's time buddy...........

If he doesn't, he will pay later and we will be reading about his case. I wouldn't want to see him turn into another Jim McMahon, for example.

What do y'all make of the Patriots recent trade?

Ten years in the league
Not the same player since his knee operation
Making a ton of money for a left guard
Justin Tuck used him as a speed bump in the 2008 and 2012 Super Bowls
He stunk in the AFCCG last year
He's allowed the second most sacks for a guard, had a -4.4 pass protection rating, the worst among starting left guards
Gronk not 100% healthy and the kid they got from Tampa had over 50 catches as a rookie with an assortment of tomato cans throwing to him
They have other players who can do a good job in his place
Who knows what veteran guards will get cut next week

This frees up a ton of money vs the cap in 2015, they're going to need every dime they can scrape up to resign Revis. Belichick is one cold guy, it's all business, no sentimentality with him; in BB I trust, 13 years in a row with a winning record, 11 playoff appearances, 8 AFCCG's, 5 Super Bowls, 3 wins.

Do what you have to do Bill to keep the train rolling.

So far in the preseason, Revis has been on the field for 30 defensive snaps; three balls have been thrown in his direction, one catch for 10 yards was the result, he truly takes away half the field.

So there you go...................

George:

Thanks for the analysis.

Belichick always has a plan.

In order to be successful, you have to have one eye on the present, one eye on the future.

This is true with any business and in the end, sports is a business, plain and simple.

Aldon Smith was suspended 9 games today for his repeated violations of league rules.

It seems like a fair amount.
