C'mon, take them to see a real team: take them to THE Garden to see the Rangers. Since the vote by Nassau County voters defeated the Islanders effort to get public financing for a new Coliseum, they are likely to move. You don't want him to root for a team that may not be around in the near future.

I let him chose his own teams. He already picked the two most "real" teams in the area, the Giants (4 Superbowls, 8 Championships (3rd most all time), 19 Championship Games (most all time), 48 playoff games (most all time)) and the Yankees (27 Championships, 40 Pennants - far and away the most all time), and has already been to two parades in the Canyon of Heroes (Yankees 2009, Giants 2011-2012). If he wants to pick a team that is not doing so well right now, he will build some character and learn a little humility. In any event, as I recall, the Islanders were one of the best teams all time from 1980 through 1983, winning four straight Stanley Cups, and losing in the finals the fifth year playing at Nassau Coliseum, so they could be great again someday.

They could but they've been floundering for years and they may have to leave the Island because of the Coliseum. If their owner (Wang) can't get financing, they may move out of state, although I've heard that a likely home may be Brooklyn in the Nets new home. I don't know if the Rangers or Devils have the right to object to that move.

You had to wind him up didn't you Brad...............thanks a lot........:rolleyes2:

Reality can be a warped process. If he wants to try suffering, let him be a Nets fan.

I'm not a hockey fan, but my 6 year old son Alec is taking skating lessons and wants to play hockey, so, as I live about a 15 minute drive from Nassau Coliseum, I took him and my 4 year old daughter Ashley to the last Islander home game against the Winnepeg Jets last Thursday. My son, daughter and I had a great time, the Islanders won 5-4 on a goal scored with less than a minute left in regulation, so I ended up buying Alec and Ashley each Jerseys, my son got #91 (John Taveres) and my daughter got #26 (Matt Moulson). It was actually pretty entertaining, and now I've been to a game from all of the major professional sport leagues in the United States (NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL).

I don't think there is any better sport to see live than hockey. Constant action, speed, fights. It has it all. I mostly go to AHL games - the Hershey Bears - and those are a ton of fun and kid friendly.

How about those Kings taking it to Vancouver! They not only won but outplayed the top team in the NHL on their home ice. A historic collapse for the Pens. Up 3-0 and get beat at home. Caps and Bruins tonight. The Caps are using their backup goalies from the Hershey Bears against the defending champs.

Three great games last night, loved the Kings beating the Canucks, epic gag by the Penguins; that series is going to be a war...............

Watch out for the Caps. They have nothing to lose.

It's funny how usually they end up in the top two or so in total points in the conference every year and then gag in the playoffs; watch this be the year they finish 8th and make a run to the cup finals................offensively they scare me, but their defense stinks on ice, not to mention they've got their third string goalie starting for them..........that said, a hot goalie can steal a series, so we'll see.

If the Bruins play their game and Thomas is on, they should win the series.......

As anticipated and expected Rangers successfully defended the home ice. Won't be an easy series as the Senators beat the Rangers three out of four this year.

3 of 4 games last night went into OT. The Caps goalie held his own but they couldn't come up with any goals. All the playoff games are being televised in HD on NHL Network, CNBC or NBC sports.

Biggest surprise so far is the Kings up 2-0 on the best team in hockey. Second would be the play of the Caps backup goalie Holtby holding Boston to 2 total goals in two OT games. Chippiest game goes to Ottawa and NYR last night. A real slugfest.

Didn't see the match last night but from the accounts I read it seems like it was a hockey game masquerading as a UFC match.

Wings are now down 2 games to 1:( Wings dominated but loss the game.

Based on some of the results we're seeing, home ice/field ain't what it used to be {eek3}

Naturally; some ham and egger third string back up is standing on his head looking like Ken Dryden vs the Bruins in the 71 semi finals.

So typical.................and the Washington defensemen, who as a group stink on ice, are blocking just about every shot with Dryden/Parent/Fuhr stopping everything else.

Kings up 3-0! A strange aspect of the NHL playoffs is that weaker teams have a great chance if they get outstanding play from their goalie. It's like having a Cy Young pitcher start every game in the World Series. Vancouver had 40+ shots on goal and the Kings had 20 last night. But the Kings win.
