NHL Playoffs (1 Viewer)

Congrats Al! This is the first Washington sports championship since the Senators (excluding Georgetown), right?

Brad
Thanks Brad, but I can hardly revel in it as I'm not a real hockey fan. It is a great win for the city though. I would be a poor fan if I didn't mention the Redskins 5 NFL Championships (1937, 42, 82, 87, and 91), and the Washington Wizards NBA Title in 1978. This is the first DC win since the 92 SB though. It's been a while.:wink2: -- Al

{eek3} How could I forget the Skins. Dumb of me. I used to follow the Bullets when I lived down in DC but by then I had left for law school.

Really happy for Ovechkin and the rest of the Capitals, that 10,000 pound gorilla is finally off of his back, he's a first ballot HOF lock now, no holes in his resume.

His reaction when he was handed the cup is a big reason why I love hockey, nothing else like it in all of sports when it comes to Lord Stanley's cup.

He's by far my favorite non Bruin hockey player.

The Capitals are a great story; down 0-2 to Columbus, they roared back and won that series, then finally got over the LET'S GO PENS!! hump and they finished the job by beating the guy who tortured them for years as a Penguin.

I also love how these guys beat the tar out of each other and then shake hands at the end, its' pretty cool.

I was done in by TJ Oshie talking about his dad, Tim, who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease years ago:

"My dad — oh boy. He doesn't, uh — he doesn't remember a lot of stuff these days," Oshie said, fumbling for the right words. "He remembers enough."

And he paused to wipe his eyes.

"But I tell you what, he's here tonight. I don't know where he's at," Oshie added, searching the crowd around him. "But this one will stick with him forever. You can guarantee that."

The best quote on Ovechkins' Cup celebrations:

"The way he is partying, Ovechkin must be Russian for Gronkowski........."

Don't think he's been seen without a bottle of beer in one hand and a trophy cup full of champagne in the other since the win. It's been a non-stop party in DC and the parade today topped it all off. Maybe things will quiet down now.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Hockey is not quite over. The Caulder Cup series is going seven. Texas vs Toronto. A culture clash. Game seven is on NHL Network on Thursday night. A lot of future NHL players down in the AHL.
