Nfl 2014 (3 Viewers)

In reality, it's not that much. The regulars play little and not even the fourth game at all. Baseball is comparable; they play about 27 to 30 spring training games. In European soccer, they don't play as many exhibition games but besides a 38 game season, they have numerous competitions they have to play in; their season is much longer than American football: late August through May.

I was reading that the Bills might be heading to Toronto. That would be awful for the fans in Buffalo who have been supportive of that team. Regarding preseason games, they are awful. Just another money grab by the owners. One preseason game would be plenty. The NFL has been watered down to more entertainment than sports. It's like a reality TV show. I see lots of people watching any game for the sake of watching with no interest in who wins etc. Also surprised at how many women follow the NFL. I can't think of many sports where that has happened.

Couldn't agree more, that is unfair to the Bills fans who've supported that team since the AFL days.

And yes, the preseason is just dreadful. One of my friends is season ticket holder; his tickets are 170.00 per game, they used to charge 170.00 per preseason game, then they decided to make four games per year "premium games" and charge 220.00 per game on those, ie, 50.00 more and cut the preseason ticket prices to 70.00 each for the two games.

So they still get the 200.00, just tack it onto four regular season games by 50.00 each; what a scam.

And I also agree that the sport has been totally watered down; they are bound and determined to legislate defense out of the game altogether so they end up with 42 to 35 games to keep the 20 somethings and women entertained as in the end, it's not about a sport, it's about entertaining people, right?

I haven't the sale all that closely but I thought the family wanted the team to stay in Buffalo.

As of today, it looks like Terry Pegula, the owner of the Buffalo Sabres, is the front runner to buy the team. He will obviously keep the team in Buffalo.

I tried once again to watch some pre-season football tonight. I lasted about 5 minutes before I tuned out.

I hung in there a bit longer, watched the first quarter of the Patriots/Eagles game Friday night before I packed it in, they threw about 426 flags.

If touching a receiver is what this new rule enforcement is all about, then I think I am pretty much done with the NFL; Goodell is bound and determined to legislate defense out of football; why is it every time Frankenforehead out in Denver gets his *** handed to him in a playoff game that the NFL decides to change the rules to favor the offense.

Seattle did a superb job manhandling his receivers, taking away all that dink and dunk crap he lives on now that his arm strength has dropped, so now the NFL is trying to take that away.

Good effort, good job Roger you boob.................

I did 1/10th of that, long enough to know that both local teams are awful, clueless.

George:

I noticed all the flags too. Is there a new rule or are they enforcing rules that are already on the books?

Jason,

I think it's a new rule they're trying in pre-season. Hopefully, they drop it come the regular season. The idiots who now run the NFL are trying to turn the game into a glorified pinball game or Arena Football.

I don't see any sport tinker with their rules as much as this sport.

Maybe Brad is right and I am interpreting it wrong, but I thought this was a concerted effort by the NFL to enforce defense holding/hand contact/chucking/bumping of receivers.

It's to the point where you can't breath on a receiver; the old rule was you could initiate contact and had to stop when the ball was in the air, then they changed it to no contact beyond 5 yards of the LOS.

I am not sure what this new enforcement/rule is all about, all I know is they threw a ton of flags on it in the first week of preseason. They threw more flags on it in week one than they had all of last preseason.

What a joke.

Friday on sports talk radio here in Boston they were running with a story that broke during the week about the Jets. Seems the organization approached their super fan Fireman Ed about returning to lead the J-E-T-S chant as he gave that up last year.

They wined and dined him, took him out to lunch to try to woo him back, but he said no, he's not interested.

I don't get it; they can't find someone else to lead the J-E-T-S chant and need this guy to do it?

Makes zero sense to me, it's a non story that the media is trying to make into a big story.

The Niners officially opened up Levi Stadium for football against the Broncos last night with a shut out loss. Manning shredded the first team defense and Kaepernick took a bone crushing hit from some back-up defensive end. Great.

As one of my co-workers put it, if your team does well in the pre-season then the pre-season matters, if they don't then the pre-season is irrelevant.

Whew, I am so glad the pre-season is meaningless......

Tonight the TV execs are giving us Browns/Redskins on MNF; wow, I'd rather watch paint dry.

NFL fever; catch it..................................

Great move by Manziel giving the bird to the Redskins bench too.

What a moron.

Seeing as how I have 436 cable channels and nothing was on again last night, I tuned in to the game; the refs threw flags five plays in a row.............defensive holding on three of them....................click.

Seriously...........tell you what NFL, give Frankenforehead his second ring now and just get it over with already.

Last night on one of the sports talk shows the panel was discussing all the flags and the emphasis on defensive holding and the conclusion was the NFL wants more scoring across the league, period; reason? To pander to the Fantasy Football geeks.

And I'm not joking; to pander to the Fantasy geeks, give them more scoring.

Keep it up NFL and you're going to turn off A LOT of viewers.

Some people just never learn. This bozo will be working at Taco Bell in a couple of years talking about his glory days. Not entirely his fault though. He takes money in college. There are pictures of him holding wads of cash at some autograph show. And then the NCAA finds there is no evidence that he was paid because he denies it. LOL. His school, which prides itself on honor, suspends him for one-half a game against some cupcake team. So Johnny Halftime goes on and on with his antics and being a jack arse.

Combat:

I couldn't agree more. I think you also hit the nail on the head about it not entirely being his fault. He has been surrounded by enablers his whole life, from his parents, to his college and beyond. Problem is he is not at A&M anymore, the speed of NFL defenses has taken away his street style of double fakes and ducks. His inability to stay in the pocket and complete passes has been exposed.

And not that they compare but here is a grown man making a fool of himself on national TV while a 9 year old little leaguer named Trey Hondras from Chicago was the epitome of maturity. In their game against Rohode Island he hit a home run and as he was running the bases he pumped his fists and danced a little. In between innings he went to the opposing teams manager and apologized for his behavior. Manziel should take humility lessons from this kid.

-Jason

Been watching the LLWS all week; the pros should take lessons from these kids.

And the Redskins need to stick to playing football........................I'll leave it at that.

And speaking of the Redskins, Phil Simms and Tony Dungy have said they will not use the term Redskins this year as a form of protest over the team name which both find to be offensive.

Ok then.
