NFL 2015 Season (3 Viewers)

In my opinion, Kraft is either cagey or naive. If he wanted consideration given to Brady for his team agreeing to certain penalties, he should have worked out a tacit agreement with the league. If he did and they didn't live by their agreement, then he should indicate that they are not going to take the penalties. If he didn't work out an agreement but depended on Goodell to "do the right thing," then at best he's naive and at worst stupid. In any event, he should fight the penalties. That is probably the way to get a better deal for his man.

As the case finds its way into federal court, the first part of this case will be jurisdictional: which court has it? The NFL has asked the federal court in NY to certify that Goodell had the right to act as arbitrator while the players will start proceedings in the US District Court in Minneapolis. That will probably take a few weeks to sort out.

The NFLPA in the last CBA were morons to allow Goodell to act as an arbitrator on appeals for suspensions and fines he levies.

In 99% of the cases, an independent arbitrator has ruled on his suspensions/fines in the appeals process; in this one, he stepped in and ruled on it, which to be fair is his right per the CBA.

Again, shame on the NFLPA for allowing it.

Brad,
Nobody knows what was said between Kraft and Goodell since all of this happened. When Kraft backed off and took his medicine, we don't know if they struck a gentlemens deal to have Goodell go lighter on Brady as a result.

I'd hate to think they had a gentlemens agreement and then Goodell screwed Kraft; by the sound of the press conference yesterday, IMO that's exactly what happened, Kraft sounded like a man who got taken.

Taking away the crime (which at the end of the day if there was one, it's a minor one at best) and the bad look for Brady regarding the phone; this whole process is nothing but a farce and a joke.

Again, the Ravens called the Colts, the Colts called the league and the league set up a sting to try to nail the Patriots.

Then Wells was brought in and sorry, that report is a whole lot of nothing; no smoking gun, no real proof of any wrong doing, no "gotcha" moment, the ideal gas law can explain away what happened here. He stated in the report the coach and the organization are not guilty of any wrongdoing.

So what happens; Goodell hammers the organization anyway, then hammers Brady with a four game suspension and equates what he did to PED use.

Then during the appeal, Goodell steps in and rules on his own punishment and for the first time in forever, a suspension is upheld; in the meantime, suspensions for drug users, wife beaters and PED users are getting reduced left, right and center.

Taking off your anti Patriots bias and Brady hate ( and sorry, I don't see what there is about this guy that people hate, he's not some golden child born with a silver spoon in his mouth trained since the age of two to be an NFL QB, he was a senior starter at Michigan who was drafted in the sixth round and the only reason he made the Patriots as a rookie was for some odd reason, they carried four QB's that year), this is a farce and a witch hunt, this is nothing more than the NFL having a hard on towards the Patriots and Goodell wielding his power like a drunken sailor on shore leave.

If it was any other team than the Patriots, the team everyone loves to hate, there would be outrage over what is going on here.

It's inconceivable to me how from a fairness and conflict of interest point of view, Goodell could be allowed to act as judge and jury. That should be one of the primary points of attack.

All this talk is nonsense. Since we know the Raiders are going to win the Super Bowl this year! :)

The NFL must have a death wish. I can't believe that the #1 sports league in the US is letting this penny-ante story continue to be the face of their sport. Maybe the powers that be are glad to have something other than domestic violence stories in the public's face, but this whole thing is just out of control. Does the NFL have any idea how ridiculous this whole thing is making them look? Somebody may or may not have tampered with air pressure in footballs. Really? This is what the NFL wants it's fans to be occupied with? There should be all sorts of stories about the upcoming season and training camps and who's healthy or not but NOOOO, we get deflated balls, day and night, 24/7. I've completely lost interest in Roger and his clown show. Where's Pete when he's really needed? The image of the NFL is taking a beating that is going to leave a scar that will not go away. -- Al

There really should be a way to "double like" a post..........:wink2:

Eight months later, we're still talking about this.

It's monumentally ridiculous.

Brad,
He was allowed to because it's in the CBA that he can act as the arbitrator in appeal cases.

That's the NFLPA's fault for allowing that to be written into the CBA; frankly, I don't see how a federal court will overturn the suspension. The case was moved to New York and the judge has already told both parties to knock it off with the rhetoric and come together and reach some sort of agreement.

Not going to happen because any reduction in the suspension will come with Brady admitting he did something and he's not going to do that.

I see the federal court in this one ruling in favor of the NFL, Goodell was perfectly within his rights to rule on the appeal.

Doesn't make it fair, but it is what it is.

My prediction for the Cowboys is that they'll finish 6-10. Football is a team game, and D Murray was a consummate pro. I'd like to say that there's no "I" in Bryant, but I suspect that his new contract will deliver fans even more of a loose-cannon than what we've seen in the past. The defense may be worse, as there's been so much misguided focus on the "return" of Shawn Lee, a player who'll apparently never have the ruggedness required to play MLB. Were it not for the presence of Dan Bailey, I'd have put them at 4-12.

Moe...

that's brutal...4-12...

sounds like I won't enjoy this season too much...

if you really think the presence of Sean Lee is personally gonna cost them 8 games this year...
he should at least get credit for having his name spelled correctly...

it's Sean Lee...lol...not Shawn Lee...
give the man is dues...

Sean Lee...

any one man that can destroy a team that bad should get his name spelled correctly...^&grin

That moron Sheldon Richardson may never play football again. A few weeks ago he led cops on a high speed pursuit, hitting speeds of around 140. When he finally gave up, the cops smelled marihuana in his car and one of the passengers included a 12 year old. All this on the heels of a four game suspension. No, you can't make this up.

I read that...it just amazes me...all your career goals are realized...and you just keep destroying your dreams...what a dolt...

I can't see this at all; they were a lousy call that went against them away from going to the NFC Championship game last year and IMO, had they made it, they would have beaten the Seachickens, so how can they go from that to 4-12?

Luckily, no one was injured during all of this.

It continues to amaze me how these pro athletes flush their careers down the toilet time after time, you'd think they'd learn from past examples as to how NOT to behave and walk the strait and narrow.

Their window is so small in which to make money, take advantage of that with your God given talents, don't piss it away........................

Hey, now, my prediction was 6-10. I mentioned that Bailey will probably keep them from going 4-12. Again, I think that they are really going to miss Murray at running back. In his absence, Romo will have to throw more. Speaking of Romo...the guy's got one foot in an orthopedic surgery theater, and the other on a banana peel. Jeez, is 6-10 too optimistic? On the bright-side, perhaps there will be a prison break and JJ can recruit a whole new defense!;)

Hi Mike,

Lee's a great athlete. However, I simply don't see him as being physically capable of surviving a season at middle linebacker. They could move him to the weak-side, but wouldn't that make it harder to justify his salary? Should it come to pass that he's still on the active roster at the end of the season, I'll make a concerted effort to spell his name correctly!:wink2:

I may be getting soft...

but I believe everybody deserves a second chance...

with the exception of the most absolute heinous of crimes...something like Aaron Hernandez...

but I think these "life changing financial windfall contracts" can change you life...so they change the man...

and a lot of these guys don't understand you don't get to keep these if you can't keep your nose clean...

this one bugs me...

resisting arrest and multiple traffic violations for an incident on July 14...

just two weeks after his NFL-issued drug suspension for marijuana use...

two weeks???

you kind of feel he's really squandering his second chance...

Sheldon Richardson is Exhibit A as to why I do not believe in second chances.
