NFL 2015 Season (1 Viewer)

Mike,

This seems to happen in a lot of sports.

Brad

Brad...

yeppers...

NYG a few years ago...

just gotta make the playoffs in the NFL...
and then get on a hot streak...

the NFL format is unlike baseball and basketball...

their 7 game format usually weeds out the "we got on a lucky streak" factor...

I'll give you a rule that needs addressing in the NFL...

the offsides...whistle blown..."free play"...rule...

I always understood the rules to be...
when the whistle is blown...
the play is automatically over right then and right there...
no exceptions...
play over...
no matter what happens after the whistle is blown...
play over...
and forward progress is stopped right there...

you see this a lot on fumbles at the end of a play...
and it's not a fumble...
because the whistle blew signalling the end of forward progress...
and the end of the play...

what happens now...

and smart seasoned QB's take full advantage of this rule...

when the defense jumps offsides...
and the whistle is blown...

the whistle is blown...
that's it...
play over...
and while the defense is trained from birth...
to stop all their efforts when the whistle blows...
so they won't get a personal foul...
a lot of times the offense doesn't stop...

a smart QB...
sees this as a free play...

and many times I have seen the defense quit attacking...
and the offense hit a long pass...

they need to take a stance...
either stop the play...
or let the defense know the play is live...

I agree with you on every point. First of all, four the 4th time this season, the Giants lost a game in the last minute because of Coughlin's abysmal clock management. As you said, run the ball three times at the 5 yard line, if you don't score a touchdown, there is around 50 seconds left when you kick the go ahead field goal.

Hi Louis, I feel your pain, but try losing 7 games in the last drive of a game
:mad::mad::mad: as my Ravens have now figured out how to lose in every conceivable way, whether they have the ball on the last drive or the Raven defense is on the field for the last drive they have lost unbelievable 7 games!!!! with 7 games left still to play!! after this season is over someone will write a book on how the 2015 Ravens were the most unlucky, snake bit, "ball bounced the other way team" or just plain not very good at finishing a game, but on the bright side I can kind of follow along with the NFL season stress free as my team is fighting for draft picks and no need to worry if they won/lost, playoff seeds etc...Sammy

I'm sorry about your Ravens, Sammy. I think poor clock management, poor officiating, and stupid rules are the story of the NFL this season. All the new B.S. complicated rules need to go. The officials can barely keep track of simple stuff as it is, and end up calling penalties on every second play, ruining the continuity of the game.

Its a catch if you have possession an two feet down in bounds. Forget about keeping possession for a football move, or once you land on the ground. If you have possession, with two feet on the ground and the ball is knocked loose, its a fumble, not an incomplete pass.

No more neutral zone infractions. If a defender enters the neutral zone without making contact and the offensive line jumps, its on the offense. Period. Like it always was.

And lets eliminate ticky-tack defensive holding, illegal contact and offensive and defensive pass interference calls. If it doesn't actually prevent the receiver or defensive back from making a play on the ball, it shouldn't be a penalty. Let the players on offense and defense fight for the ball, and reward the one who actually makes the play, not the one who is better at whining at the officials.

And finally, can we please get rid of the Brady (below the knees) Rule and head contact rule on roughing the passer? I thought NFL football was a contact sport, not two-hand touch.

I am sure there is some NFL reason for it but for the life of me I can't figure out the discrepancy between offensive and defensive pass interference punishments? if it is defensive it is placed at the spot of the foul with an automatic first down. if it is offensive pass interference, the offense is penalized ten yards and must replay the down? How is that fair?

it's really not fair in my opinion either...

I believe in college it's just a 15 yard infraction...

some of these deep pass interference call penalties are staggering...

but there are 2 ways to view it...

if the defender knows he is beat for a TD...just tackle the guy...which seems unfair to the offense...so why shouldn't they get a spot penalty...

conversely...a slight bump on an overthrown ball can cost the defender 50-60 yards...

The league was fine up until 2004; prior to that, you could grab, hold, mug a guy until the ball was in the air. Once the ball was in the air, hands off.

Then the Colts whined to the league about how unfair that was, so the rules were changed and have gotten worse year after year to the point where you cannot breathe on a player or else you get flagged.

As far as defensive backs; why they aren't taught to look back for the ball is beyond me; 99% of the penalties come from a defensive back banging into a receiver as he's about go for the ball.

And as far as the playoffs; sorry, 9-7 teams that win the division should not be hosting playoff games to 12-4 teams.

As in ever; and cut the crap about "You should be rewarded for winning the division"...................you are rewarded, you make the playoffs.

Once the season ends, playoff teams should be reseeded according to best record and nevermind who wins a division.................................

Because this is so often a subjective judgment call I prefer the college rule. Give them 15 and a first down. There is also no way to know whether the receiver would actually catch a ball if there was no interference. This is one of those game deciding decision that refs can call or not late in a game. Better to limit their discretion to decide a game as much as possible. btw: I saw Bradford with the Eagles has a separated shoulder and concussion. That guy has been hurt every season since college. It's amazing to me that some guys are snake bit by injuries and others like Brady can play for years without a major injury.

to avoid the penalty altogether...

it almost seems like all the defender has to do...

is to run close enough so your feet tangle and the receiver falls down...

they never call tangled feet...

The NFL continued with Horrible Uniform Thursday, with the Jags looking like they had steeped into a pile of you-know-what and the Titans in a cloud of blue. At least, it wasn't as jarring as the green and red from the week before.

Brad...

I watched the game...

the Jag's were poo-poo brown...

the Titan's looked okay...

I believe someone referred to it as the uniform battle of the condiments — spicy mustard vs. Miracle Whip.

The Ravens finally won a game today at the last minute with a field goal; then the news comes out that Flacco is done for the year, tore his ACL.

And that's a one year recovery time, so we'll see him around week 11.

Next year.

And after starting out 4-1 with Bowles as their coach, the new sheriff in town who's a real coach, then are now 1-4 in their last 5, with the lone win coming vs the powerhouse Jaguars.

And Revis Island got his bell rung and left the game with a concussion, he also got torched on a long TD pass.

Thanks for helping us win that Super Bowl Revis, enjoy January and February off as you spend that dumptruck full of money Woody paid you to come there.

Just how snake-bitten are the Ravens? They lost on a 53 yd FG on an untimed down after a Raven's defender tackled the Jacksonville Qb by the facemask with no time left. The 15 yd penalty put Jax in FG range for the win. Ravens have now lost 7 games by a total of 33 points. Even their 2 wins were by 3 points each. No use doing things the easy way.:rolleyes2: -- Al
As George notes, the Raven's season of disaster continues. The NFL gods giveth and then taketh away. Ravens win the game on a FG as time runs out but lose Flacco for the season and then some. All 3 wins by 3 points, all 3 wins by FG's, 2 with no time remaining and 1 in OT. And 7 losses by a total of 32 points (I miscounted in the above post:redface2:). Not a season for the fan with heart problems. Jeesh. -- Al

is anybody watching Green Bay/Minnesota...

there is a male fan screaming like a little teenage girl on every play that is driving me crazy!!!

I'm about ready to watch it on mute...

Here I am rooting for the Ravens to lose to pick up a higher draft and of course they pull out a win!!! but no more worrying about that as Flacco/Forsett added to the M*A*S*H* unit of a football team now with 19 players on I.R.{eek3}{eek3} so thinking 3-13 to finish should get us top 3 pick, with no QB, RB, no real starting receivers, two thirds of the O-line are back ups safe bet to say the worst year in the history of the Ravens will finally in the name of God be over in 6 painfully long weeks...Sammy

It is rather remarkable that a team so badly beat up continues to play close game after close game. It speaks well of the reserves and the coaching. -- Al

That was monumentally annoying, I did put it on mute, couldn't stand it anymore....................

for real!

you heard him too?

......

he was a Green Bay fan and he screamed like a girl on almost every play...

I swear...

if I had been sitting close to him...

I would have had to say something...

George...

7 1/2...will they cover without Edelman?

good luck...

The Vikes are a year away...and today proved it. They couldn't take the pressure of a big game and self-destructed.
